Uh oh, I think some of the commercial autospammers have already figured out the workings of the new forum, as two inappropriate spam topics have just shown up in "SimCity 4 General Discussion." See the obvious thread by valteloAntacheu and the inappropriate content advertisement in cyrillic by tocaangercuct. Similar content also shows in the "Recent Status Updates" chat, which may show us the dangers of allowing unmoderated public chat on the front page. I would be too scared to open those threads to use the report abuse features for particular messages, as there is no telling what other malicious code might have been slipped in with the spam, suggesting that perhaps a report abuse button for threads should also exist somewhere outside the specific thread and alongside the topic listing.

Edit...actually, after daring to try, I cannot use the report abuse button for the topic by tocaangercuct, as I receive an SQL error message. Ah well, the topic got removed soon afterwards. However, perhaps there is also a danger in allowing topic titles to completely use non-Latin alphabets, as users not familiar with such a foreign language would not identify them as obvious spam and might inavertantly browse into those topics, making themselves vulnerable to any malicious content.

In the meantime, the new layout will take some getting used to. It's seemingly very white with more-or-less similar text spanning across the screen, but then, when I slouch deep enough in the computer chair to notice up-down LCD screen darkening, I see that the subtle background colors and grandients become more pronounced. I find I like the darkened effect better, as all the different textual components running together on the screen become more clearly encapsulated and separated into their identifiable components. Things like even the yellow/gold quotation boxes within messages look better and are easier to read as quotations separate from responding text if the background yellow was more pronounced.

Amusingly, the subtle gradient colors used are almost identical to the default glass on my browser, making the buttons and scrolls match my browser's buttons and scrolls, hehe. I'lll just have to adapt to recognizing which are which.

Other than needing to do some bot blocking, the whole works seems to be very good now. An occasional slow response, probably due to bandwidth problems, but overall better than in the recent past. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

I just noticed, the font colours for chat have changed from the old ones. If you had a colour before, you'll still have it now. However, if you change to one of the new chat colours, you can't get your old one back. I miss my blue.

So I figured I'd try out the new colours...and learned to do that before I speak. Found a new one I like...Sorry for the bother!!

Otherwise, no complaints from me. Except maybe that it could be a little easier to jump to the latest post of a thread before actually entering the thread, if you get what I mean.

I have noticed that I get intermittent "site cannot be found" errors when trying to access ST. Also, I wonder how one's CJ becomes "featured" or "Important" in the new section. Speaking of the new section, is there a way to go to page 2 and 3 and so forth? Oh, how come I have an avatar but my little picture (avatar jr) is a silhouette? How do I fix that?OK. OK, fixed that. But any idea why my flag counter works in the New CJ section on the ported over pages but not on the new ones? My current theory is gremlins...

Slower and bumpier than ever, but I guess this will be slowly taken care of one day. Took me freakin' 5 times to login, always get an error message.

I personally (I said personally....) don't like changes, no matter where or what. ( I even deleted Win 7 on my new computer and installed XP) I like it when things works fine and *seemless* and why change when everything does work fine indeed. Aesthetics I guess, not important though to me, I'm more of a practical fellow, looks are secondary..... and always problematic.

Anyways, I will get used to this as I have with all the other previous 6 and as anyone else. Looks good and hopefully it will work "bumpless" also one day.(most important)

In all, good job and now let's get down to get to know the New ST. (if it only could speed up a little)

Yeah, the space you have to store attachments has been cut. I previously had nearly a meg in there myself, but in my case some files were auto-deleted to bring it under the limit. Yours seem to have survived, for now...

Hi for some reason the forums is stuck on the IPboard default theme.

Once I log out the site reverts back to the original ST theme so I believe its something to do with my account.

I have cleared the cache and cookies and used a different browser but the problem still persists.

The drop down box at the bottom of the page says I am using "Simtropolis 7"

Initially, the profile settings allowed comments to be posted without approval, so I found myself with SiMHoTToDDy and Aaron_Graham as friends, because they had sent a friend request that was approved automatically before I logged onto ST7 for the first time. Now I like to have these two nice guys as friends, so this is no problem.

The problem is that after I changed the settings to post comments only after I approve them (did I mention I'm a hopeless control freak?), no friend request seems to have worked properly, or not in the way I had thought. You know, I have always considered the concept of friendship to be mutual - if person A is my friend, then I am person A's friend, too. However, all the friend requests I received (and approved) led to my name landing on the corresponding members' friends list (which is fine), but it didn't make their names appear in my friends list (which is not fine).

Especially since two friends already do appear in my list, this makes me look very snobby and unfriendly, as if I kept demonstrating "Oh, you? Well, you can add my nick to your list if you must, but I don't want to be associated with your filthy nick, now please get out of here." This, of course, is pretty much the opposite of what I had in mind.

Can anybody tell me where I might be goofing up or what button, lever, handle or switch I may have missed? Thanks in advance.

^ I suppose you already know where to change your settings for your profile, and if you're looking at the page, there should be a line that says: Show my friends in my profile?

Simply click on the little box to the left, and people (including you) should now be able to see your friends.

Ah yes... initially I had my friend setting on the default... 'free for all'... of course this means any one even people who you have no idea who they are can add you at random... which did happen.

So... I clicked the approve friend requests first button... and now, yes I have the same problem... if I then approve someone as a friend, no, they do not now automatically get added to my list in return.

At present I need to manually go to their profile and add them.

For the mobile version of ST: is there a "Jump to last page in topic" button? That would be an awesome addition if it isn't already there. It would save a lot of effort with regards to if you accidentally end up on the first page of a 200-page topic (if there is one ) and you have to scroll through every page to navigate to the last page of a topic.

Mobile phone used: HTC Desire, Android 2.2.

Oh, one other thing: can the Awards be put into a pop-up, rather than loading a totally new page like what happens now? Or is it not possible with the current forum software?
