Does anyone know if there's any asphalt pavement batching plants available for SimCity 4? I don't think I've found any to date, so I'm placing the request here.

:8)     I know that us in the NAM team are magicians of transportation infrastructure, but we still gotta get the paving materials from somewhere!!     :P

Such building should be an Industrial-Dirty (I-D) facility, which understandably don't get much love, but remain a necessary evil for SimCity 4's cities. Ideally, it should be available both as a growable lot, or as a ploppable lot with some CAP relief for industries.

These?

Specialized lots request !

Most released work for today are either american or european, skyscraper or commercial lots. Asia, south America are well served. Middle East there some desert and mesapotamia and egyptian lots or desert lots. Africa South African landmarks and some traditional lots like huts and mmp´s would be welcome. South and middle america with Walibuk and several authors well presented. Europe trraditonaly got lots of north, eastern europe, germanic, italien, slavic, spanish sets. Higher you get germanic timber houses are more replaced with giant traditional chalets houses  and hotels, these are except some basic models very rare !

Sample french chalets and there´s a swiss chalet station with some issues, great variety shape, size  ?

Enjoy !

I hope this exists, because I can't imagine with this creative community it doesn't.

I am looking for a small waterside boat dock.  Just the dock.  Don't need elaborate boats or ramps or road access.

What I really want is a small dock as an mmp.

Lots of searching has got me to this:

Close...but way over done.

And all I really want is the wooden dock...I want to paint boat docks to the shore of established residential neighborhoods.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

I'd suggest Murimk's waterfront packs, which have some docks that fit this description.

Thanks.  Those are better.

The problem is they are still lots that will require me to rework the entire waterfronts of multiple cities.

Ideally, if it was just an mmp that I could paint on the land/water transition tiles behind all the houses, it would work best.

It's funny because I only recently started using mmps for shorelines, adding debris and such...but a simple dock is not part of those tools.

This thread on SC4D and this thread on ST contain instructions for how to create MMPs, if you're comfortable using the Reader. Using this method, you could make an MMP out of an existing model, such as one of Murimk's dock props.

That said, there are a few issues with MMPs that can pose a problem for something like a dock:

  • When you plop an MMP, the orientation is random. That means you have only a 25% chance of the dock pointing in the right direction when you plop it. The easiest way to address this would be to plop the dock before using any other MMPs, so that you can bulldoze and replop the dock as many times as necessary.
  • If you're placing the MMP using plop water, you'll need to make sure that the MMP is modded in a way that allows plop water to be painted underneath the dock. With props, this is done by making the occupant size as small as possible. I don't have a ton of experience with MMPs, so I'm not sure if they follow the same rules.
  • If you're placing the MMP on actual, in-game water, the model will sink to the bottom of the water. Unfortunately, there's no way to make an MMP that stays on the water's surface.

Living in Los Angeles, dingbats have been a common sighting while driving around.  There's a great discussion of them in the movie Slums of Beverly Hills, where I first heard to term used.  "They promise the good life, but never deliver."

I have been tempted to model some of them, but they are very distinct, and not sure how they would mesh with other tilesets.  The trick is the garages on the ground floor fronts - if there are doors to them (which is not usually the case) and they are open, you need to model/include the cars and vehicles that are parked inside of them.  Or at least the portion of the vehicles that might be seen inside the garage from the various game angles.  Not an impossible task, but an extra consideration, and since I usually don't model vehicles (having only done a couple to varying degrees of success, at least on the quick cursory surface level), dingbats are something I have always set aside mentally when figuring out projects.

I am not sure I would classify the architecture of a dingbat as Streamline Moderne - I think they would be considered more Mid-Century Modern.  Barely.  They are so sparse, with the exception of their fancy names ("ooooh, the Casa Rivera") and a couple of winging ornaments on the front facade, just above that 1972 Pinto parked in the first spot on the right.  They would never have those great circular nautical style windows or curved corners that seem to typify Streamline.

Having lived in Los Angeles for more than twenty years, I've just realized that I never lived in one.  Driven by millions, been in a couple (oh they are just as depressing inside as they are on the outside, maybe moreso) but never signed a lease for one.

Great Stuff.

I am very new to MMPs, so that is all very helpful.

I guess then the only alternatives I have are to mangle my shorelines (this is all actual water, not plop) to add land tiles for lots like Murimk's, or find a water ploppable lot with a dock on it.

For Example...I used this a lot lately:

If I had a way to just turn it into a dock...one, maybe 2 tiles long so it just poked from the shore to the water a little ways, that's all I am after.

Crowded marinas are nice, but waterfront property should have a proper dock.

-------------------

I really need to learn to mod.  Always been intimidated by the tool sets, and awestruck but what others can do with it.

Have you checked this out?

You can pretty much make any size boat dock you want with it.

Since I was in Venice last weekend, I'd like to come up with a building from - Glasgow. *:P But the building was inspired by the Ca' d'Oro Palace and the Venetian renaissance style: The Ca d'Oro Building, 43 Gordon Street.

As @nycsc4 has pointed out a few weeks ago, more supermarkets for urban environments would be very useful. This example from Glasgow is quite a pretty one. It was constructed at the end of the 19th century as a furniture warehouse. Older pictures show it with a bigger roof. After a fire the roof was reconstructed flatter (and with a skylight) but I think this also suits the building. On the ground floor there currently is a Co-op market, a brand, which you can find all over Britain.

And here a drawing of the facade from the early days:

China Resources Tower finished in 2018, located in Shenzhen, China, designed by KPF.

It got the nickname "Spring Bamboo"(春笋).

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.
