For some strange reason, when I am in My Content and sorting the threads that I've started, it's not bringing up all the threads that I've started.

I was specifically in there to search for my BAT thread, which was begun during the incarnation of ST5...is there a delimitation that the software is imposing, in that it cannot find or display much older threads?

I noticed the emails NonnyMoose is speaking of.

Madhatter106, I also noticed that, in a forum I am not sure if it is an old problem or a new one, it was in Post your pic, where you post a pic or yourself, the Admin at the beginning said it was a continue of the old thread than it had a link and the link was dead.

It appears that no search I am capable of doing will yield forum post/thread results earlier than mid-April of 2010.

Which makes seeking out the earlier stuff much more tedious.

I did a forum search for the word "drive" ... pulled up a few posts from as far back as 2003 to yesterday.

On the search results, you can select to sort the date in "ascending" order to see all the old ones frist.

It's a while since I've been active here and can't recall what the last version of the STEX I used was. So the following comment may not relate to this latest upgrade.... I've noticed that we used to have two pictures for an upload, and the left (or first) one became the thumbnail view which you clicked on to see the download details. The thunbnail used to be the top (182 px from memory) of the left image. The new thumbnails seem to just take the middle 250x250 chunk of the left picture. In my case I used to put the lot picture on the top left, but often show custom queries in the lower left portion...

steximages.jpg

The option to select either the middle or top, and which of the images would be nice. I can't see myself going through and updating 99 files.

Forum search may work, but I'm talking about the My Content option for me.

When I got to My Content, select Forum, and use the drop down menu of showing only the posts that I have started, I cannot get my BAT thread to populate the list.

Nor can I get it in the list of topics I have both posted in and started.

It's strange.

Hey guys, I really like the new design, it just still feels very different. But I guess I'll get used to that!

The only thing that bothers me so far is that in a CityJournal you can't just click from one entry to the next (like a next-button). Maybe there is this option and I just haven't found it yet, but if not, it would be grear if this feature could be added because it's much mor comfortable

So, I just noticed in tiny text beneath My Content.

"(Search limited from March-12 2010)"

Why does "My Content" limit only within the last (exactly calendar) year of my content, and where can I go to fix or change this limitation?

There are no buttons or menus or options listed anywhere in my profile to change this...

The strange thing is that this limit is only imposed on my forum content - my STEX listings are fine, and reach back to the first one I made (in April 2008).

I'm intrigued how this new points (Simoleon) system works. The number of Simoleons we now have doesn't correspond with our original points total. For example, some people who previously had thousands of points, now have zero Simoleons. I previously had about 3500 points and now I have 105 Simoleons. Will they be useful in anyway, or will they serve the same purpose as the previous points system?

EDIT: It seems to be fixed now. ;)

Yeh, some tweaking on this will be necessary, no worries. We won't make you go through and edit 99 files.

Yes, this is being looked into, you should be able to navigate from post to post at the bottom, similar to the forums, next thread/previous thread...

This is fixed, and it should now show all your content, no longer limited to 1 year.

Yes, there was a glitch with the importing of ST points, but they should now (mostly) be correctly converted to §imoloens. You'll find that those members who earn most of their points/simoleons from STEX downloads (ie. people downloading their stuff) will have a slight delay when their simoleons are updated because this is not tracked live for performance reasons. More details coming!

Well the streamline look of the site is nice, but the speed doesn't match. I'm not to sure about the CJ layout, really confusing to find an actual CJ and start from page 1. The 50kb avatar limit is a bit restrictive, in addition the flood control system on STEX search seems to malfunction, and where did all my points go? I would also like to edit my signature before 50 posts.

Other than that, ST 7.0 is a really modern looking site, and for it's purpose is better than any social networking site as well. Still a few problems to work out, but overall godd job Dirk and everyone else!

Sorry, but I don't agree with you concerning the file size limit for Avatars. You should bear in mind that these are displayed on every forum page, so it is in everybody's interest that they have as small a file size as possible. I just checked your own Avatar, and it seems to have ~2.4 kB, which is both perfectly fine and a rather typical size for such a small image. Using the PNG or GIF format with reduced colour depth (32-bit true colour should rarely be needed for such tiny pictures) should enable everyone to reduce the file size to well below 20 kB without any perceptible quality loss.

In any case, I consider 50 kB to be rather generous. Imagine everybody used these 50 kB to full extent: At 20 posts per page (which is not that much), this would result in your browser having to d/l nearly 1 megabyte of graphics only to display the avatars! (In practice, it would most probably be slightly less whenever one user posts several times on a given page.)

Generally speaking, I like much about the new look in the forums, but I reckon it'll take another month or two until the site runs reliably and smoothly.

A little suggestion about the smileys: In the long run, it would probably be a good idea to sort them by expectable usage frequency. For example, your average :) or :D will probably be used far more often than this one :* . Hence it would seem logical to me to move those smileys towards the top of the list, where they are quickly accessible without scrolling. Of course, this is only a point of minor importance, I just wanted to mention it lest I forget about it.

Oh, and TYVM for looking into the Friends List issues.

So where do you see this? I do have a new link in the profile ('Donate Simoleons'), but when I click it all I get is a little green flag 'Loading', which just fades away...

    We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. I have a slight visual impairment (besides being monocular) and I would ask that the density on some of the button texts be upped by five percent or so. Very light gray on white is very difficult at 10% or less for me.

    Of course, you could always change to standard "windows" buttons, and have black on gray.

    How are you coming with skins choices?

    Overall, I like this new software very much. From the reload time, I gather you have also switched data base packages, which is probably a good thing. I have always preferred B*-trees myself because they are capable of very quick searches on partial keys. If you have any interest in this type of data base, the article that is seminal is in an old JACM for sometime in the mid-1970s. The title is "The Ubiquitous B-tree", I actually managed a project that produced such a data base, and it was 100 times faster than the one we were then using. If you look this up, be prepared for a lot of math. The whole thing has a rigorous proof. There were two PhDs in math doing the programming on this.

    Let me post this before I forget...

    All the mosaics on the CJ section (I guess that all over ST this happens) are ruined because the pics don't stack exactly one after the other, like happens here [link]. The system forces them to separate; and, even though this separation is very short, it ruins the mosaics. Any ideas on solving this? Do we CJers have to do something special to make them to appear stacked properly or is that a system issue and we can do nothing?

    Adding to the mystery, in the SLB signup thread there is no gap between lines of small logos (like you want for a mosaic), yet there are gaps when you use larger images with the same formatting like Tekindus said... :???:

    The new homepage looks fantastic and is really dynamic. It's much more informative than the old one, and I like the feature with headlines and pictures from CJ updates and STEX uploads.

    Good work and completely worth the waiting time!

    I really like the new homepage. Looks great, modern, intuitive - the works. For the site as a whole, I realize I'll have to spend some time getting used to the new lay-out, especially the CJ section.

    Great work on the upgrade, the result is really mindblowing! :ohyes:

    "1 User(s) are reading this topic"

    Boy, I thought that kind of programming went out some time in the 1980's. There is obviously a variable that could be tested here, so:

    If (nusers == 1) then

    cout << "1 User is";

    else

    cout << nusers << " Users are";

    cout << " reading this topic" << endl;

    This is the kind of picayune thing that shows how much qualify assurance has been done. It may seem picky and stupid, but in fact what you are looking at is a first or second year lazy programmer. I would not allow my students to get away with this. If your programmer claims to have more than a year or so experience then he has had the same year repetitively.

    I wrote this in C++ so we would all understand it. I am sure that whatever language this site is written in, a similar construct would be there. I could write this in a lot less code using the query operator, but it would have been hard for non-C programmers to understand.

    The new home page looks great, but I have one question: where is the Omnibus?

    It is being converted one article at a time.

    Yeah, how about we get everything working before we go changing cosmetic code that comes with the software package, eh?

    We'll have to see where review of proposed new articles fits on the to-do list but we always like to see new tutorials.
