Great area views guys.

This is my custom region that I made (first thing I did when I opened the game. I'm a right little terraformer lol)

Here's mine:

Spent about six hours making this map. First thing right after I got the game. Including 2 unsuccessful attempts (the water wouldn't behave)

Building up slowly but surely.

I really... really need a "all rice rise ban" policy... In places that have plenty of land, such as my place - it's very very rare to see even mid rises residential around but only a rare few.

I just want to build a city where everyone have their own little house and little shop... Not happening for now.

Pop = 22k, drop to 18k for no reason... I guess it's because of the new ugly bridge at the south.

Great work everyone!

A population of just over 70 000. Starting to get some bad traffic problems up in the North.

I built the second industry town on the right just so I could watch Cims use the highway.  :P

Some major traffic bottlenecks in this one. I need to improve my interchanges too.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

My "ugly" little first city is getting a little better looking:

    CS_0003.png

After a lot of futzing around and small-scale experimentation, I'm starting to get comfortable with everything.  The unconnected "directional" trumpet in the northwest is for my proposed new industrial complex; purpose being to relocate some of the existing industrial from the core city.  Didn't take very long to build, either - maybe a half hour tops even though it felt like about 5 minutes.  My biggest problem is building the gores; the tapers and lane continuity just aren't right...   :meh:   Well, they're better than what vanilla SC4 offered us at least.

Still seems to be an awfully large (area-wise) city for only 5,000 inhabitants.

Correlation doesn't imply causation, but it does waggle its eyebrows suggestively and gesture furtively while mouthing 'look over there'. - xkcd.com

    The city of New Cleveland

Wow, I normally really hate grids, but you've made it work really well. Looks realistic, and somehow pleasing to the eye.

I would call it 'grids done right', much respect.

It's like looking out of a plane window over the Netherlands coastline. You nailed the northern European city perfectly. That's a perfect example of what this Finnish-Swedish game was designed to do.

Much appreciated. I am OCD when it comes to symmetry so I almost always design with a grids. Splines are my nemesis.

City has expanded a bit. I added more suburbs to the north, hugging the mountain.

On a slightly related, but possibly OT note, I geeked out and made a subway map for my city. Real stations, real lines and everything.

Oh! What program did you use to make the line map? I love this kind of effort and immersion!

    The city of New Cleveland

    .

    .

    .

Wow, many of the aerial views in this thread are beautiful and convincing, but the boulevard system in the grand manner of Baron Haussmann, Daniel Burnham, and Pierre Charles L'Enfant that you showed here was definitely the clincher for me to finally buy the game.

Not yet a city, but here is my first region !

This is based on Ajaccio, Corsica. I've chosen the setting because there's everything to make a diverse city: mountains, flatlands, seaside, rivers, forests and agricultural fields. And thanks to the magic of video games, we can even find oil there!

If you want to test it, I've just uploaded it on Steam:
