1. Well everyone else calls them frontage roads, and even here in Brownsville the frontage road is called "Frontage RD".

2. Of course it does, it was inspired by an interchange in Corpus Christi, TX.

Well, this is kinda i think my first upload, so lets hope it works. This is just a crazy interchange you'd never find in real life, but its fun!

BTW, love all of them, and haljackey, can you send me the links to some of the trees mods you use? and possibly the giant earth? THANKS

This is my first chance I've had to mess with the new NAM and RHW, so I went overboard a little (or a lot). Click for full size image (in new tab/window).

Triple, actually, and it won't even let me delete them. The forum lag causes me to double post almost every time I post 15.gif It took almost 15 minutes after the time I first posted before I could even see any of my posts at all. Don't know how that happened. Is this site slow to everyone or just me?

Here's a highway interchange, I don't know what it would be called though... I was trying to replicate the stack interchange that came with the NAM...

I promised that this time, my post will be with comments, so here they are:

DavidBrown:

Unfortuantely, there was no way for me to view your picture, there is no link shown in the post (at least for me) 15.gif.

psander5:

Wow, this must be about the most beautiful dumbbell interchange I've seen until now! And a nice rural landscape you're having here as well.

un1:

Interesting variant, I've not known this style before. But I think this must be a hell of an intersection at the end of the ramps, especially with the frontage road connectors. Maybe the performance could be enhanced by replacing those 2-way connectors with 1-ways (left connector northward)? This would clear up some of the direction redundancies.

selles:

A very creative combination of an avenue-connector and a highway split. About the curving one-way ramps, I personally don't mind them (actually, I use them frequently myself). It depends on the definition of 'realistic'.

For me (personal opinion, feel free to contradict me 3.gif), there are 2 kinds of realism (in SC4). One of those is the 'eye-candy-ness'. If you're going for that, then you should indeed avoid curving ramps. As Haljackey said earlier, they 'look' kind of odd, so they ruin the picture.

But there is a different approach to 'realism', and this is functionality. In reality, curved ramps do exist, there are even raised joins/splits, so why not build them in Sim City?. Sure, it may look a bit odd, but the main thing here is: It 'works' perfectly.

(I hope this made some sense ...)

bluemoose:

Thank you.

Good use of the underpass lots with the diamonds. Maybe we don't even need the lots anymore when (hopefully) a future version of FLUP supports RHW underpasses.

squiddster:

An unusual, but creative interchange. The weaving sections scare me a more than bit though.

The_Hutt:

I especially like the railroad going straight through the interchange area. Nice work!

teddybear2009:

Interesting layout of a highway, but in reference to the map it kind of fits nicely. Why are you using avenue bridges, they look a bit out of place?

Whisperedinthenight:

There seems to be something wrong with your Highway Restyling Mod. All those bridges and parts of the curves shouldn't be grey. Are you using an old version? You also should make sure that the mod loads after the NAM.

pagenotfound:

Nice interchanges, especially the diamond variant!

doorknob60:

For a first try it's really not bad. There are no ramps missing, nor are there any redundant ramps. Plus, it features no weaving. Some of the ramps are a bit unnecessarily curvy though.

Blue Lightning:

Whoa, what a mess 3.gif! But it seems complete. Every direction leads (eventually) everywhere.

wertopian:

You seem to be on a good start. Just try to smoothen some of the sharp turns in the clover leaves, they look a bit out of place.

R_Triacontahedron:

What you got here is a turbine interchange. Nice work!

Yukky:

I like the approach with the two curved highways. You are missing a ramp though. Coming from top right, there is no way to go straight right (in the picture), i.e. you can't left turn. Is this intentional?

shaylan221:

If you shorten the northbound online ramp to join the highway before the overpass, you may lessen the danger of the weaving traffic.

Now, I can't leave without putting some pics, can I 9.gif?

I'll start with some 'quick and dirty' pictures of some avenue splits and interchanges (sorry Haljackey: curved ramps). These are not meant as 'show-offs' but more as 'what does McDuell build when he has no ideas'. I hope you enjoy them anyway.

2 variants of avenue splits:

ic31-2Jan001235050683.jpgic31-2Jan001235050785.jpg

2 variants of 3-way avenue interchanges:

ic31-2Jan001235050745.jpgic31-2Jan001235050940.jpg

Nothing special? Ok, how about a 4-way interchange with only full directional ramps?

4way_Ave_FullDirectional.jpg

Now we get serious! The next one is kind of a hybrid of a turbine and a roundabout interchange. Although the turbine is replaced by a roundabout, there is no weaving, as all traffic enters the circle from right, and leaves to the left. So the traffic spirals inwards on the two lanes without disturbing each other. (Big image!)

4way_RHW_RoundaboutTurbine.jpg

Another roundabout solution connecting 5 branches to each other (big image!):

5way_RHW_Pano.jpg

That's it for today.

As always: Have fun 9.gif!

Gee whiz McDuell looks like you're living up to your trixie quite well!

And you're just begging to see raised one-way curves to be made. We have them for raised rail, but not yet for any road networks.

I really enjoyed that second avenue split, as well as your last two RHW interchanges. I'd call that a roundabout, because you can go around in circles if you wanted to. Excellent use of the new left RHW ramps to minimize weaving and El-MIS for overpasses. The last one is one of the most unique I've seen to this day, simply amazing!

I've been busy with other things these days, but I should show some of my creations here sometime soon.

    Keep showing us your interchanges!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

I'm loving the RHW-4 cross over intersections here. I've been tinkering with a design of my own, based on a local intersection. though the ramps traffic lights, its very compact.

McDuell, I love those interchanges, especially your 4-way interchange. I've been trying desperately to get one to work like that, I will definitely try it out.

And of course, haljackey, your transportation networks are always impressive. You're a pro with the RHW.

That has to be one of the most orderly messes I've ever seen! Does that make sense? No? Well ... anyway that cloverleaf really defines that island well. Nice use of ponds to fill in the dead space in the interchange as well.
