I've found every vanilla sc game to be repetitive at a given value/density level

The steam looks fantastic! These recent screenshots/images are very encouraging. I'd pre-order it right now if I could fill a 4x4km map with curvy roads and modular ploppables!

There's still a lot of work to be done on the textures - still looks like plastic world.

Guess that is how they can get 700K people onto a tiny map.

Yeah, same way as in SC4. Every SimCity has required you to build skyscraper forests in order to get high single-city populations. If you ask me the game is looking very nice. This is a game where the city building focuses more on what is happening in the city itself, rather than "let me clear this continent and cover it in subdivisions".

Indeed. Wren Insurance anyone? :) If they open it up to custom content creation, the issue of building repetition will fade just like it has in SC4.

Really? I think the residential and commercial buildings look great (well except the casinos, but casinos are supposed to look cartoony).

With a lot of the industrial ones though, I tend to agree.

Amazing pictures. :golly:

But I seriously hope those road will get some decorations, like benches, hydrants, trees, small billboards, road signs.... that will be awesome. :D

Well, everyone can hope :uhm:

So, was yesterday a blue day? The most recent screenshots look as though they had been processed with a blue filter. An earlier batch looked as though they had all been processed through an orange/brown filter. What next? A swamp green filter? A barby pink filter?

Lighting changes depending on the time of day I presume.

BTW, I don't think I've seen a discussion about the time scales in the new SC yet.

The pictures keep getting better, the colour tones are steadily improving, though in some pictures the buildings look really cartoonish. Though I really liked the pictures of the mayor's house and that dirt road... The haze in the distance is a cool touch; probably helps to reduce graphical requirements!

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

It's probably just me but the new screens look surreal and uncanny. I think I liked the cartoony with clean, bright surfaces was more attractive and worked better with the tilt shift. The three screen caps above look... fake. It's weird to me. Hard to put my finger on it. Think it might have to do with the shadows, the dominating blue-gray overtones, and a sleepy dreaminess caused by too much blur too close.

That tilt-shift effect still needs to be lowered though. I can see myself getting a headache from it after just 30 minutes of playing. I definitely love the screenshots they released yesterday though.

In the Sims 2 Seasons, there was a color filter used in Winter (pale blue), Fall (orange), and spring (I cannot remember, green?). In the Sims 3, colors changed with the time of day (with sunsets being yellow-orange-red) and the Sims 3 Seasons added weather or season related color filters as well. Therefore, I find it natural for there to be tinted screenshots. These tints were probably done in game.

Also, I am pretty sure that Guillame said that depth of field and blur could be altered in the graphical settings.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I really wish the green between the buildings and the road would go away. It looks like the makers of the buildings forgot that they possibly should make like something up to the road or something. It looks really weird. Especially with higher tech buildings

I don't mind the parking strip in the roads. However, I think it would be better if it could change with the occupants.
