Last Saturday I got my first smart phone.

Your way behind the pack bro, got mine at 14. 1771

SO DID I!!!!!! Before that I had a piece of crap that didn't receive messages.

I don't watch TV. I like to have control over things.

This. TV, by virtue of being uninteractive, is rather flat and unstimulating of an activity unless you do it with someone. Like watching a movie with side comments. My brother and I recorded us watching Ace Ventura with us making side comments. It was funny, but we lost the footage.

I went without tv for a while but I got cable when I got internet in June. So far the tv mostly gets used for baseball games. I watch a little now but not much. I totally watch Breaking Bad though. Great show all the way through. It's the only show on my dvr.

I was a junior in college before I got a cellphone. It had a green screen and lasted me for quite a while. I'm currently on my 6th phone. The last 1 and the current 1 both smart phones. I should be on my 5th but I kinda... left the last one at the bus stop. So dumb.

Any way, in high school people had cellphones but you rarely saw anyone with a need to pull it out and use it while school was in session. Who the heck were they gonna call? Aside from the dealers with pagers, that sort of thing was unheard of. So yeah, I also went my entire childhood and a sliver of pseudo-adulthood without one and associate it with being an adult need. I'm getting used to it though.

Man, I was graduated from college before the iPhone came out.  It's still strange to think that KIDS THESE DAYS need cell phones.  It certainly can help keep them in touch with mom and dad in case of an emergency, but as a tool for trouble making, they're pretty useful, too.  Anyways, I'm not against them, for students, I mean.  Technology in our world can't be avoided, it seems.

DVR is another thing I don't really "get". My internal understanding of TV has always been "you watch something when it's on". Now, before there was DVR, there was "program the VCR to tape that", but since you could only do this for one thing at a time it prevented people from abusing it like they do with DVR.

Also, I on principle object to the idea of recording something and having the recording expire after 14 days (or however long your provider allows). If I am going to save something it must be saved permanently, dammit!

1775: I bought my first smartphone when I was 16. The difference is, I paid for the phone with my own money, using a part time job. Most kids probably can't even fathom that concept of responsibility, leaving the parents to pay for their bill.

I'll be attending the first ever post season game at PNC park this evening. It's going to be loud loud loud! I haven't been to a post season game since 1992. Let's go Bucs!

It's interesting how mobile phones are now more than just a verbal communication tool. With smartphones, we can browse websites, use social media, check email, play 3D games and choose from a huge library of apps. As with all devices, things are being made smaller yet smarter. The future PC will be more of a 'portable computer' - a single device that does everything, and can be taken anywhere.

It's true we're becoming more reliant on them on a daily basis. I think that's what's happening in schools, when they become a distraction. There are kids aged under 10 who have the latest iPhone. Many parents are pressurised to purchase, just because friends have one as a fashion statement. Kids of this age aren't responsible enough to own such a powerful tool. Cyber bullying is one issue, but with any phone, what about the health effects down the line? And when it gets lost, the parents are expected to fund a replacement.

You made post 1776 without saying something about American Independence? :(

But anyway, I'm rooting for Detroit. Pittsburgh's my choice for the NL.

The only postseason game I've ever been to was game 2 of the 1998 ALCS. Astute Yankee or general baseball fans may note that this was the game where Chuck Knoblauch allowed the go ahead run to score in the top of the 12th by arguing with the umpire instead of fielding the ball, which was still live. And yes, I was still there, so I had the "honor" of witnessing that in person.

Best MLB game ever (uh... that I saw)?  Game 4 of the '06 ALCS, bottom of the 9th walk off home run to sweep the A's in Detroit by Magglio Ordonez.  I was on my couch with my wife, both of us cheering our butts off.  Even today, watching that homer gives me chills.

I hope the Braves get knocked out in the NCDS. But, hey, it's Philly I'm in.

But Muck, you were at a great game.

Best i ever saw was Jimmy Rollins' walk off double with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth 2 on in game 4 of the 2009 NCLS against the Dodgers.

The best game I've watched is the Phillies World Series victory against the Rays in 2008. That last pitch was the best I've ever seen. Slider down the middle. Eric Hinske swung and missed at it. Great times from Philadelphia.

That it would. I would rather play Atlanta than LA. The Dodgers put the whoop on Pittsburgh this year.

It's a shame there isn't a baseball team called the Ninjas. Otherwise I'd love to see the Pirates play them in the world series. :P

Frankly, baseball shouldn't expand. But if it should,mi think appropriate locations could be Charlotte, Indianapolis, and maybe Portland or San Antonio.

Or maybe a second one in Philadelphia like in olden days, and we root harder than usual.

With a championship called the World Series, Baseball should expand. Right now it's just the US & Canada (just Toronto). I'd love to see a couple Mexican teams, and Cuba is big on Baseball too so end that embargo!

T Cuba is unquestionably not going to happen.

Lehigh Valley Ironpigs is our minor league team. So is the Camden Riversharks, but... It's Camden. Isn't it one of the most dangerous cities in America?

We have the Aces, Bandits, Cavalry, Blue Sox (lol), the Heat and the Bite.

I need to see more pro baseball games...

There's a team in Butler, PA (which is about an hour north of Pittsburgh) called the Blue Sox. They are not affiliated with any major league team.  My cousin was going to play for them last summer but it didn't work out.

1797: We recently set up a pro league a few years ago. Before that there were merely a handful of state wide amateur leagues. Due to the relative lack of popularity, I had to travel often for several hours to play scheduled junior/pee wee games whereas my friends playing more popular sports would be concentrated on their side of the city.
