I've just reinstalled NAM 32. On my initial install, I ran the compiler manually as my java didn't seem to work and everything was fine. However, after trying to run it manually again, I'm getting an error:

"The settings file does not exist. You have to reinstall the compiler."

I've tried reinstalling NAM but still getting the error message. Any ideas?

Make sure you have the right version of Java.  64 bit for a x64 computer.

That shouldn't be a problem as the compiler worked on this OS a month or so ago!

How about your compiler version?  Check the Java site.

Have got the newest version of java that is available - 64 bit to match my OS. It's a real head-scratcher as I haven't changed anything on my system since the last install of NAM.

If you are sure that nothing has changed vis-a-vis your version of Java and the NAM, then look for some other problem.  Computers don't change if nothing is changed.  Perhaps you are being snookered by your virus scanner, or (gasp) maybe you have acquired some malware.

Maybe this has been noted before - some of the stop and street signs are misplaced, I'm assuming due to incorporation of expanded radii to road and street intersections:

If I want to create a freight yard lot - where do I find Real Railway conforming textures?

Or maybe I'm doing something wrong - but in the lot editor only four (or five?) overlay textures form RRW are shown?

I have no anti-virus software! The PC I play SC4 on is also used for audio editing so I don't ever connect it to the internet as I don't want things like anti-virus software hogging the processor.

I totally understand your suggestion but that's why it is so odd! It had worked previously.

I haven't uninstalled NAM by the way, just installed over the top. If I try uninstall first, this shouldn't affect anything, right?

I'd be darned careful of manipulating the Plugins.  I still suspect it was something else.  Are you running the Windows Indexer?  Early versions of that service sometimes were active when they should not be.

I noticed that for web-browsers Java allows for download of both a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of Java for 64-bit windows. Which version do you have? I installed both because I use Waterfox (occasionally). I think the NAM is in a 32-bit package, and I can't imagine why it wouldn't be working now, but it's worth checking and having both installed. It doesn't really hurt anything and takes up a negligible amount of space for a situation you don't have to worry about.

I truly hope that NAM is 32-bit at heart.  SC4 Deluxe is 32-bit.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm in the process of doing a complete reinstall of SC4 and NAM looks to have installed properly this time - the compiler ran successfully on its own. Perhaps there was a conflict with a new plug-in after my last NAM install. I'll keep an eye on it if I change my NAM settings with a fresh install and try to narrow down what it could have been.

So for now the case is unresolved but shelved...

I'm having problems with Highways, and no matter how long/hard I look, I can't find any helpful guides or videos.  I'm trying to build ramps from my elevated 6-Lane Highway, to the ground and none of the puzzle pieces seem to work.  The only elevated ramp I could even find, isn't for 6 lane. I tried attaching it anyway, and of course it didn't match and link up.

Your assumption would be correct.  With the original textures they are in perfect position.  It's just at the bottom of the priority list.

If I want to create a freight yard lot - where do I find Real Railway conforming textures?

Or maybe I'm doing something wrong - but in the lot editor only four (or five?) overlay textures form RRW are shown?

As it's a new creation, only the basic textures have been made so far.

For elevated networks, you must use the FLEX ramps.  Place the FLEX ramp first, then drag the network overtop of it.  It will change shape to match the highway.  Note that only some ramps are supported at some heights; it's an incomplete project.

Nope. He's trying to use RHW-6S ramps on RHW-6C.

There are no ERHW-6C ramps. Use RHW-6S instead.

Hi,

After installing nam when i loaded up game if I clicked on a 4 way road intersection the textures would dissapear and revert to no turning lanes. Also i had Aussie textures installed and some roads where correct but alot of roads would have us textures. I put ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ_ before the nam folder and nothing changed. I don't have the time to place mods in one by one atm, but if there are any suspect mods that could be causing this issue ill definitely remove.

1. Click the crossing using the One Way Road tool. The Automatic Turn Lanes Plugin (which is what you're using) was changed so as to not interfere with other NAM plugins.

2. If you have a custom texture you wish to use, just putting Zs will no longer work. The structure of the NAM has expanded to two folders, and one of them will load after everything, no matter how many Zs you put (you'll see why soon). There are two ways around that: Either put it in the z___NAM folder, or add "z___" to the mame (three underscores; underscores load after Zs, which is why just spamming Zs doesn't work).

Hello.  As you can see by my picture I'm having problems with traffic flow, as in there isn't any.  My city is at 35,000, but there are very few cars.  I have the latest NAM update, but my NAM Traffic Control Simulator refuses to save any changes I make.  It keeps giving me an error message with the text, "you probably have Simcity running".  I'm running Windows 8, and I was thinking that might have something to do with it.  ccfour.jpg

I'm on Windows 8 (have been running it since the Consumer Preview), and can run the TSCT without issue.  It might not hurt to reinstall the TSCT.

FYI, the Traffic Simulator has very little to do with the visuals of the cars on the roadways.  It crunches the numbers--the Route Query tool is what will tell you whether or not commuters and freight are actually using your networks.  The cars and trains you see in game are largely controlled by both the Automata Simulator (which the TSCT does not touch), and by your Graphical Settings in the game itself (setting them to High will ensure the maximum visibility the game will allow)..

I'm having a problem with the NAM increased capacity for maxis airports. In the menu, the preview shows the enhanced capacity, but once plopped, the airport still shows the standard maxis stats?

The actual capacity shown by the plopped airport is correct - it is 4 or 8 times the Maxis capacity, depending on which option was selected in the installer.  However, the figures shown in the menu preview are incorrect - they are actually twice what they should be.  This will be fixed in the next NAM release.

So a few questions/comments leftover from a different thread...

1) Should I use the smaller "SFX" installer or the full one? What does one have that the other doesn't?

2) The Hole Diggers and the viaducts are very cool, but when I tried to make a depressed area (15 or 16 m, I can't remember), the viaducts never worked like I wanted to, with the transition piece making a thing too long and too bumpy to work over the depression. I'm guessing that I would need the "short" viaduct transition piece (one tile). Would that be right, or is there another trick to doing this?

1. The uncompressed installer. The "SFX" installer (stands for self-extracting installer, for some reason) is the compressed file that contains the full installer, for ease of distribution (the full installer is about 4 times bigger than it would be compressed); it extracts the full uncompressed installer.

2. That's the purpose of on-slope (1-long) height transitions, for use with embankments; the other height transition (3-long, someare 4 or 7) you're looking at should be placed on flat ground.

2.5. The recommended height is 15 meters.

Oh okay, that makes sense--so you compressed the installer! Clever.

Very very stupid question, but I somehow didn't install the OWR arrow reduction mod (or, somehow, BRT, since I can't find it anywhere in plug-ins or the menus). Of course I could install NAM again, but I'm afraid that if I don't do things the exact way I had them before, I'll override them. I also found some old OWR arrow reduction mods from an old Aug/10 version of NAM, but given the other out of date items, it seems pretty risky.

None of this is particularly pressing (OWR arrows are annoying, but hey) but it is a bit annoying.

I'm having a problem where when I place Maxis Elevated Rail stations on Elevated Rail, one side of the station will connect to the rail, and the other side won't.

Similar issue also happens with the GLR and its stations.

When you call up the installer, it shows what options have been currently selected if you go to the custom installer.  This makes it easy to make any changes.

Make sure you're placing the station on perfectly flat terrain, that there are no neighbouring roads, rail, etc. locking the height of surrounding terrain and the Foundations have not been triggered.

Also, when placed on a road corner, it is normal for the El Rail/Monorail crossing the perpendicular road to disconnect. Simply rebuild it.

Hi everyone.

I was advised to direct your attention to regarding what seems to be either an instalation issue with NAM32 or potentially an unrelated road texture / NWM issue.

Not causing me any headaches but I don't know if you wanted to have a look.

Thanks.
