Very nice, though I would use the national road of Network Extensions for trumpet interchanges:

Wow. That is a great idea. It looks really good. I'm going to have to experiment with this and try to make a nice trumpet interchange myself.

Not sure if this is even going to be a city. I do really like the quay options though!

I wish you could help me do a couple of interchanges in my new city, if I can ever get the map right.

Why not ask then? :D

Hit me up on Steam chat or something so we can work something out. A clean map might mean that I could do everything for you - I just love building interchanges, but mod compatibility might get in the way (or maybe Save Our Saves could fix that?)

I'm not sure if I can use Steam chat. I'll have to check. The reason I'm not sure is because Steam won't let me post comments to the workshop. Somehow I don't meet some requirements, but I don't really understand.

There's one particular interchange I have in mind that I'd most like help with. It's a modified, all elevated cloverleaf. I know clovers aren't the most efficient four-way interchanges around, but for some reason I just love the way they look, and in the novel I'm writing, the city's main highway interchange is a cloverleaf and it's a somewhat prominent feature.

What's your Steam ID?

When I try to add you as a friend, I get the message 'Your account does not meet the requirements to use this feature. Visit Steam Support for more information.' When I go to the help, it says I have to spend $5.00 in the Steam store. What the hell? I bought CS and both expansions. That's more than $5.

Did you buy C:S from Steam or did you only activate it in there? I'm not very familiar with these kinds of problems even though Steam's been with me since Half-Life 2's midnight release (12 years ago, eek!) IIRC you can just add five bucks to your Steam Wallet since all they want to see is some hard cash to keep the spammers out.

Even then, Steam was only a suggestion really. Hit me up on PMs on this forum otherwise I guess. Be resourceful.

Anyway, I've been filling in some of my grid plan with endless eclectic suburbia, which led me to elaborate upon my previously clean interchange. There's also a nice asymmetric one for the bridge approach now, based on the CBE one in NYC.

Sorry for hogging this thread but I'm pretty happy with how my car-centric city is turning out:

That's a slick looking stack interchange. I've tried to build stacks before, but I could never get them to come out really nice. The only one I ever successfully finished looked pretty crappy. Granted, the last time I tried was only months after the game came out and I've learned a lot since then, but still, I find stacks really challenging to do well.

I'm trying out some stuff with the updated Fine Road Tool and BP's excellent Network Nodes Editor to sharpen my skills

They're a basic symmetrical stack with a Dallas-style central pillar, a supertight cloverturbine (with bad clearances I might add) that kinda looks like the new AK Leverkusen design in Germany, and an imitation-Pregerson Interchange without all those needlessly complicating HOV lanes

Very impressive!
What might look even better (as in more natural) is to use two-lane highways where it splits into, or merges from, two separate 1-lane ramps.

Yeah I did this with the bottom one. The other two are meant to be less-traveled interchanges so I built them really tight, with no space for smoothly connecting two highways :)

Here's one ive been working on lately, all built in game by hand, I should have done it in the asset editor to start but I wasnt sure what I wanted exactly, its a Partially Unwrapped Cloverleaf with express hwy & rail too.  Its still a bit messy, Ive yet to do the final cleaning, terraforming, and decorating, but its close to what Id like.

Its 16+ lanes thru the downtown core with a max speed express highway in the middle that skips all the downtown exits(only one exit created so far on the right).  Each direction goes from the centre of the city out and makes a neighboring city connection.  Also there is a railway that goes along the middle and its interchange is underground at the main interchange.

Sunken Y-Stack.

This is one of the better interchanges I've seen. I love how it works with the existing rail and street layout!

I had an idea to use the National Road from NExt much like Matthias King did, nothing fancy but it will serve for now:

I like it!
Lot's of fun creating a network of secondary national roads to connect the more remote area's of the map - it really forces you to rethink how to do interchanges, to get creative while keeping it simple at the same time.

I'm not sure how much more time I'm going to spend on my Los Angeles-like city, so without further ado I present its interchanges:

Scratch that, using a new LUT, map theme, and road textures has inspired me to at least finish the freeway system in this city.

In my previous post (sorry for doubling up btw, but images are really wonky to edit in atm!) I showed the bigger central 'spine' interchanges in my first and last pics, and the ones on the northern perimeter freeway in the second and third screenshots. Right now I'm finishing up the southern perimiter, and the inland interchange is pretty much complete outside landscaping and detailing:

Wow! How did you get those additional road markings in there?

Edit: nevermind, I just found out about your secret on Reddit. Yesterday I was thinking the same, whether we could use props to create road markings - looks like you answered my question with a perfect illustration :)

I have been doing it ever since prop anarchy was released, but barrier placer makes it a hundred times faster, when that mod gets curves you will see how far i can take it  :)

This should satisfy your latest requirement on curving props, dropping rail cars has never been easier!

Question here. How do you guys go about planning a design and layout for your interchanges? I've got plans to turn this in to a five way interchange and I'm not sure how to lay it out.

That river doesn't help but that railway line is mostly temporary and will be moved around.

The external road from the top will probably be moved so it connects to the two lane centre-bottom road. The road from the left will carry onto the right-bottom road, which leaves the right hand road from the dock/industrial area to connect up.

EDIT: So... I've altered the layout. It's very messy. Spaghetti Junction like, but it works! I can't do aesthetics as well as some of you guys XD

20160606214135_1.jpg

Another EDIT: So scrap that. I redid it. Looks better than before IMO though I'll need to check to see whether drivers will be able to access all directions.
