Someone has WAY too much free time on his hands! 3.gif Is that almost a whole medium tile? Personally I prefer smaller and more 'creative' layouts but the sheer scale of that monster is jawdropping enough.

A Rhw Interchange This is a picture of an interchange between 4 routes with a train line running through it. The reason the interchange is so stretched apart is because I plan to builf a huge urban area all around it

Wuh...Buh... What the...

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

.. But seriously, that's awesome! Now if there was only a situation in which that would be useful...

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Wow, that many reactions!

*hands smelling salts to all the fainted*

Thank you all very much 4.gif43.gif. *blushes*

haljackey:

I really didn't count the hours (days?), but the whole project has been going on since I finished my 6-way interchange, which was somewhere back in June. Since then, every now and then I had a try at this beast. I finished the final layout at one branch about 2 weeks ago; the rest was more or less pure iteration through the other 7 remaining branches.

The really hard part was the initial traffic routing for one branch to all others. As I never do sketches but always directly begin to actually build all stuff, the bulldozer was often the most used tool while designing. The two crosses (ortho-ortho, diag-diag) were not that difficult, but it was the remaining branches that gave me headaches and took me time to solve.

Zeddic:

Actually, you don't know how right you are 2.gif. Being without job since a while, I indeed have had quite a bit of spare time for building interchanges. And yes, this is a medium tile 3.gif.

rainyday:

Very creative and interesting interchange. However, it seems to have a flaw: You can't go from the lower eastbound to the upper westbound direction. After driving through the sunken loop, the traffic is forced to enter the other loop at the top left and continue to the south. There is however the possibility to U-turn back to the lower westbound highway (did this make sense 42.gif)

simsmart:

Maybe I should put a gas station and a  sign reading "Warning: Last stop before the interchange"? 9.gif

IDS2:

To be honest: I did, and more than once. All those times I had to bulldoze all those wrongly put tiles, along with additional, not wanted-to-bulldoze tiles, which I then had to clean up by creating still other newly wrecked up parts, ... (I think you got it 2.gif)

Again, many thanks to you all.

P.S. The next interchanges will be smaller ones and less complicated (at least I try 9.gif).

Oh, McDuell...  that is undescribable.  At the same time, it is giving me all kinds of ideas, but I know I would not dare to try something like that.  I'll leave it to the experts.

Here's a few of mine.

a4de0.jpg

This is the junction between the M8 Exton to Stansfield motorway, and the M46 motorway that heads through the Hambleton Hills.

a3ec7.jpg

Junction 8 of the M6 in Mortehoe, a suburb of the city of Exton. This is quite a busy commuter junction (traffic generators not included!!).

a2cc3.jpg

The M46 from the first picture is incomplete. The road between Crinnis and Woolacombe Bay, which would bypass the village of Croyde, has had some strong objections from NIMBYs and environmentalists, who claim that 15 species of rare newts could be wiped out if the road is built through their habitat. As it stands, there are currently two small sections of M46 that have been built. Above is junction 3, at the end of the southern section.

a1wl5.jpg

And this is junction 6, at the northern end. It is hoped that a solution can be drawn up and work on finising the road will get underway by the spring of 2010.

You need to have the Network Add-on Mod (which can be found here on the STEX, the downloads area) and the Rural Highway mod. The latter is locked currently because there is a newer version coming up. I'm sure someone can get you the current version though if you're very eager to get it.

The Hole Digging lots are very useful as well (they're on the STEX).

Take your time to read the readme files, so you know how to use these mods and start experimenting! That's the way to learn.

Another one of mine.

A stretched intersection one might call a double dog-bone.

Boycey08: The last two images are really old. I converted the old RHW shown there to a one-way road one tile before the tunnel, and reconnected it to a RHW on the other side.

in your 4th image you have the MIS transfer lanes, do they work in the current version of RHW or did you build them while testing version 3?

and the same question goes for the 4 laned RHW in picture 7, thanks for ya time and keep inspiring 4.gif

I haven't posted anything in this thread for a while(if at all), so I think it's time for a posting 4.gif

After seeing the interchange monsters on the last page, I decided to try my hand at making a 10 directional interchange(3 going East & West and 2 going North & South) and keep it relatively small by using loops(the sim would have to purposely merge off a ramp and onto a highway to get out of the interchange) and limiting the amount of ramps on and off a highway to a absolute minimum.

I believe I've accomplished these goals.

All images are thumbnails, click the image to see it at 800x600

(If you have a middle button/scroll wheel, click it to open the pictures in a new tab 2.gif )
