Screenshots from various videos I have come across.

The leader boards in Beta. Interesting to see large populations in the small 2x2 tile and with not all options unlocked.

Two regional 'entrance'? How did he make that rollarcoaster bridge?

Good ol' Liberty Islands! Someday, I'll repost my old CJ.

I believe the rollercoaster bridge was made automatically after completing the drag and drop of the road.

Who do taxis must be yellow? The player will be unable to recreate New York City. Many cities have different-coloured taxis, representing a different taxi company.

Yellow cabs are the most recognisable in the world, you see a yellow car or mini van you automatically think Taxi.

They are just trying to tell you information through visuals, just what the glassbox aims to do.

I recognise them as black.

Yellow cabs only really exist in North America. And I must also agree with SirChick^; I also recognise taxis as black vehicles with a unique body shape. More broadly, I recognise any colour vehicle as a taxi if it's got 'Taxi' somewhere on it. Most players will however be North American (probably) so it makes sense that cabs are yellow, but taxis aren't yellow everywhere!

The creators of Simcity have recreated a very familiar world. It may not be your world or mine, but anyone who's watched Hollywood movies or American TV series situated in LA or Frisco, Chicago, New York or small town U.S.A. (and who hasn't?) will recognize it instantly. I love it myself.

Adding a few Champs Élysées buildings for Paris, timber frame houses for Germany or doubledecker buses for the UK isn't going to change that either...it'll still be North American to the core.

The world is not California. What will it take for developers (of all media, not just games) to realize that? And CA's, like, the only place in the world where the Age of Consent is 18. Take note, writers!

The most recognizable cabs in the world are NY's yellow cabs, this is probably why they choose that color in-game.

What's your proposed solution? The SimCity visual style should incorporate every city in the world? I know that if I were developing a city simulator, I'd base it on the cities I was most familiar with.

Personally I'm really enjoying the graphical style. The red-brick commercial buildings are reminding me a lot of the small town stuff I saw when I visited the US in Oregon and Pennsylvania, and of the photography by Stephen Shore in his book Uncommon Places. There's a really nice suburbia feel too to the little houses. As a fan of building small town America in SC4 this kind of appeals to me. I think it gives the game a good distinct look too, with a nice balance between abstraction and detail. The only designs I'm not that keen on are things like the Oil HQ and Casino, and some of the hi-tech and industrial buildings. They don't look like realistic places to me, they're a little too fanciful. But I can accept 'em.

I love the trees and the dirt tracks too. To be honest, I've got a lot of love for the graphics in this game and the screenshot above manages to make even a garbage incinerator beautiful. It's swaying me dangerously towards buying it. Though SC4 will always remain close to my heart for the real-life representation you can manage, I'm beginning to wonder if you can really find yourself even more immersed in a city in this one.

I agree, and I had the same feelings about the hi-tech buildings and casinos looking too fanciful...but the more I look at real new buildings in the Far East and the Emirates in particular, the more I realize that they're not so unrealistic after all!

But I would love to see a 1950's pack eventually, with more 50's buildings and, especially, cars!

They can't possible incorporate every city style in the world into the game. It would never make it to release! They use a Californian style because that's what they and most Americans are familiar with. Even so, the style in this game is not completely Californian. Some of the buildings are reminiscent of the Northeastern US cities like NYC and Philadelphia. Most of the rest of the architecture is stuff that you can find in any city, town, or village in North America.

Now, what would be cool is if they had the appearance of the cabs change with the style set you use. So, a British city would have black cabs instead of yellow cabs.

Many Hollywood movies set in "American" cities are actually filmed in Toronto (or Vancouver) to some extent.  Very few taxis in Toronto are yellow (most are orange or black) (but when filming, they sometimes bring in yellow taxis to create the illusion of an American city).

Architecture designs in SimCity should not resort to the theme park version and have greater variety of architecture.

The game is too American... but that will not change, and it will be up to the Community to create content to make the game a more global game. this is what happened last time, and it will happen again this time.

Anything more on "Screenshots"? Let's not get into one of those American vs. Another style debate. That has led to rather inappropriate arguments before. The game is what it is... Perhaps more will be added later...

Seconded, I don't care what style of buildings there will be, I just want a really wide variation and I DON'T want to see those dreaded blocks/groupings of similar buildings. At the very least customise the props a lot more...

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

i love that the stadiums and arenas acutely have events. it would be cool if you could bid to host things like the sim superbowl in your city, or if your region could bid to host the olympics. It would be neat if you could attract sports teams to your facilites to play the other cities in your region. you could have a sim victory parade if they win.

Yeah! The Sim Superbowl!!! Simcity Bulldozers vs. CitiesXL Cranes!

Seriously, I like the idea of staging events but I'm really hoping there will be some big sports-specific stadiums too later on for Football, Baseball, Atheletics, Soccer or Tennis, heck maybe even Cricket!

An Olympics challenge would be interesting too-build a required set of sports facilities and infrastructure in the city/region to qualify. The possibilities are endless...

Looking at the Expo Center, it has roads next to it, but they are not connected to the main road, even though it seems there is an intersection. Looks weird. I hope it's a bug ...

I'm not sure if you folks already thought of this, but I thought it'd be handy for the next beta. Memorise the keyboard shortcuts to manipulate the camera, and turn off "show UI in photos" in options. This way you can focus more on building your city, then take some nice snaps of it at the end of the hour.

I think thats just a strange glitch on the Arena picture, the parking lot also disappears. Im sure this game (like all others) will come with a Day 1 patch for most of this stuff, thats fine by me.

Well see that stuff is what concerns me, yes its minor polish fix, but its an obvious one. Especially when you consider the size of the maps, its hard to overlook that. So yes, they knew that bug was there, theyve seen it but theyve never had the time to fix it. And this game is already being shipped out. Yes it could very well get a day 1 polish patch (if the networking goes as planned). But the idea this game entered the shipping date before polish just worries the heck out of me, because theyve must of had some serious engine issues to deal with makes me wonder if thats the whole reason for the map sizes. That there is some major flaw with the glassbox engine.
