Origin, for whatever reason, seems to have done something odd with their version recently, as we've been getting a rash of tech support issues from people with Origin copies recently.

I think EA just took the unpatched disc version and slapped their DRM on it, but maybe I'm wrong. Wouldn't be surprised if they were doing this on purpose.

Yes.  The Steam version is prepatched and is version 1,1,641.  Fully patched and diskless.

Having just dug out my copy of SimCity 4 again, and updating the NAM to v32, I find that my railways are no longer working! Any ideas?

Puzzle and filler pieces appear to work fine but normal rail doesn't.

Depending on whether you want to keep the RealRailway installed, you will have to redraw all of your rail lines. If you can't redraw it by clicking on it, you'll have to destroy it and rebuild it entirely.

But that rail was laid after I installed NAM/RealRailway, and new rail doesn't work either...

Hi back here again, After installing nam 32 again and picking Australian road textures, I booted up my city and noticed road + intersections all had RHD turning lanes I'm 110% certain I have a LHD copy of the game. I looked in the nam folder and the Left hand drive plugin was installed. Going back into the city i drew a + road intersection away from development and noticed the turning lanes where LHD I tried a whole bunch of road street combinations and it remained LHD but as soon as i zoned some residential zones around the intersection the turning lanes reverted to RHD.

I'm fairly certain I have tried all the possible solutions, otherwise ill just change textures and try again.

If its any use I'm using the gog.com non drm  :D copy of the game.

I think probably some RHD textures got mixed up with the LHD textures. That's probably what's causing it.

Ah ok, Im surprised no one else has brought this up since ( given us LHD users are the minority ). I take it there is no solution? If so I'll try another road texture pack.

Edit: I reinstalled with standard Euro textures and its purely due to zoning.

Low density res: cause turning lanes to go RHD

Med-High res stays LHD

Low commmercial switches to RHD

Med-High Commercial goes back to LHD

agriculture stays LHD

Med-high industry goes RHD.

Left-Hand Traffic is why it's not working.  The LHD support file for the RRW apparently didn't make it into the installer.  I've attached it here.  Install it to your NAM Left Hand Version folder (which should actually begin with a "z", if I recall correctly).

Mr Moose suggested to me once to install Nam32,  I kept putting it off.. TitanicBuff and Brian52 shared screenshots over on SimCityBuffs and i said "I want that"

Every since ive installed Nam32,  My City has not crashed not even once!   Ive left the game running overnight and it was running when i woke up !  Back in my Nam31 days, it crashed each like every 10 minutes or so,  Id lose some GREAT grow-able i tried to historize (word?)  Then every time i tried saving the game, like every 3 minutes (oh i hated it),  id get those two "sudden silent ' moments like a quiet-flash and the game crashed out.

With NAM 32,all my issues cleared up!

Double track rail is working now, but not single track. :/

Sounds like an installation issue of some sort.  The file that contains the LHD paths for the single-track is called "RailwayAddonMod_STR_LEFT_HAND_VERSIONS_ONLY_Required_Additional_Plugin.dat".

So I've just tried modified us textures and the turning lanes stay LHD regardless of zoning etc. Its just the Euro textures that revert to RHD when zones are placed next to intersections.

There's some weirdness that means that it still doesn't work. I'm having a deeper look into it now.

EDIT: I forgot most of the RAM component of the RRW got a RUL re-write. IIDs have been moved around, but the LHD paths haven't come with them.

I've got the basic stuff over to the new IIDs, but this will take time.

EDIT2: I've got to get to bed, so here's what I've done so far: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69425965/z__RealRailway_LHD.dat

It's got useless files in it at the moment and some stuff is only placeholder, but it's now got the same level of functionality as RHT RRW.

Recently had to give up the Frankensteinian system of ancient doom (primary HD failure), and switched over to my Vista-based laptop with a fresh install, the round of Maxis patches, NAM32, etc, and am running into a damned interesting little problem.

Long story short:  ferries are refusing to route under non-Maxis bridges (rail, road, avenue, highway) of any sort (both in-city transit use and on the regional transportation map), despite the bridge dialog indicating sufficient height for ferries.  Kill the non-Maxis bridges and switch to Maxis bridges at the same height, ferries route fine.  Kill those and try a non-Maxis bridge, and the ferry routes drop.

I'm at a bit of a loss.  Any ideas?

I have noticed this in the past, but I thought it was my problem being off in the Linux world and all.  Something strange about the construction of the bridges?

Here's a howdy do.  This the the new draggable raised road (level 1).fbsPonv.jpg

Is this just incomplete implementation or did I miss something? I couldn't find anything on the tab ring to help and I spent some time looking.  My road falls on the train tracks.

You need to have a second starter on the other side or have a gap between the Rail and the Avenue; adjacent crossings are not covered like that.

OK.  Hope they will hook up.  Kind of awkward.

EDIT Later:  worked a treat.  Thank you.

Regarding the 3 GB flag that the NAM installer adds to the EXE - I understand this is to allow the game to recognize 3 GB of virtual memory.  I'm assuming this is basically the same exact thing as the 4GB patch, just a lower limit?

I don't think it is different.  And the game doesn't use virtual memory at all.  It changes the O/S partition in 4GB machines from 2:2 to 3:1 user:O/S.  It restricts the operating system to 1GB of real memory.

Another minor error I don't believe I've seen mention of - I get this in the preview for all of the Highway -> Symphony Smooth Curves On-Slope pieces.  They all seem to appear correctly once plopped, however.

Actually, for 32-bit OSes, the installer must add the /3GB flag to the boot.ini file and also install the 4 GB patch.  The net effect is that you get 3 GB for SC4.

For 64-bit OSes, the NAM installer installs only the 4 GB patch, and SC4 gets to  use the whole 4 GB.

The reason for the difference is that with a 64-bit OS, the address space is big enough that the OS can be placed outside the 4 GB used for the game.  (4 GB is the most memory that can be addressed using 32 bits.)

I'm running the International version of SC4DE non-drm been wondering is there a way to change LHD to RHD? I've seen mods that do this but I'm unsure if they are safe to use with NAM32.
