So... Imgur isn't letting you upload Steam images? For instance you should be using this URL to copy: http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/714157961159958691/754E2175C45D60D7808A0DE81F1EE1C351D025D8/

I don't think it's Imgur. It's this forum. Whenever I try to use that url with Imgur, I get the following message: 'You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community.'  I will assume that it's this forum rather than Imgur.

Okay, wish it would be good to know that it's not just me, but seeing how popular Steam is... I hope Simtropolis will allow images from Steam soon. Meanwhile this stuff has taken half a page that could've been used to stay on topic. =/

Most of the time, I make bog standard stuff like this, especially if I don't have much space:

PZY337o.jpg

With the original highway stub of my city, I first wanted to replace it. Then I thought, why not simply expand it?

So I've decided to go do something that most don't and that something is a 6-way interchange.

That's an incredible interchange :O! Looks like quite the snug fit too. How long did it take you to make that?

6-8 hours I think, most of the time was spent trying to find ways to connect all 6 directions together.

Very nice work on your part, although it showcases the need for better slope control in the game itself.

Continuing on the theme of revamped main interchanges, here's what I've done to mine:

CS_0009.png

Another angle:

CS_0010.png

I thought of replacing it outright, but there was no room for that due to the bridge just off frame to the left in the first picture.  So, this is what I came up with.

It's kind of ugly but I give myself a "c" for creativity.  I essentially extended my spur highway across, stub ending it at the road running parallel to the through highway.  When that stub is ever extended, that interchange will probably become a parclo.  I'm not sure it's possible to get every movement accommodated within that footprint - certainly with slopes no worse than what already exist - but counting nearby intersections and interchanges every movement is represented.  The only movements directly absent are those between the new stub and the far through carriageway.  The best part of all this is I was able to keep demolitions to a minimum - I only had to wipe out a few squares of industry in upgrading the 3-lane ramp that makes the 270-degree swing around (originally I had kept the original 1-lane but it quickly grew congested).  Also, everything is kept to 2 levels.

So I decided I would go with a little bit more simple and make a y-interchange, originally was trying to remake the one from NAM on simcity 4 and couldn't quite get it to work, so I made this one instead.

Hey guys. After some 14 hours or so, I've sort of finished the Y-Stack interchange. This is the longest it has ever taken me to do anything like this lol, but I'm learning a lot about the game as I go, which rocks. Just flora left to place, and possibly one last tweaking round.

I hope you like it, and don't forget to visit my Asset Studio  if you did : ) More goodies upcoming.

Yes, I kind of screwed up the positioning for this, could have had more real estate if I moved the whole thing a but down and left - Oh well. Next time I'll have more room :)

Oh yes, forgot to mention. Don't know if you noticed, but I'm using two lane OWRs since there is no two lane highway or ramps. I use them to channel the right amount of lanes into each highway, for ideal traffic flow. There is not a single traffic light, possibly just one or two give ways. Gosh I can't wait to play with it :)

Downside to using OWR is that you get all the Zebra crossings :( Oh well, gotta live with it for now.

That's one insanely elaborate interchange TPB!

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

I'm really hoping real 2 lane highway(ramps) get added soon. I dislike that the 2-lane 1 ways have a speed limit of 40 instead of 80 or higher. It looks good (apart from the zebra crossings), but really lowers capacity and flow.

Interesting interchange though, must have felt like an accomplishment after finishing it after 14 hours :)

Oh crud, I did not think of the speed limit issue :( AS it goes, I'm really looking forward to some more ramp types and highway widths as well ;)

This interchange is based off El Toro Y in California. I got a pretty decent representation me thinks, except the circular loop ramps which I added myself ; ) I also made the Parclo which is nearby El Toro Y.

Yes I am quite proud of how it came out! Most of the time was spent making fixes, tweaking the curves for symmetry, etc. It's incredible how fast time flies when you are so immersed :)

I've used the 2-lane one-ways in a few situations myself.  If you think about it, there's a sense of realism to the reduced speed as freeway ramps usually have some level of an advisory speed on them anyway - and certainly the ones with the degrees of curvature that we all seem to be building!

Good point Sabre :)

I personally can't live without them, as they allow for a more realistic network on my interchanges, since we don't have accel/deccel lanes yes.

For example in this image you can see what I mean, each ramp has its own lane going out, helps keep traffic free-flowing :)

OMG, I just got the ground view Mod, and I am LOVING IT!!... look!

The sky is so awesome in this game....

EDIT:

I've assambled my modified El Toro "modular" in game, having so much fun just watching cars drive on it hehehe.

Consists of the parclo and the Y-Stack. Im Thinking of removing the circular loops to make it closer to the real thing :D

Here's my take on a cloverleaf, this one is basic, but slightly different from the original design.

Here's my take on a cloverleaf, this one is basic, but slightly different from the original design.

That's an interesting take on it!  Of course, in real life you would never see such a thing since the big advantage (really the only one) of a cloverleaf is that it only has 2 (or possibly 1) bridges - they're relatively cheap.  While yours does eliminate most if not all of the weaving (depends on how many people are making U-turns), it's with left entrances (a no-no) and 4 additional structures.

Let's try something a bit different. This is a little "drive through" of my city that passes through some of the previous interchanges that I showcased, if briefly. I wasn't sure where to post this so bite me. :P

...

1st person camera is a little bumpy at times, and the cims drive wayyy too fast - seriously, is that like 150 mph or something? Still, I feel like this game has potential for a true u-drive-it mode.

I've spent a good amount of time doing that myself.  Not much real use to doing so aside from sight-seeing, but it's still pretty neat.  I've been able to leave the city borders as well and once did a transit of the highways surrounding the city.  Doesn't always let you do that though, so I don't know how I did it.  Just don't get lost in the fog at the edge of the map!  (I haven't tried to find out what happens when you hit the edge.)  Which mod are you using that allows you to actually go faster than the automata?

Neat video! You can change the walking speed in the STG Camera settings, top right corner camera icon. as well as many other settings,.

Nice interchange! I'm sitting here trying to figure out how I would get from the top northbound artery to go west on the bottom.

Did you attach a camera to a cim car? This is one of the coolest things I've seen all week.
