DTP: Thanks, and yes your textures are just awesome! I'm not really worried about the texture gap right now, so you take your time to perfect the patch.

Patricius: Thank you! I'm glad to have made something never done before!

For your next post, I do like your interchanges, but I do have one question: In the third picture, how are people coming from the avenue over the highway supposed to get to the start of the Vicksburg-Augusta Freeway? By the looks of it, the one-way road between the roundabout and the one-way that turns into the freeway is directed towards the roundabout with no reverse lanes.

IDS2: A farmer's nightmare! Interesting though.

thinboy66: Nice interchange...I just hate that you can't see which big dig tunnels match up right off since the network is converted to subway and you can make turns underground.

McDuell: Thanks! Yeah, I hate that about the sunken parts being too deep...I used the 17m road hole digger.

Nice interchanges with the avenues! I don't typically make avenue to avenue interchanges because I just don't like them in my cities for some reason, but yours are nice!

I might post another interchange later...we'll see!

McDuell

Interesting, but oh so redundant when you have roundabouts 3.gif.

BTW ive had problem with too deep sunkens as well, how deep should they ideally be? Thx.

Patricius Maximus: Nice interchanges. A pity that there is no possibility to convert diagonal OWR to RHW until now, this would be perfect in your half-Y interchange

cityhawk: Thanks 4.gif. I somehow like the avenues / OWR when creating new interchanges as they are the most flexible at the moment: 3 possible levels (with tunnels) and all kinds of orthogonal / diagonal overpasses. Plus, with the puzzle pieces you can make 'curves' while overpassing a diagonal OWR.

art128: Cool, can't wait to see it!

aking88: I know 2.gif. But back then it was the only possibility for avenue-compatible 'roundabouts' . I have more such experiments.

cityhawk + aking88: Puzzle pieces have a lane height of 15m above ground; so if you want a perfectly flat overpassing road (or other network), make sure that the sunken part is exactly 15m below ground. If there should be a slight sloping however, I normally use the 14m digger instead. Btw, I didn't know that you can dig 17m holes with the new holedigger set 42.gif (I'm still using the original one).

Sorry, no pics at the moment. The next post will contain something truly big though, I promise!

mcarch: slope mods. There's a pretty large selection of them downloadable at both the STEX and LEX. They change the maximum grade you can build on for all the different networks except RHW (many claim to, but I've tried several that say they do and actually don't, so just lay an avenue first to grade the slope, then lay the RHW).
The one I've found works best is this one at the LEX.

    Whoa, Nice job everyone!

I thought I may as well post a video here.  It shows one of the largest interchanges I have ever made.  Some of you may have seen this before either at my City Journal or on Youtube.

Anyways, on to the video!  Its a UDI experience you will never forget.

Wow. This thread has progressed into the 21st Century!

Haljackey, with the footage and the music (mainly the first 2 min) it seems like this should be the background for the opening titles to a movie. It's a really cool video by the way. That interchange is hmm... how should I put this? HUMONGOUS! Did you ever post a picture or diagram of it anywhere?

haljackey: Wow 6.gif. Awesome movie! And I especially liked the music as well, it adds much to the scene.

deathtopumpkins: I found the BIG picture in haljackey's link to his CJ. (>direct link to page 24< of 'Greater Terran Region' , scroll a bit backwards).

OK, I promised you something big, and now you get it 11.gif. This took me several hours and a lot of saving/reloading to build. It escapes my knowledge if such an interchange even exists somewhere in real life. I called it 'EDWIN' (Every Driver's Worst Imaginable Nightmare) 9.gif. Anyway, here it is, officially known as:

    The 6-Way-Fully-Functional-Complete-All-Access-No-Weaving-Massive-Interchange!

    Intersections-10Feb001213135494.jpg

Ooops, wrong picture 20.gif39.gif. But a nice example for an interchange gone all wrong 9.gif.

    Ok, here we go:

    Overview (big picture, 3240x1562):

    Ways_BIGb.jpg

    Each way is fully pathed:

    6way-2Jan001214575935.jpg

And for all those who don't believe the accessibility of all directions:

    6-Ways_Arrows.jpg

For better clarity, here are some more links:

    - Only path overlay

    - North - South

    - East - West

    - Northeast - Southwest

haljackey: I've seen it before. As previously stated, nice cloverstack! Yours inspired me to find out more and apply it to my regions.

McDuell: Wow! That is a 6-way interchange entirely composed of semi-directional ramps. Not unlike a stack interchange. By the way, the one pictured before it is a turbine variant  3.gif

thinboy66: He drew a street across the RHW width. Try it -- it'll work  2.gif

I have some of my latest interchanges to show.

Here is a parclo and a diamond combined into one interchange to prevent weaving:

    80369698sx3.jpg

A parclo interchange with one side diamond. There is weaving on this one, but it will be reconstructed soon:

    Modified double trumpet:

    26632206vd4.jpg

    Diamond interchange with a 10-lane Collector/Distributor setup:

    46713278qb2.jpg

Collector lanes diverge from the express lanes:

    93546920vu2.jpg

    A rather large Semi-Directional T interchange:

    18861505ub3.jpg

And lastly, a new cloverstack interchange with C/D roads that replaced an older full cloverleaf:

    That's all for now.

I've found why it doesn't work...

The avenue going under doesn't have the ramps going the same direction. Suppose the one going under is Ave #1 and the one going over is Ave #2.

If I were going north on Ave #1 and wanted to go west on #2, I could. BUT WAIT, if I were going east on #2 and wanted to go north on Ave #1, I can't. The orientation of the OWR is wrong. 2.gif

Oh, I didn't even notice it. Anyway, it'll be reconstructed soon, so it's of no consequence  2.gif

    Once again, cool interchanges everyone!

I decided to play around with a different kind of exchange, where I used collector lanes as the actual exchange. The main highway lanes keep going through. I was hoping it would look a little bit more uniform, but some miscalculations had me change a few things (mainly the windy one way roads). It is still very functional!

City2the Max: I think there are too many 90 degree curves. In RL freeway, catastrophe might happen!

My newest interchange(took up half of my city and have to use the longest tunnel I have ever built!)

Wow!  Amazing 3 highway connection McDuell!

    PM, awesome as always!

City2TheMax:  Geeze, thats huge!  Try to get rid of those sharp turns and it will look much better!

thinboy 66:  Beautiful interchange!  Looks great with its surroundings!

To answer some questions about my video:

-Yes I did have some trouble turning around at 6:20.

-About the music, the song's name is called "Storming New Caprica" by Bear McCraney.  A lot of his music is included in the new Battlestar Galactica tv series, including this one.

-Those turnarounds are made when you drag a street between the inner sections of a RHW.

I hope that helps everyone out!

Keep Showing Us Your Interchanges!  (Oh, and Happy Canada Day!)

    Best,

    -Haljackey

City2TheMax: A great interchange with the added bonus of C/D roads! Aside from the 90 degree turns, it's perfect. Although I don't know where I'd use it, I'm sure I'd find someplace 9.gif

thinboy66: Very nice, although I don't know the purpose of the MIS ramps that connect to the same roadway  42.gif

mitsos: A bit of weaving, but a great looking interchange  44.gif

I have some more of mine to show today.

Here is a nicely sloped avenue diamond interchange:

    97249504ms7.jpg

    A large and sloped Semi-Directional T:

    55158424bh7.jpg

Lastly, I present a monster interchange I created recently with little weaving on the collectors and none in the express lanes. It consists of a diamond, 2 partial cloverleafs, and 1 volleyball interchange.

    29924850jq8.jpg

Click on it for FULL resolution. As it is 1.3 MB it may take long to load.

Here is a diagram showing all possible movements from the north starting point and from the south starting point with both express and collectors. Paths are color coded for easier viewing.

    61345988fy1.jpg

    That's all for now.

    Please post comments and/or suggestions.

Thinboy66: Wow, that's huge! Very well done. Just being curious, why did you add that extra MIS lane at the corner (leftish-center of pic)? It seems that commuters would abandon the main section of highway as that is an obvious short cut.

Patricius Maximus: Once again, those are some nice exchanges! Personally I think the avenue overpass in the middle (second to last pic) might have been better as a tunnel (mainly b/c it's easier to build =P), but other than that it looks quite good. As for the last pic, it would be quite a bit easier to read if u could stop the lines when coming to a bridge (meaning don't draw over the bridge).

Hey guys. I've seen some interesting work here. But what I'm really looking for are the walls that can be seen in this picture on both sides of the highway. Where can I find these?

City2TheMax: I'll take the advice about the line drawing in the future. Also, I like long overpasses. They add a sense of realism, don't you think 3.gif

Here is a mosaic showing 2 volleyball interchanges hooked up with C/D roads and transfers with no weaving:

    1acw8.jpg

I'm restructuring many close interchanges like these with new C/D roads and transfers. They are of good use to have close interchanges with no weaving.

Please post comments, suggestions, and questons.
