That's a sick shot! o.O  Thanks for the tip. Looks like I have to add no pillars mod to my tools.

I just had a fight with my first city and lost. The last thing I tried to do in there was make a bypass ramp for a conga line and found myself fighting with pillars stopping my plan.

Other stuff I would recommend is Fine Road Heights (3 meters per step instead of 12m).

Also of course Terraforming tools, flat the lands before construction makes thing less frustrating when on uneaven terrain where it easy to end up with non-logical slopes.

Another one is Road Assistant, it display a grid in-game so you can use it as guide, though currently there's no snapping function.

OO, I hadn't heard of road assistant. That'll be handy, thanks for the heads-up!

It still a very "crude" mod though, with bugs around.

Sometime I think it just more convenient to grab a white board marker pen and draw reference points on the screen yourself~ (I really do that  :D )

Meanwhile state and federal highway engineers agreed that technology (No Pillar and Fine Road Heights Mod) has caught up to remove original engineering flaws in the Interstate 7/Interstate 705 interchange when it was originally constructed.  They got a little OCD in the final product though...

Interstate 7 and Interstate 705 Interchange Upgrade Project

  • Install new Collector/Distributor lanes on Interstate 705 to improve traffic weave for traffic coming from CBD, Lakedale local exit SPUIs, and Interstate commerce.
  • Lower Interstate 705 viaduct height by at least 3 meters.
  • Reconstruct southbound Interstate 705 for streamlined appearance.
  • Reconstruct all flyover ramps to accommodate southbound I-705 realignment work.
  • Eliminate Interstate 7 median to construct new I-7 Collector/Distributor lanes.
  • Install new sound barriers on Interstate 7 through Downtown Lakedale.
  • Four new CBD on/off-ramps.
  • New east-west 4-lane avenue constructed by the City of Lakedale
  • Elimination of roundabout for Broadway (east-west 6-lane avenue)
  • Realign State Ave (north-south 6-lane avenue, pre-705 arterial)

Lakedale suffered a 1-1/2 year long reconstruction effort that clogged traffic up, and had an estimated budget of $100,000, but ended up going over budget by at least towards $200,000.  But you all know how government bureaucracy works for you.

Interstate 7 and Interstate 705 before reconstruction commences.

Interstate 7 and Interstate 705 and surrounding interchanges linked together by Collector/Distributor lanes post-reconstruction.  Westbound Interstate 7 C/D lanes were not installed due to heavy neighborhood opposition from the suburbia population and lack of traffic to Northbound Interstate 705 from the east.  The government doesn't care about if your GPS is updated to the latest changes either by the clear radical changes to the interchange.

VaSVOCT.jpg

Interstate 705 looking north away from Downtown, state traffic engineers didn't really care about the close proximity of their construction efforts on nearby residential towers, but they didn't use eminent domain.

Lower level flyover ramps looking west.

n4rBSPe.jpg

Looking east from the eastbound Interstate 7 C/D lane as some oil tankers utilize the freeway, gazing upon nearly perfect flyover ramps makes any traffic engineer grin with pride.

Also the view of the Lakedale skyline isn't too bad from the upper level flyovers...  :D

Created this little industrial loop to ensure that my cargo goes through quickly. That didn't work out so well. :P But...

Now I get some decent traffic on The Beast! I've made a few modifications thanks to some keen reddit observers, who noticed that my interchange was in fact not a full access 5-way.

A bonus shot after casually playing with the tsunami mod.

Lakedale also has issues with freight truck traffic coming in and out of the rail terminal.  I didn't show what I did there yet, but I did a similar attempt that likewise failed.  Lakedale's traffic engineers are still analyzing traffic patterns for solutions.

Amesbury is in the process of creating a half-circular turnpike to help with crosstown traffic congestion. So far it's having the intended effect. Because the areas are suburban and space is at a premium (and it's all heavily built up) I just built two little three-way interchanges really close to one another.

Could you please make a download of that interchange? It's the most beautiful I've seen so far!

Hm, kingofsimcity's screenshots make me want to download No Pillars and Finer Road Heights, but the Workshop comments of these mods are filled with bug reports. I already lost a savegame after using Traffic++  so I guess I'll pass for my current city and stick to ugly interchanges :) Nice work tho!

I have finer road heights too and no bugs show up whatsoever. Even with my laptop!

IIRC Traffic++ adds some new components to the game and that can cause some issues. You should have no problems with No Pillars and Finer Road Heights though, as they're small tweaks to existing in-game tools and don't really change many of the mechanics like Traffic++ does. :)

I could try to make a replica in the asset editor, but there is no guarantee that it'll be nearly as nice! :P

Trying to replicate I80 - I110 Interchange near LA downtown

I think you mean Interstate 10 and the 110 .... i-80 goes through San Francisco.. Although your interchanges are extremely good and well thought out...  I'm having trouble getting the hang of it (interchange making) , and I don't have a lot of patience... but I'm trying...

Here's a stack with frontage roads I built; it replaced an older overpass when I upgraded the outer loop to a freeway. One of the connectors splits to an elevated HOV lane.

This beauty is the highway entrance to my newest city. It started out as a simple trumpet off-ramp but then I added an overpass to allow for industrial traffic to bypass the roundabout that connects to residential areas. And when a new district popped up on the other side of the highway, I added a few more shortcuts.

So I never build a city big enough that I really needed an extented highway system. However now I did because I wanted to know how to handle a bigger city and the traffic issues. Well big traffic means big solutions I guess. So this the first time I really tried to play around with in game intersections and downloaded intersections as well.

I must say It looks like a total mess.

I tried to build and elevated ringroad for my downtwon wich at one point happens to run together with an allready existing highway that allready sees a lot of traffic. Keeping them both grade seperated to have less traffic jams was needed. However asteticly it look like $%&^! xD I'll have a lot of work to make this look acceptable. Can anyone give me some tips. I really want to keep the double highways on one part of the city.

I think it looks fine. That's really interesting how you layered everything. If you use the no pillars on some stretches of those six lane ramps, you could probably find a way to fit it into the stack interchange you have--so that the upper deck doesn't take up more right of way in that area.

Wow. Those darkened roads definitely look good. I might install the mod! I really like your interchanges too, very clean and professional!  :golly:

They look great, but why have you made that loop above the water in the first pic?

It is to ensure a smooth slope. The angle from which the photo is taken, doesn't show it, but the bridge (left) is much higher than the road (right) and it is a small tribute to the Rainbow Bridge in Tokyo =D

<snip>

I like the white paved areas between the roads in your photo. Is that effect from any sidewalk texture replacer mod? Too bad I haven't heard of any standalone version. The American Roads mod has a sidewalk texture replacer, but it looks from your photo like you didn't use the American Roads mod.

I'm using American Roads, but do not pertains to them. It corresponds to "Ultimate Area Fillers"
