Hi, I tried to install NAM 32 on my computer, but when I click okay after the user agreement, it just stops and says, NAM has stopped working and the installation stops. I already updated Simcity 4 Rush Hour up to 1.1.638, but why this is keep happening? I am using Vista on 64-bit. Help me please, thank you.

It sounds like you have a corrupted installation file.  I'd suggest downloading the NAM again and retrying.

I deleted and re-downloaded. Then I tried to reinstall that, but it still freezes after I clicked agree on the user agreement. Is it because I installed original SC4 and Rush Hour differently?

No; that doesn't make a difference.  Also, the NAM installer hasn't even looked at your installation at the time it crashes for you.  What are your system specs (hardware and software)?

Looked up your desktop.  Pretty standard, and comes with Vista which means it is probably not available any more.  However, it seems like a pretty standard box and has more or less the same AMD processors that i have.  Since I am not having any such problems, I expect you have caught some serious malware or, as Z1 stated, a scragged installation download.  Did you download it again and retry?

If you can't get this to run at all, I would very seriously suggest a deep virus scan, off-line.  What kind of protection are you running?  Have you considered an upgrade to at least Windows 7?

I am using protection called V3, and as I checked virus scan, there was no malware detected. NAM 32 still doesn't work after I deleted, re-downloaded, and tried to install.

Sounds to me like the installer itself is crashing.  I don't think it requires many outside programs to run, but to be on the safe side, try updating things like Java, Microsoft NET framework, etc...

Make sure you have all the C++ control libraries, especially both flexgrids, as the installer requires these.  They should come with the C++ run-time libraries and they are not default.

So I'm trying to get the NAM.  I have made myself an administrator, gained 300 GB of space (a long process), but it appears there is a roadblock.  So I'm running the installer, and eventually I get this exact notice...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your account does not have the access necessary to preform the needed operations.  In order to allow the NAM installer to preform these actions and install the NAM in the proper place for your account, you need to do the following.

1. Log in to an account with administrator priveledges (which I did)

2. Give administrative priviledges to that account (which I did)

3. Log back into this account and run the NAM installer (which I did)

After that, you may remove the administrative privledges from this account if you wish.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have no idea.  I did all I tried.  Please help me.

I did.  It claimed that the NAM was successfully installed.  However, that is not true.

I suppose you got around to giving write permissions on the file C:\<your account>\Program ...\Apps\SimCity 4.exe.

If you did something different, what did you do?

I have no idea, but another issue is afoot.

I'm trying to make a 5 lane avenue (the size of a default avenue) but I can't make it without only having road every two squares.  I did the same with a road, and I could use regular road to fill in those holes.

Your description's a little confusing.  Clearly what you're trying to make is the TLA-5 (avenue with a turning lane in the middle).  This should be dragged with the road tool (not the avenue tool).  If you only get default road when you drag from the starter piece, it means you installed "NWM without RULs" in the installer.

What I mean is that when I drag a road to intersect an avenue (5 lane avenue to 3 lane road) it doesn't create an intersection, it makes this ugly blob of road with sidewalk in the middle of it.

And also, since I got the NAM advertisements have been coming out of my speakers.

Hmm. When you drag out one half of a TLA, it makes an ugly mess that is usually solved by dragging out the other half of the intersection. I'm guessing you did this already, but there have been people before that asked before trying what should've been basic steps, so I just want to be sure.

Some screenshots should be in order. Descriptions are usually difficult, especially with new users, since neither the newb nor the experienced user know how to communicate properly in the others language. A picture is worth 1000 words.

Not sure about the ads. Do they come on when you run the game, or when you have a web browser open? The NAM doesn't have anything of the sort, and if you're feeling paranoid you can see exactly everything that it installs. Ads, or internet access, isn't one of them. If you have any of PEG's stuff, I know some of his plugins have crazy long query tunes, and some of them play exactly like advertisements.

Sadly, I can't get a picture.  The ads come all the time.  The 5 lane TLA I want to intersect a regular Maxis avenue, but I apparently can't.  I want to have also the SAM streets, but it deletes the piece of street next to it.

I'd like to just note my finding with the latest version.

Somehow; and even tinkering with NAM files didn't answer my bafflement, the new NAM is overriding parts of the Tar-sealed streets mod.

This is Rivit's problem, and he is working on it. The issue comes for those pieces of functionality (draggable street curves) that did not exist when Rivit made his mod, and therefore the appropriate override pieces don't exist. The only option really is to not use the new features until Rivit has made the correct textures, or just live with the visual disparity.

Hello!

Not so long ago i've installed the NAM from this link

It's great but some FLUP pieces which seem to have to be there are missing (i'm mostly talking about the most basic rail-related ones,

such as Straight Perpendicular Road under Straight Rail).

I've got two pieces called "flexible underpass", one in Road menu, another in Public transport menu, i've scrolled through both of them, finding many exotic things like "diagonal road under diagonal rail", but no orthogonal road/rail underpass! can i somehow download them separately or i'm looking in wrong place or what?

Quick question:  did anyone else lose all the cables on their cable-stayed monorail bridges after going to NAM32, or is it just me?

Rotate the pieces with the HOME and END keys to switch between diagonal/orthogonal orientations.

@Mandel, yes I have, and I was unable to find what I'm looking for.

But I did have two additional questions (for anyone to answer): 1. How to you do a sunken highway. Whenever I lower something, all I get is water.  2. Can HSR go underground?

Thanks in advance

<snip> (for notification purposes)

1. Build on higher ground. If you get water, clearly you're too close to the water table, so you simply have to either build in a spot of higher elevation, or use the god mode tools to raise all of the surrounding terrain. If you use the hole digger lots, you'll notice that when you're close to the water, they won't dig if the bottom of the hole is submerged.

2. No. You can pretend with some monorail-to-subway lots, but remember that the HSRP is just a reskinned and retooled monorail network, so all the same limitations are in place. You can make it sunken if you want, but again there are those limitations. Not sure if GHSRP supports at-grade intersections; it's been a while since I've used it, but it'd be worth a test for functionality reasons.

Actually, thinking about it, there's only one network that goes underground: light-rail/subways. Tunnels are supported though, in case that's what you meant. Just drag through an appropriately sized hill and it should work.

Given a set of farms bisected by a Maxis highway with a shared ramp and a nearby rail freight station, is there any way to make freight trucks prefer the freight station to the highway?  In this case the freight station is actually within the lot of one of the farms, is on the main road (the ramp).  All farms prefer the highway for freight.  Grrrr!

My only thought is to use some sort of traffic filter lot to keep freight trucks from entering the highway, but my guess is that any sort of traffic control lot from the STEX is broken and would probably end up blocking more than just freight trucks.

I sort of expected that.  The whole freight thing is clearly just a "road noise" to make the congestion higher.  This occurred to me today when I set up farms on opposite sides of my highway and laid down rail tracks in hope of picking up the freight.  F A I L E D.
