It's great. But I miss the possibility to see who's in chat, now I could risk the chat being full of losers before going in. Oh well. 44.gif

I love the notifications...

I can be working in Photoshop or something, have MSN open, and see a popup that I got a notification. That way i'm never really off of ST. :D

How did you get your notifications to pop up outside of the webbrowser?

hey, the site looks sweet.

but...

1. the stex needs dramatic improvement, particularly with respect to thumbnail sizes. Perhaps a Youtube homepage layout would be better 44.gif

2. the site is slow. i can handle that as long as it is temporary. 43.gif

i hope more bat (mid rise ploppable) uploads 49.gif

Well, things are improving. The clock seems to be on CUT, however, since I am seeing posts in the future. I guess you will eventually use the user's time zone to date posts. If not, they should be clearly labeled as being Coordinated Universal Time, the abbreviation for which, we all know is Zulu (Z), which should be appended to all such times, please.

Whatever was done this afternoon has improved both response time, and the number of drop outs. Keep up the good work.

The answer to both questions can be found in your settings. Click on your name in the upper right of the screen. You should see drop down menu. Click on My Settings. Look at the options to the left.

On "General Settings", chose whatever time zone you like.

Then click on "Notification Options" and chose whatever settings look good to you.

Whatever was done this afternoon has improved both response time, and the number of drop outs. Keep up the good work.

Thank you. :) It was pretty much an all-nighter on Dirk's part.

Will check, but I thought I did that.

Anyway, Flagfox says the server is in the U.S. What happened, did Dirk move?

    Update:

You were right, it wasn't set. Is now. I am sure I set it before, but it may have been lost as it was very early on.

I see that editing works now, it did not before.

Not liking the new look at all. The site loads slower now than it did before causing time-outs [at least for me and I have super-fast broadband internet speed] almost on a continuous basis. I still can't find any of my files on the stex,

The links to my files no longer work, hopefully that's just a bug in the system that's getting rectified because I really don't want to have to re-link them again from the NHP map thread.

You might have missed my big memo on ST6 saying that signatures would be intentionally removed in favour of the new signature system as well, the HTML in your old signatures would not work here. I also mentioned that Awards, Icons and CMLs would also appear in due time. All previous forum, stex and city journal links should still work ... the server will automatically convert them to the new counterparts.

So far, my old links to CJs and such do not seem to be working. I will check back after more dust has settled. I am curious if in the new CJ section there will be some sort of summary where one can see how many posts and views a CJ has. My stats will be very sad if that feature is not available. I am still getting oriented to the new layout but I see we have made some good progress thus far. :)

It is also really cool that you can see exactly how many posts there are in a thread by th number on the top right of the post, that will help alot with the 10k thread cause we used to end up having to recount everything when one post is off.

Is there more BBcode yet to be activated?

Half the stuff I use for CJ updates (simple stuff like tables & justify) doesn't appear to work at all.

Yes, I was wondering the same thing. There doesn't seem to be an option to make tables or change the size of inserted images. Maybe these features will come soon.

EDIT: Also, I have noticed that the profile view count increases each time I view my own profile. As I view my profile regularly, the number keeps increasing and doesn't give a true representation of the actual profile views from other members.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I reinstalled my sig and added a picture (new feature) so now you can see the old buzzard. I note the site seems to have moved to the U.S. according to flagfox, and I suspect all links are broken because of the new URL. Will links b e scanned and fixed?

    1) When I visit a profile and click on 'Files' to see the items that person has uploaded to the Stex, I only get an abbreviated list (10 items)... shouldn't there be Page 2,3 etc. links?

    2) Can't get my avatar to show (tried to delete and re-upload, no go)...

EDIT: Okay, just see - the avatar shows here... but not on the dashboard (top right) or in the CJ section...

Okay, by now I've (hopefully) seen most of the new version.

I can really appreciate the tremendous amount of work you went through!

Even if some of the things like the web 2.0 look or the very bright color scheme may not be a 100% what I prefer, then again I figure it'll just take some time to get used to it - so I'm not complaining... Great job by everybody involved! :-)

Some valid things have been pointed out (like speed, Stex appearance, link colors etc.) and I'm very confident that these things will be improved... I know it takes a while to smooth out everything.

I just got one small request - in the CJ section, could you please add the feature which enables one to completely blend out (toggle) that overloaded right column? You know, with that little orange magic arrow at the right edge (like on the current index page)?

In my own CJ (and only there) I can close the blocks painfully, one by one... and as painfully re-open them, one by one... It would be really cool if the whole column could be toggled with one click, and in every CJ - to fully enjoy all the artworks without distraction.

    Sorry for the double post...

Up at the top right of the screen, click in the blue box where your name is.

    Then click on My Settings.

On the left, you will see a column of tabs

    Click on Notification Options.

Check the options that you like.

    Un-check the ones you don't.

We have a lot of options here. The trick is finding the ones that work for you.

Slower and bumpier than ever, but I guess this will be slowly taken care of one day. Took me freakin' 5 times to login, always get an error message.

I personally (I said personally....) don't like changes, no matter where or what. ( I even deleted Win 7 on my new computer and installed XP) I like it when things works fine and *seemless* and why change when everything does work fine indeed. Aesthetics I guess, not important though to me, I'm more of a practical fellow, looks are secondary..... ;) and always problematic.

Anyways, I will get used to this as I have with all the other previous 6 and as anyone else. Looks good and hopefully it will work "bumpless" also one day.(most important)

In all, good job and now let's get down to get to know the New ST. (if it only could speed up a little)

I'm mostly glad that ST is back, got worried there for awhile..... ;)

    Good Luck ST.

It's making me dizzy, although that's to be expected whenever something you've gotten very used to changes significantly.

I don't care for the whole social networking angle (if I want that, I'll go to Facebook; here, I just want a forum), but eh, use of those features is completely optional, so it isn't a big deal.

My feelings are the same here. I don't use Facebook, or Twitter. For me, those features are somewhat superfluous.

Overall, I can see a lot of work was put into this new incarnation of Simtropolis and I understand that a lot is still being ironed out. Keep up the great work!

My question is, it seems that I've used twice my "global upload quota", but I can upload files that are 4 times my "quota" ??

Used 1.03MB of your 500K global upload quota (Max. single file size: 2MB)

    Am I misreading this? o.O

I don't like the fact that you can't use search keywords of less than 4 characters. Which means that I can't search for 'NAM' 'NWM' 'GLR' etc.

And is there still a possibility to directly upload pictures (via imageshack)? I used that feature quite a lot. And do you still need to resize your pictures or does this happen automatically (and where's the right click-option in the reply-editor, I used that too! :P ).

So, only some minor things that bother me. The site looks good (maybe a little bit too boring and colourless?)

Bang on. If you've been around for every update (as I have ... :) ) you do see the very same things posted after every single update. Go through our own posting history, from each version to the next, there is always a subset of users who "prefer the old version" even though some or many of them complained about what was wrong with the old version and why it needed to be improved. It was the same song and dance when we launched ST6... almost identical.

Pleasing everyone is not possible, and we're not here to try. But there are certainly legitimate criticisms which I am taking very seriously. As I've said before, the STEX is an important part of the site, and its interface and presentation will be heavily worked on over the next little while. Don't panic.

I really should take advantage of the multi-quote feature. :)

I can just see it now.... dirks llama adviser popping up when he signs in to ST..... "your STims are complaining that site traffic is moving to slow..... "

Yeah, the space you have to store attachments has been cut. I previously had nearly a meg in there myself, but in my case some files were auto-deleted to bring it under the limit. Yours seem to have survived, for now...
