I don't have much of a problem with the Donald Trump Ego Tower (or whatever they call them now, the guy's a modern Alexander the Great), but the other two are certainly repellant.

I'm from Toronto and so I present to you the OCAD (Ontario College of Arts and Design)'s Sharp Pavillion. You'd think a design school would be able to come up with something better.

I think these images might be bigger than the allowed sizes, so I'll just link to them.

EDIT: Whoa, another Torontonian? We posted the OCAD building at around the same time haha..

If you ask me the worst buildings are:
Communist Apartment Blocks
The 70's Stores in small towns across rural Canada that were counstructed on the sites of rather nice pre-war buildings.
UN Secretariat Building, NY
Box Stores, especially big blue boxy Wally-Mart14.gif, with its partner in crime, Mickey D's(If you havn't figured it out yet, Wal-Mart and McDonalds21.gif
Eaton's stores, well, not anymore
Gas Stations
Percy Baxter Middle School, in Whitecourt (I don't expect you to know where it is, it's on the Alaskan Highway)
West Edmonton Mall
University of Alberta Hospital
The UN Secretariat Building (Am I spelling that right?)

And the ugliest Structures they have ever built are:
The LA Freeway System
Confederation Bridge, I think (The one from Prince Edwards Island)
32.gifThe Alaskan Highway, atleast through Whitecourt26.gif

The most Beautiful buildings are:

Alberta Legislature Building , Edmonton, Canada
Calgary Tower, Calgary, Canada
Glenora Bed and Breakfast Inn, Edmonton, Canada
Westminster Palace, London England
Empire State Building, New York, US
Chrysler Building, New York, US
Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence, Italy
The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Family, Barcelona, Spain
Schloss Neuschwanstein, Bavarian Alps, Germany
Flatiron Building, NY, US
Fallingwater , Bear Run, US
Habitat, Montreal, Canada
Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Spain
Leaning Tower, and its lesser known church, Pisa, Italy
Brooklyn Bridge, NY, US
Grand Central Station, NY, US
Golden Gate Bridge, San Fransisco, UYS
Communications Network Tower, or CN Tower, Toronto, Canada
Arc de Triomphe, Paris, France
The Statue of Liberty, U-Know-Where
Eiffel Tower, Paris France,
Great Wall of China, China,
The House I Hope to Live In, Whitecourt, Canada
Look for pics on google to get the right idea

Looking at the plan I'm not a fan of the OCAD building. It wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't made that top section into some kind of giant rectangular dice. If it were a BAT I would go back and select a different texture 2.gif

Wow, Now that's what I call ugly: volume 6 (if anyone got that joke).

That building has won the ugly award.

Now, I have to agree. The checkerboard building on stilts is... just plain ugly, yes.

However, I do commend it for it's originality. So little architecture exhibits much of that because people seem to be outright terrified of novel ideas.

If I was a student at that school(which is a school for the arts) I would leave straight away, they could have at least come up with a better design.

That's just dumb. Why build a building on silts anyways? Sure, it looks colorful and out of place, and I guess that's what they want, but why silts?

From what someone told me about this building is that the Checkerboard DEsign was to represent Graphing Paper(or a Crossword Puzzle) an the Stilts were supposed to be Pencils. To represent the simple tools of Design. But then again they could've just been shoveling something stinky in my direction(by the truckload).

Communications Network Tower, or CN Tower, Toronto, Canada

I agree, that building is very nice.

But it's not 'Communications Network Tower', it's Canadian National Tower. 22.gif

no need to elaborate, it looks like crap, you never put a building like that next to an avenue filled with BRICK buildings.

You just don't put anything like that in ANY city!  Its a big box.  And just for saying, everyone is so consious about terrorists right now, and that thing woudn't be that safe.  Blow up a couple of those Supports and there she topples!

That's even worse! Why not just use regular writing paper with the blue lines all around and then the red line on the side. It would look just a little better.

A couple of buildings in Minneapolis which I have always thought are horribly ugly:
md.jpg
The Metrodome...ugh.

mt.jpg
The McKnight Tower Apartments.

However, neither of these even compare to the giant checkerboard in the sky. 47.gif

dave, I agree those are very ugly. 19.gif

Although I persionally think the building on stilts is a wonderful building, amazing architecture, and something unique instead of the usual boring skyscraper. I guess that just proves that ugly is in the eye of the beholder! 18.gif

Normally I'm a huge fan of postmodern architecture. I find it really fascinating, and it makes a statement. But for some reason the Expereience Music Project (EMP) in Seattle never really settled with me. Perhaps it's the horrible riot of colors, or the fact that it's initials can also mean Electro-magnetic Pulse. I've heard it's SUPPOSED to resemble a broken guitar, but to me it looks more like somebody got massively ill off the top of the space needle...
Seattle Splatter
But I have to agree with what so many other have been saying. Wal-Mart and McMansions are far and away the ugliest buildings in the world, and the reason I refuse to live in suburbia.
*Yawn*
Seriously, there is nothing in the world more heinously ugly than an absolute lack of imagination.
Moreover, they build the houses in about a week with poorly trained laborers, so it doesn't take them long for the wiring / plumbing to fail or the siding to rot. Thereby making them even uglier. The things people will actually pay money for...

Cheers, Talen

Federation Square in Melbourne has to be one of the worst. Just for the fact that it replaced a cactus building, with more cactus.

It also detracts from what are magnificent buildings one the opposite corners. Flinders Street Station, St Pauls Cathedral and Young & Jacksons.

You are completely correct, federation square looks terrible. Theres no style and its all basically concrete.14.gif But I think the worst is the hosuing commision flats in urban Sydney.14.gif

Now I also like Federation Square! At first I didn't, but it has grown on me. Its just such a wonderful space, its a great community atmosphere, with life and always something happening there! The interior is simply amazing as well.

I agree with you doodleman266, the Sydney and Melbourne Commision Flats are one of the ugliest ever built. And this is a good photo of them!

I used to live in that exact type of commission flat. Brings back the memories. Still I'm not a fan of the Federation Square. The RMIT building on Swanston Street is more appealing.
