  1. Ooh, very interesting idea to start a city around an airport!
  2. This beauty is the highway entrance to my newest city. It started out as a simple trumpet off-ramp but then I added an overpass to allow for industrial traffic to bypass the roundabout that connects to residential areas. And when a new district popped up on the other side of the highway, I added a few more shortcuts.
  3. Thanks! A good thing about having your industry by the water is that most freight traffic can easily come and go through the cargo harbor. I guess that's why they build that way in real cities. Since I made a point in my last entry about how I have focused a little bit more on public transport this time around, I thought I could write an entry about Árheimar's bus system. It's not as special as I might have made it sound like, but it's made up of five lines currently: 1 Göta Park - Scandianova - East Árheimar 2 Göta Park - Árheimar Industrial Park - Westbrook - Westbrook Heights 3 Göta Park - Árheimar Industrial Park - West Árheimar 4 Göta Park - East Árheimar - Fólkheimar 5 Fólkheimar - Golgata - West Árheimar - Westbrook Heights Bus line 1 connects the residential districts of East Árheimar and Scandianova to the Göta Park station. It doesn't stop at the bus terminal though, but at the square in front of the train station. Bus line 2 connects several important places in town - Göta Park, the industrial harbor, Westbrook Tower and the cruise ship harbor in Westbrook Heights. Bus line 3 doesn't go to any especially interesting places, but it does connect the West Árheimar residential neighborhood to the industrial park, and like lines 2 and 4 it ends at the Göta Park bus terminal. The buses on line 4 are always full of people, which is understandable since it connects Göta Park and the many apartments downtown to the university and City Hall in Fólkheimar. Bus line 5 is the only one that doesn't go to Göta Park, and acts like a connecting line between some of the outer neighborhoods of Árheimar. At Fólkheimar Square, a popular destination due to the recently opened shopping district Byzantine Mall that is just a stone's throw away, it connects to line 4. It then drives through the very suburban, almost rural, district Golgata to connect to line 3 in West Árheimar before ending its route in Westbrook Heights at the Paradox Plaza. I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
  4. Hello! You might know me from my Città della Regina city journal that I had here earlier. I got a little bored of detailing the development of that city and moved on to some other cities, but I thought it would be fun to have a more general city journal where I can post pictures of whatever I'm working on currently in CSL. I named this CJ Hot Dog Herald after the in-game hot dog company that drives all those funny hot dog vans. Sounds a little like a weird newspaper. The first entry will revolve around my newest city of Árheimar. The name means River Home in Old Norse, and comes from the mythical capital of the Goths. I'm playing on a downloaded map with elevated highways, that's a nice change from the base game maps where they are all on the ground. Here's the view driving into the city. Not that it's really a big city yet, only 12 000 inhabitants, but the residential high rises are built in a way that gives the impression of a dense city. This is the city's only highway intersection as of now. Those high offramps that bypass the roundabout looked quite majestic when the city was just a tiny little town, before the high-rises came about. They were built because there's an industrial harbor if you continue along that way and I thought that this bypass could allow some of the industrial traffic not to drive in the roundabout that leads to residential areas. I know it only works for traffic bound in one direction but it's still a nice feature, in my opinion. My last city, Città della Regina, didn't have much in a way of main avenues - it was mostly two-way roads all over - so in this city I wanted to have one so it was laid down early and starts in the industrial park. While there aren't any skyscrapers around just yet, there is already some kind of a skyline here. And here's the river that the city is named for. I like the harbor feel to the industrial district. I am something of a public transport enthusiast in these types of games so for this city I wanted to focus on making a more realistic transit system. One of the goals here was to have significant end stops for the lines, most bus lines irl don't just end with a loop in the middle of a residential neighborhood. This is the bus terminal at Göta Park train station, which is Àrheimars transport hub. A consequence of how I built the train station along the main avenue was that the tracks are so close to the road, and I really wanted to avoid having a lots of level crossings. This is the solution I came up with for an overpass connecting downtown Árheimar and the suburban district Scandianova. On the other side of the highway is Fólkheimar, home of the city government and Árheimar University. I don't have any knowledge of Old Norse, since that's a dead language, but I turned to Icelandic which is pretty close to get an as accurate name as possible for this district. While Árheimar means River Home, Fólkheimar is meant to be something along the line of "The People's Home". This is Fólkheimar Square, which I intend to turn into a bus hub when the city has grown more in this direction. At the moment it's the end stop for two bus lines, and while most of the people probably get off the bus at the university there's still quite a few people living around here already. Árheimar isn't just an industrial harbor, cruise ships make a stop here too. I noticed that the ships are named after Colossal Order's CEO, Mariina Hallikainen. And that's that. This is what the city of Árheimar looks like from above.
  5. Show us your SKYLINE

Does this qualify as a skyline? This particular city is still pretty small but I somehow managed to place my high density residential so that it feels much more dense than it actually is.
  6. Thanks! I know I said there would probably be lots of updates but there was a slight change of plans and I didn't get to play that much. I have a little update of a few things that have been going on in la Città though. And to make the thread easier to load, I put all the updates in spoiler tags so you only have to load the pictures of the updates you actually want to read. Update 10: Westside, what side? Last time we visited the new landfill called Evergreen Hill some ore industry was on the way. Well, Evergreen Hill is its own district now! Still a small one but a certain mining company called More Ore Corporation has moved in and expanded the existing operations. Other than the industry, there's some residential housing on one side and a small "square" (if you can even call it that) in the middle of Evergreen Hill where More Ore Corp. have their office. The More Ore Corp. finances a bus line connecting Evergreen Hill to the New Regina metro station, simply called the Green Buses by locals since they are well, green. Speaking of offices, Belladonna District has expanded too. And not just offices, there seem to be some big... thing over there too. Well, if it isn't the newly opened Belladonna Stadium! There's enough parking for people taking their car but most stadium visitors take the metro out there. Not that you can see the station in the pictures, but it's there! I promise! West Regina is no longer as west as you can get in Regina anymore. Nope, now there's a new district on the other side of the river called Westside! It has some nice beachfront properties, and for a while there was a tourist attraction called The Giant's House right by the wind turbine. But it was just temporary and the city decided to take it down after a few months. (I accidentally downloaded it from the Workshop, looked like a nice 1x1 house to bring more variations to those small houses but for some reason it was upscaled and put on a 4x4 lot...) While the Giant's House was downscaled, the Westside Bridge was upscaled! Someone in the city government found out that four-lane roads magically make bridges look nicer so they decided to add some extra lanes for the sake of decoration. Nobody uses the outer lanes but whatever, it looks nice! Also, the new bus line connecting Faraway Valley and Westside to the city got a little overloaded so one of the metro lines was extended from Riverside out to Westside since it was so close anyway. That's all we had today. Oh, and Città della Regina has finally passed the 50 000 cims mark! That's something worth celebrating, isn't it? How the city government decides to do that we might see in the next update.
  7. Well, my CJ is here in the forums, Città della Regina. Here's an overview image from my last entry: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93001151/Citt%C3%A0%20della%20Regina/Update%209/2015-04-03_00033.jpg
  8. It's a great city you have here! I have been reading all your entries and not until now did I realise that the city I'm playing in my CJ is on the same map. It's wonderful how different cities you can build from the same start. Looking forward to your transportation entry.
  9. Yeah, it's quite surprising that the city haven't expanded over the river much. I know that was the idea when I built that two-lane highway to the farming and forestry districts but then the city developed so much in the other direction that it has been left untouched. As for where new development is on the way, it's not on the other side of the river (yet) but here's a little sneak peak: And when it comes to the other side of the river, the Outer Regina area by the harbor and the dam is the most likely starting point for that development since there's a train station out there and all. I don't think the people in Faraway Valley would be too happy about new suburbs starting to pop up around their rural farming community.
  10. Ln X: Thanks. I'm on easter break from school the coming week so you can expect some updates, beginning with this one right now: Update 9: More Expansion and Oh No, Where Did the Water Come From?
  11. Ln X: Thanks! iviaarten: Haha, I liked that landfill too (landfills are fun to decorate with) but I liked the green trees better so it had to go. The cemetery makes for a great replacement though, especially since they are the same size. Since I have become something of a Skylines addict here's another little update for you. Not as long as the others because I haven't had the time to play that much just since yesterday. Update 8: Carthage and Il Campo
  12. Thanks! The goal with this city was actually to really try and break old habits of extremely planned grids and go more organic, and it's the most fun I've had with a city builder for a very long time. I'm happy you like it. I have an update again today, lots of things are going on in la Città these days - last time I saved 39 000 cims lived there. I just love the size of Skylines cities, and how they feel so alive. And while I own 6 plots of land in total they are far from filled, I can't even imagine how much more my city could grow. Update 7: More spaghetti, please!
  13. It's nothing special really but I guess I could show you the little spaghetti-thingy that has become of the starting intersection in my city, connecting the oldest town districts to an industrial park. Note that I'm playing with left-hand traffic, so don't be confused by the road directions. And to give you the big picture, here's an overview of the surrounding area. As you can see there is another older intersection down by the river and this new one was built over time to relieve it. There used to be traffic jams all the way from the old intersection all the way up to and over the bridge in the middle of the industrial zone, and now everything is running almost too smoothly.
  14. Oh, that's a very neat idea. Great (and unexpected) use of the hydro power plant! That dam must be ridiculously cost ineffective though.
  15. 89James89: Thanks! I wish I could live in one of those cute tiny houses myself. SimWarrior: I don't really know what qualifies as a CBD, but thanks. I have a new update from la Città, hope you enjoy it. Update 6: New Regina, home of the Landfill Roundabout
