With all due respect to those who get more and more enthusiastic, I don't find these new pictures more attractive than what I have seen earlier.

First of all, I can't help thinking that what I see is practically the whole size of the "city" and there won't be much more. That space - not much more than there

Here's the view from across the river - I've built a bridge over here, but haven't zoned anything yet. #simcity pic.twitter.com/JSXyy2id

- will gradually be filled with high-rises, and that's all.

Then the roads - such solemn roads everywhere, but the buildings look like they'd perfectly live long with smaller and more modest streets. The streets/roads/etc variety of SC4+ makes the new game's stuff look so poor.

The shore line looks absolutely not better than SC4 or even SC3000 (and if the new game gives me no better, then why?).

And again, it all looks better only at dusk or at night, but at daytime it's so dollhouse :-S

I see hills in the background there you won't be able to build on.

I actually like that aspect. I'd prefer a soft hillside landscape on the horizon to a city square floating in a blue grid/void. It's similar to what they do in The Sims 3.

May I ask where all these screenshots come from? Are they just 'scribbles' from some dev's testbed or are they supposed to show 'real' gameplay and development?

Why is nobody showing different types of roads and streets, and gentle curves? All I keep seeing are horrid sqared grids that don't seem... well, organic at all. Most blocks seem to have more plastered ground around them than space to build homes... And the road networks look kinda 'foreign' and unconnected in all the pics, like some cutout placed on top of everything.

Or is it still too early to expect more natural looking images?

First off, hello Simtropolis. I joined before but for some reason it didn't work and here I am again. Also I would like to say that these aren't new screenshots actually. There has been a lot of new screenshots on the simcity forum topic: http://forum.ea.com/...st/9177584.page

They are new screenshots, posted between 8th of January and today on Ocean Quigley's blog. Here http://oceanquigley.blogspot.com

I think it's supposed to be the 'real' gameplay.

Removed off-topic and out-of-place statements. The repetitiveness by some is becoming a distraction again...

Also, as best as possible, please be sure screen-shots are new and haven't been presented before. Thanks.

This is starting to look like a complex town creator for the sims.

EDIT: Whoops, missed a page there. I'm referring to the industrial screenshots on the previous page mainly, although much of my observations also apply to those immediately above my post, now that I've taken a look at them.

Concerning those factory names, I think you can calm down. They are probably demonstrators for testing and tweaking.

Is it me, or is there a serious colour shift in these last pictures? I don't know if that is due to different weather conditions or if they toned down the lighting. In any case, I think itlooks less radioactive now, although the colours may be a tad cold now, with a blueish hue to them.

Some of the industrial facilties look quite nice, although they still have a slight toy building vibe to them - this is probably because industry is often spread out and characterised by larger buildings: warehouses, factory halls... tanks, silos, and gas holders are probably still coming, because these would also add to a varied and interesting look of industrial areas. So far, industry also seems to be focused on old brick buildings. I wonder whether there will be tilesets or building styles, and I also wonder whether these will be applied to industry as well this time around. As much as I like brick factories, a warehouse clad in corrugated metal doesn't sound bad, either... or a modern cement plant, or similar stuff.

Textures still look like plastics IMO. This is particularly visible in the industrial buildings, where the general architecture as well as the colour suggest bare brick walls, but the smooth and shiny appearance clashes radically with that. I'd really like to know in which stage the building textures are.

As for the lots, they have definitely improved. There are fewer and fewer buildings that stand alone on a patch of green grass, and that's good. Looking at these new screenshots, the industrial lots don't look like the yard of an industrial facility to me, but at least there's something.

One aspect I'm still not convinced of is the move to a free road network while sticking to strictly rectangular lots. You should think that if it is possible to make a road follow smooth curves and bumps in the terrain, then it would also be possible for the lot outline with a generic, "endless" filler texture and a fence to follow smooth road curves, filling the available space completely and eliminating those awkward blank spots. That was something that annoyed me when I saw the first Cities XL screenshots a while ago, and it's not that different now.

What happened with the colors in the new screenshots?? Why are they so dull? i like the colorful pictures of the earlier screenshots.. Some people complain, that the new sim city looks too ''toyish'' but i love the new look!

The buildings look like paper models, which i like very much... there are enough city simulations, which try to look realistic (namely cities xl and simcity 4), so no need to copy this. i can't stand anymore these people who complain about the new look. Maxis, dont listen to these people, i like the new look.. make it colorful again please... it looks cute and fun... like some theme park or rollercoaster tycoon 3 game, which i like very much.

and these words are from someone, who played almost every sim city game (sim city 1, sim city 2000, sim city 3000, and sim city 4)! make it colorful again!

It looks grey now! washed out! no good...!

What's the point of having curvy diagonal roads...if all building plots have to be rectangle?

Could that building really not have a car park that touches the back road allowing for a second entrance? Who owns that patch of grass behind it? And why when surveyed and subdivided did they not include that patch of land?

New screen shot has been posted on Facebook!

Fair to say that roads are looking really nice and so is building variation! I'm loving all the colours now and the tilt-shift (being a photographer myself). I think they need a writer to come up with store names though instead of "store". It's probably just because it's still in alpha but I hope they do. In my opinion it looks very american styled and I hope they have building style option like cities xl had!

To me that doesn't even look like a town. It just looks like a 4 year old threw down random buildings. I mean, who lives next to factories THAT size?

I'm not saying Ocean is a bad builder, but man, those tiles really do restrict what you can build.

And how much do you want to bet that "city" has a population lower then 4,000? And it already has tall buildings.

I think the cities would look good if there were more textures available for the given models. Maybe have a rusty red brick, a brown red brick, a grey-red brick, a grey-brown brick, a grey-pink brick, a tan-pink brick, a salmon-coloured brick, a sandstone masonry or tan brick, etc. Because having half the city being orange brick is not so pretty.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3
