Nightfall.

You have to stay at a certain distance in order not to trigger that super ugly LOD of that big CO building.

Dangit! There it happened:

Although, that's still the better looking side.

Here some new snapshots of Downtown Fairview:

These three pictures might well be the most stunning pics I saw of Cities Skylines... the second one is not "almost" real, it IS real ! You should submit it in the best picture competition.

Wow, thanks man!
I'm still working on some details (not that it'll ever be finished), but I'll post a AD update soon. Your assets are prime examples of how beautiful this game can look at night, so hopefully modders that haven't done so yet will follow your lead and update their skyscrapers for AD soon, because at the moment downtown is pretty much a black hole at night :(

I wish everyone took the time... but it's work, and if you built without planning for a night update it's even worse.

Oh and some builders updated their assets fast... but only "fast". They just thought "I'll add some lights because if I don't, people will unsubscribe"... and the results are terrible.

Yeah, some Workshop assets have been 'updated' for AD quite poorly, but to be honest, even though it made me unsubscribe from a number of buildings, I still respect that choice. I mean, in the end modders are just hobbyists who voluntarily choose to sacrifice their free time for the good of the community, so instead of complaining I'm still grateful for their effort and dedication. And it's very simple: if I don't like the end-result, I simply unsubscribe, the same as I have unsubscribed from a number of assets with terrible LOD's  or low-res texture quality.
Besides that, having poorly updated assets make the high-quality content in the Workshop stand out all the more - I have 30-ish modders in the Workshop that I follow because of their consistently high quality and attention to detail, and pretty much all custom content I use comes from them. Other modders can be added to that list, if they can convince me that their content is good enough - if not, no big deal: I won't subscribe, but I won't complain either.

Stunning !

Still some dark buildings, but things look pretty nice :)

Yeah, it's slowly getting there. It helped that I had to find replacement buildings for all of Reaper's assets after I unsubbed them all ;)
It's a pity that buildings are never lit up all at once, as they cycle between not, half and fully lit during the night randomly (or so it seems): it would be awesome if the lights were connected to the time of day - most buildings lit up from dusk until around midnight, then less and less as Cims go to sleep (or should do so) for a couple of hours, and then until dawn an increase of lights again as they and the city start to wake up wake again.

City I'm currently working on, looking towards it's newly formed Central Business District, a regeneration project that has seen a rapid clearance of old apartments and a rapid construction of swanky glass towers.

2015-10-17_00004.thumb.jpg.9ac4a2de2b0ef

Also, does anyone know how I can fix some of these damn LOD issues when viewing buildings from a distance?

2015-10-17_00002.thumb.jpg.c83c48c4b8f2b

It's understandable for it to switch to a low level model at a distance but I'd prefer it when that distance would make it unnoticeable. Ruins any bayside shots I'd like to do. Some of those buildings I swear were also fine for it. Quite annoying TBH.

This happens when people make buildings and don't take the time to make a lod... sadly many nice looking assets are ruined by this (and it's even more noticable at night).

I don't suppose there is an easy way to fix it and add After Dark lighting in the asset editor is there? I would prefer it if there was more quality control on the workshop. Help reduce the number of content on there that don't even have preview images.

No easy way for that, sadly.

There is still the possibility to extract the geometry, and the textures, create a working lod from it, create the lod textures, recreate the building...  :ducky:

*Sighs* This would look so much better if they weren't dark assets. Shame because that Flatiron building isn't always the easiest thing to fit in. The author of that I think does eventually intend to AD it but hasn't a time frame for it.

Looking towards the CBD. I'd imagine it to look like the equivalent of Canary Wharf to my city.

Trying for a mix of Macau, Singapore (the multicolored HDB flats), Taipei, Hong Kong, and Manila with a southern French-style neighborhood in the foreground.

Probably not the best view and size but I tried making something. One of three cities in the Greater Deville Metropolitan Area. I am starting to wonder if it would look better using 1:15 scale landmarks instead of the 1:1 scale. It's nice having an iconic city landscape but some of these buildings' heights tend to make them stick out a bit.

New Andalus's skyline! Including a new apartment building, and the new High Interest tower, displacing the Transport Tower as the tallest building in the city!

Spoiler

Snape kills Dumbledore. Sorry, I do nto know how to get rid of this accidental spoiler tag.

This image nicely captures the view from the cities high land value residential area. The viaduct that runs over the main road is also visible

One of the CBD/Downtown areas. Next to the interchange looking towards the Light District in Dundeville, part of the Deville Metropolitan Area. The rail station to the left has it's platforms underground to save on space.

Hello everyone! Really nice submissions here.

I have not been on this forum for a while, back when I was playing SC4. I was not impressed by SC2013 but C:S brought me back to city building.

I thought I'd share the skyline of downtown Newport (WIP).
