uhm, is it just me or does the st the scroll down thingy at extreme slow laggyness? I am really wondering as this only happens to me on this site, regardless of the amount of pictures/text. I talking of scrolling speeds of barely 1/2 hand full of fps, while loading times for the content are about as normal as can be... o.O

I've heard of people having this problem on slower/older GPUs/CPUs and on netbooks. Is your system a little dated?

There's a lot being displayed the page, regardless of the amount actually shown, so a browser would lag trying to render all of it as you scroll. This is an issue that should be fixed in time as dirk tweaks the code.

core2quad q8300, 8gigs ddr2, gtx260... not exactly state of the art but neither dated in common sense if you'd ask me. recent games in 1080p on max details and smooth fps speak for themselves.

no difference in scrolling performance on my more on the dated site of life situated laptop (core2duo t5750,1gb ddr2, mobility 965).

thing is, this only happens on the simtropolis, every other site I can possibly think of, be it text only or blasted with pictures, does work fine. and like I said, it's not a matter of loading times as the content runs in at more than reasonable speeds

further, the simtropolis 7.0 ran fine until a few days ago when it was offline for work and since this date, I have this wierd issue which really makes it a pain in the behind to browse the site.

I have noticed this also in the last few days. The loading times are greatly improved, but scrolling down pages is much slower than before. Could this be due to the new background image (the black grid)? I have noticed some custom profile backgrounds that also have impacted the scrolling speed, similar to this (on profile pages). I'm not sure if the background image is the cause, but this seems a possibility since it was only recently added.

I have tested this on another browser and the scrolling performance is greatly improved. This means that some browsers may be more compatible with the background image or other aspect(s) of the site. The current background fits in well with the Simtropolis theme, so it would be a shame if it had to be removed to improve scrolling performance.

The background position seems to be fixed, and there's also a background on the container, which can usually create problems scrolling... This could definitely be a reason for the scrolling issue we're seeing here.

I'm curious though as to what the difference is between active post count and normal post count. Were some posts not copied over from ST6 and so they don't count as active posts anymore? That's my only theory :)

Regards,

Richard

There is a distinction between normal and active posts. I think it might have to do with posts that you make in non-public forums, or possibly forums that do not count toward your official post count might be defined differently... Not 100% on this one yet.

I think you might be right. I'm going to change background to not be fixed -- let me know if it still has those issues. If it does, I will have to remove it altogether, sadly!

Can you tell me what browser you used that had the laggy scrolling?

Just a note, that I am on FF4 on this build partition (UBUNTU 11.04 Beta1) today for the first time, and everything seems to be OK.

Well done!

On the scrolling, I thought it was just my computer; glad it's fixed, as it seemed really laggy when I used the scroll wheel.

Question - is there a rhyme or reason when viewing posts in the My Content section? Earlier it seemed that they were listed chronologically by last post, much like the forums themselves; nowadays, they are in some random haphazard order, which makes keeping up and current with threads I've posted in that much more tedious, especially if the post is in response to something I've said. Like I said, earlier it seemed like they were sorting and populating the list by date/time of last post - now, I can't figure out how they're arranged....is this a new bug?

They should be sorted by last post date. Mine is, and it looks correct... screenshot of what you're seeing?

Yeah, not yet as smooth as I'm used to, but a bit better now... Same issue on current FF and Opera.

I wouldn't miss the BG image - hardly see any of it, anyways... though a 2-color GIF would do the job as well ;-) It's all these little things that just sum up...

Here they are - as you can see, there's a bit of jumping around in the dates in the rightmost column...

It is good to see the scrolling performance is much improved now.

I have also noticed the default font size has been increased, is there a reason behind this? It may sound strange, but I think it was easier to read before (the same size as this).

EDIT: Font size is back to normal.

Font size is irrelevant.

I set my browser to use my chosen fonts on all sites, and it does. If you like the default, fine, but I have a visual acuity problem so I override it to Century School Book Light 14 point for serif and Arial Black for sans. One of the nice features of computers is that they will do as you say.

    I just zoom in.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

    strange_my_content.jpg

This is explained directly from the IPB Developers:

Ok.. There is logic to it, it's just confusing.

When you go to Find My Content, what you see is newest to oldest topics where that user has posted.

HOWEVER.. The confusing part is that the "Last Post" info shows the last post time in the TOPIC.. Not the last post time for the user.

    So.. An example..

I post on January 1st in a topic.. someone replies yesterday.

I post in Topic 2 In February.. No replies since then.

    That's going to show topic 2 - topic 1..

Which is right, Newest to oldest, based on my replies.

However.. Last post info will show February for topic 2, and yesterday for topic 1.

It's confusing.. Not going to disagree with that..

    So there you have it!

I think something is wrong with my profile (view my content...St Exchange). When I list my Stex files I have 14 items and some files are "missing". If I do a search for my name these files show but I have other bats not made by me also showing.?? I think I had about 20/21 files. Strange Edit:- I know it's fine tuning but I thought I would bring this to your attention. Good work so far.

Thanks for sorting that dirk. Just a pointer to a typo in this text.

It reads "if you meet meet the requirements"

I like the fact that the number of STEX files a user's uploaded is now displayed next to their posts. Will this number be also be added to the profile pages, down the left hand column or will there be a seperate STEX page within a profile? I know you've said your working on this Dirk and that its not a priority but I'm curious now as this has popped up :)

EDIT: Must just say I absolutely love the Stats page on the profiles. Never noticed that before so I'm not sure how long its been there but it's really cool and interesting :)

    Regards,

    Richard

the only one update that i do not like is having to wait for a download to finish to start another one, this really annoys me. I used to be able to download 10 files in under 3 minutes but now it takes about 15 minutes because i'm having to wait to download files.

    just my opinion though.

maybe concider getting ride of this "feature" or make it less time consuming.

    Thanks,

    SR

I'm not having any problems like this. I can download multiple files at once and at amazing speeds 2.2mb bixel file and 1.7mb bixel file at the same time took 3-4 seconds. Fastest the STEX has ever been since I've been at this site.

    Richard

That has nothing to do with the STEX, it's your browser.

    I just zoom in.

Well, I used to do that, but the site font was causing me to miss spelling mistakes when I had a screen width editor, so I changed to a clearer font.

Oh my, the cover is blown on the existence of an STEX file I uploaded!

    You've mentioned that upload before.

And now we know the answer to the title of that thread: points (or Simoleons, their ST7 equivalent) are for investing, donating, and spending on shop items that don't yet exist.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.
