It brings a tear to my eye seeing proper modular container areas. Now where are the warehouses?

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Great work, I have been experimenting with the game recently but it seems my urban design is not even closer than yours thus, I have jams everywhere. Now I can definitely see the difference between grid based cities and those that aren't.

Amazing as always. I will give a try to the new modular cargo. I was using another kind of cargo areas but this one seems to be really good.

Ln X: thanks for the tip, I might mix up the zones a bit, although I have become very careful of noise issues around commercial buildings. Some selective bulldozing might help as well.

Ultimate727: The Markthal is a custom unique building as well. I've downloaded various growables as well, most mentioned in earlier postings.

Mymyjp: Thanks. When I posted a 'short' history summary on Paradox Plaza, I went through the whole history again. It's quite fun to see how it has grown again.

max_13: I was amazed when I saw it on Reddit. Best find of the week sofar, got some other great stuff today though...

rsc204: Thanks for the kids words.

charlesnew: Thanks, it's the game that keeps amazing me :)

Ln X: As soon as I find some decent warehouses, I'll be sure to include them! It's good to see some more industrial focused mods show up for sure.

simsample: Thanks :) Be sure to post some pictures when you've built some nice stuff.

jmsepe: I think grid based cities can work as well, you just have to keep the basic traffic rules in mind when deciding where you're going to hook your grid into the highway system. I just don't really like the american style grid myself, but that's more of a stylistic choice than a practical one.

    Balthoraz: They're amazing aren't they :)

Tonraq: Yep, I hope even more industrial styled assets will show up.

    Today's mods:

Today's big one, a custom pedestrian overpass by BadPeanut: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=418352365

I've also found a nice petrol station which I used in this update. It's made by rlrh1996: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=406497683

    Update:

On a recent business trip I spotted a pretty interesting design for pedestrian overpasses. I made some calls, and got the engineering company to design one for Forkton as well.

It replaces the old pedestrian overpass between the Old Forkton area and the stadium

    7AaBxyd.jpg

With the nicer design of this bridge, we're hoping it won't be filled with graffiti in mere days like the last one....

    VVeJYJI.jpg

It certainly looks more sturdy than the previous one as well.

    OhDGF21.jpg

It's already got a new nickname... it's called the Botched Boob-job by the Forktonners. Yeh, they have great taste.... The love walking across it though.

    zXTQ2oN.jpg

Next up, we've been receiving some complaints that there was a complete lack of petrol stations along our highways.

We decided to sign a deal to fix this.

This view might look familiar to some of you car driving readers.

    J2qtbq4.jpg

and if not.. maybe now? Also note the walls there to prevent anybody from walking onto the motorway.

    aeM7vw8.jpg

Lots of people already arriving to fill up (on either petrol or some quick groceries).

    jZ6qTw8.jpg

One was built on the other side of the motorway as well.

    bqAwr6Z.jpg

We just had to buy up a couple of farms in the area. Which may be something we'll have to resort to more often in the future.

    uYWjck2.jpg

Ow, I almost forgot.... I got the most recent update from the Forkton Cartography Initiative Committee today, a brand new map of the entire Forkton area.

It's big.... and it's got ALL the buldings on it (except for the petrol stations, those got added after the map was made).

(OOC: it's 8150x7150 pixels actually, click for the full version - but it's REALLY big)

    KlEacLk.jpg

if you want to make a map like this as well, read the first comment on this reddit thread. I just upped the DPI to 600 for this image, Page size B1.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/3160kl/so_you_want_maps_of_your_city_like_this/

    Hope you've enjoyed this update.

    Amazing update as always!

I have downloaded that bridge too, but I haven't tried it yet. It looks great in your city!

And how is that map mod called again?

Really good service station. I guess you are using the gap-filling brushes? I noticed you left out some concrete - I had that problem too, but you can actually squeeze the round concrete brush pretty much everywhere with a bit of patience, even the tightest corners. Looking forward to what you come up with next :)

    Ln X: thanks

Ultimate727: I think it has been renamed to Cimtographer.
perken: hehe, I think I'm going to slow down a bit on the updates. I can't seem to fit in an update per day anymore.

Schulmanator: Hey, nice to see you in the C:SL section. Cats are always welcome in Forkton!

ianclowe4c: Go for it, it's great fun keeping track of what you've been doing. It's always nice to share ideas.

max_13: I try to make my on/off ramps as sharp as I can. There are some spots I can't get into, even with the round brush.

feyss: yeh, I was surprised as well. Don't know what sort of souped up tractors they have in Finland :)
kingofsimcity: thanks, was a bit frustrating to make with the selective bulldozing, but I like the effect.

Mulefisk: thanks. I love making the areas look somewhat realistic.
charlesnew: No problem, it's one of the reason I like making and reading CJ's :)

Mymyjp: Well, I've been playing this city since release day, so it's been almost a month now.
TekindusT: land values have shot up amazingly high recently. But I can hook you up if you want :)

tankmank: thanks :) Although I prefer to call my 2 lane highways Fastways, the 6 lanes I call motorways... ah well, tomato tomato (hmz, that doens't really work when you type it :))

    Update:

I've spent way too much time on fixing traffic again over at Portside today. The expansion there apparently messed things up again. Once you get a little backlog of trucks in there, the situation spirals out of control fast.

I've experimented a lot with the intersection today. Lots of small changes, see how it works, then bulldozing and trying something else.

Finally I found that giving both entrances into the area a direct link to the Western part of the industrial section alleviated the traffic flow a bit further down just enough to not run into any problems anymore. Suffice to say, I can't grow Portside any more without completely rebuilding the infrastructure.

here's what I ended up with:

    aE1HcZ9.jpg

We needed to expand our industry though. Good thing we still had plenty of room over at Otherside.

    zro8QE4.jpg

As you can see the district of Otherside itself was expanded quite a bit as well.

The rich people over in the main Forkton area were so happy that the smelly industry was expanded over at Otherside, that they gathered some money for a 'thanks you want that smelly stuff over there gift'.

    Nk7N4bX.jpg

We've also noticed a large amount of lumber trucks coming out of the port and cargo stations lately. A quick check with the number crushers over at town hall revealed that the logging operations over at Granny's Grove couldn't keep up with demand anymore.

Luckily, there's a rather nice forested area near Hamsborough. Some quick shuffling of papers later, and we were good to develop that area.

    uwjdkHk.jpg

    It's already bustling with activity

    iXUZh2Y.jpg

Wish they were a bit more careful with the raw materials though, they just leave them lying around just about anywhere.

    sf8CUOj.jpg

The lumberjacks needed a place to live close by as well, so they can sleep all night and work all day (and that's ok).

A new district basically formed itself

    0KUT1VB.jpg

Right when I wanted to go home for the day, I got an emergency call, there was something wrong at the waste water treatment plant.

    UIDHLp5.jpg

darn it, I just bought these shoes, look at them now!

    46UCq0c.jpg

OOC: I haven't got a clue what happened here. Seems like some of the roads have suddenly dropped by a few meters. Maybe it's something in the patch. Ah well, this will be a nice puzzle to solve later :D

Also, I've been testing an idea, but I'm not sure if I like it yet.

    What do you think?

Ah I see we have another advocate to the Gabtoria way of road planning where you just add random slip roads until it starts working, excellent!

that image of the road that's just under the water looks awesome. Does it still work as a road, only then we could make some fords which would be cool.

As for the tower at the end I'd say build up around it and see. At the moment it sticks out a bit too much.

    Cheers

    James

I could continue to give a million compliments on Forkton, but right now I'm writing about two specific things:

    1. The reworked Portside Interchange = Exquisite!!!  That entire area now is beyond compare, but I particularly like the way you've done the interchanges themselves.  I like that fact that your highways aren't designed 'over the top' in terms of extravagant networking, but they are still designed in a unique way that's distinctive in style.

    2. That monument at the tip of the peninsula... for my part, two thumbs up.  Personally, I think its setting lends a dramatic flair.

Keep it up, iviaarten!  I give a big "+1" to all the positive comments being posted about Forkton!!

I'd leave that small road flooded and build around that, it looks neat. Could be a town/a few houses with an interesting story. The tower looks like a 2250's version of the Statue of Liberty in that location, I like it.

I stepped over Forkton on Paradox forums and followed you to simtropolis.
Finally I decided to get an account to thank you for your amazing work. Very inspiring and unbelievable detailed build.

I hope to build a city to present soon. All tries until now were not as functional concerning traffic layout and non-griddy growth. I am still trying hard though.

I quite enjoy that tall building at the end. It is very beautiful. So many different ideas and concepts can be created there.

As for the rest of the entry, I think it looks wonderful. The new development is coming along very well I see.
