What happens when one city has multiple Mayors? That’s the question we answered by having six members of the Maxis team play the same city over a course of a day. The rules were simple: one developer picked a city and played for exactly 30 minutes. Once the time was up, another team member picked up where the last Mayor left off. And this continued until all six Maxis Mayors had a chance to play. Thus, the SimCity Telephone City is born.

One aspect of the game that I’m lucky enough to tell you about today is the Heroes & Villains set, which is bonus content exclusively found in the Limited Edition and Digital Deluxe versions of SimCity. As a devout comic book geek, when I think of cities, the first thing that leaps heroically to mind are all the familiar cities associated with each hero. It would be a huge disappointment to me if we didn’t provide a way to get that same kind of experience in your own cities in SimCity. The Heroes & Villains set gives your city aid with the heroic MaxisMan or embrace your inner heartless villain and wreak havoc with Dr. Vu. Even more exciting is to do both at the same time and enjoy the tumultuous tussle of these titans of technology in the mighty Maxis manner!

In previous SimCity's, the grid controlled spacing and orientation. In the new one, that job is handled by roads. You use roads to structure your city, to space and orient your buildings, to set up transportation networks and to give it shape. Pedestrians walk on roads, cars, trucks and service vehicles drive on them. Power is carried by them, sewage and water travel under them. Buildings are snapped and oriented to them. Roads are the connective tissue for your city.

Good day to you, people of the world! My name is Ross and I’m a balance designer here at Maxis. If you will allow it, I would like to share with you how I mayor. I will do so by building a city that is all about oil!
