I saw Art128 working on Tampere Central Station and got curious.  Entered Google Earth and foung these beauties among other interesting architecture.

This is Tampere University and Tampere Hall. A concert and opera hall i believe. Dont now why but I seem to have a thing for pristine white buildings...

Nice requests. I especially like the facade of the Prada building ... This and also the Tokyo buildings (luckily we already have a few of them on here) are good examples of how elegant today's architecture with all the glass, steel and light can be ...

On the LEX, zero7 already made a building with the name Louis Vuitton. It may be what you are searching for.

https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2372

Also, mattb325 made some Tokyo style buildings. Since these are more than one, you might want to check his profile to see what he has uploaded.

Don’t know if anyone yet has made PPG Place in Pittsburgh but this would be a good one, since @pippin brought up some other interesting ones.  I couldn’t find it if it’s already been done.

With this thread popping with ideas, I'd like to chime in suggest/request a couple of SimCity 3000 throwbacks - the Hans Hanelore from the Euro tileset, and Pagoda Plaza from the Asia tileset:

I was almost certain someone MUST have done PPG Place over the years---it is arguably Pittsburgh's most defining skyscraper, dubbed "the Crown Jewel of the Pittsburgh Skyline" (and itself resembling a jeweled crown). But after a search on STEX, LEX, and Google, I can't find a single take on it. So I heartily second this proposal as a missing essential!

By way of background (in my customary architectural historian ramble): PPG Place was part of the tendency of the major materials-manufacturing corporations in Pittsburgh (and elsewhere) to show off their products in their HQ. Alcoa used aluminum, US Steel used Cor-ten weathering steel, and PPG (historically "Pittsburgh Plate Glass") was no exception, using glass to its architectural limits. A truly unique landmark and gorgeous Postmodern take on the Neo-Gothic skyscrapers of the early 20th century (and in turn the castles and cathedrals of an earlier era) by renowned architect Philip Johnson. A fond favorite of every Pittsburgher I've asked about it. As for myself, I've always considered this building to be my mental image of what the fictional "Wayne Industries" HQ looks like... I'd love to see it in the game (especially by someone who can handle the exceptional amount of reflective glass and metal it features).

Bangor Public Library (Bangor, ME)

95014-ESTO-98A04.22_0.jpg

This is the public library for Bangor, ME, USA. I find it an interesting example of a library that's really quite good for a city of its size, not to mention it's an older building with a modern, more recent wing attached to it. The library is as good as it is mainly due to philanthropic contributions from horror writer Stephen King, who has a residence in the city. I think it would make a neat library for SC4; after all, we could always use more varied educational buildings.

Some more photos from Google Earth:

You can see the back of the library is built into a hill.

I love Scotland. I love Scottish whisky, Scottish salmon and Scottish biscuits. And some Scottish buildings are really nice too. Especially in Princes Street in Edinburgh. It is the city's main shopping area. Some of the buildings there are ... let's say interesting. And some of them are really nice, true beauties. A very nice corner building is 30 Princes Street. It is (or was) owned by Arcadia Group, known for their TOPSHOP and TOPMAN shops (and a few more). The building, in my view, is quite typical for the old business houses in that street, especially with the dark sandstone facade you can find all over the city. The facade has a lot of nice details like the heads that are looking down from the roof. I think it would make a nice addition to the game - and younger Sims would probably be happy to have one more affordable retailer in their city ... *;)

I'm thinking that there's some gaps in terms of water-related infrastructure. I would like some of the utility-oriented BATters to consider these ideas:

CULVERTS:

I'm aware of the PEG Pond culverts, but these aren't fully suitable for my needs because they already come attached to the pond water as a single piece model. I'm also aware of the Jeronij culverts, but those are also inadequate due to their size, they barely fit next to L2 (15.0 m) embankments.

Pipe culverts: with a selection of pipe sizes and materials (concrete, corrugated steel, corrugated HDPE/black plastic) and suitable for placement in flatter embankments, ideally for both the L1 (7.5 m) elevation difference, but also the L2 elevation difference. These would be overhanging lots with no attached textures, and if possible, these should be ploppable on water as well.

d0cbf4cc7d544cc191afafb9ef9f93bd.jpg

Concrete box culverts: with a selection of widths (1-3 boxes) and meant to be placed flush against an L1 or an L2 embankment. These would also be overhanging lots with no attached textures, and if possible, these should be ploppable on water as well.

MANHOLES:

When sanitary and storm sewers aren't placed along streets, they often feature manholes which slightly protrude from the ground. These can add realism along freeways/motorways, park areas, and sewer lines for large but otherwise isolated facilities.

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ2dtB99FoAiQ3fHt1BED1

STORM DRAIN INLETS:

It's well known that SimCity 4 doesn't experience flood conditions unless the player induces them with rain tools, but I would like to see some storm drain inlets for use in grassy areas and paved areas (parking lots, plazas, freight yards...).

POTENTIAL FUNCTIONALITY:

All these drainage elements could have a small effect for water pollution reduction, akin to a really small water treatment plant.

My bad, these are the ones I specifically mentioned won't work (the RRP instead of JRJ) because they require far too big of a terrain differential. I'd like pipes whose diameter would be around 1/2 to 1/4 those of this size, and also to have some variants with multiple pipes in a single cell's width.

I'd like to request the following lot:

Cafe Jumping Bean (sorry for image size, it's taken from an online source)

JumpingBean_StephanieKoch21.png

This building, like the Thalia Hall that another user requested, is located in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, IL. I always thought the building was very unique with the upper-floor sunroom window (and my profile picture is taken from one of their murals), and would love to see it in SC4. I know there are a lot of 1x2 corner lots by BATers like Spa and JBSimio, but I think this building would complement their work very well.

One building I would love to see created here is the Plummer Building in Rochester, Minnesota.

The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and served as one of the original Mayo Clinic buildings. It was built in 1928 and is a great example of a midwestern art deco skyscraper. There's some truly incredible detail all over this building, and in my opinion is one of the most beautiful buildings in Minnesota.

I've been playing SC4 since it came out, and have been on Simtropolis for almost as long (although I lost my original account sometime over these years), and for as long as I've known, one area that really lacks availability is the real stadium/arena genre. There has been a handful of stadiums/arenas created over the years, but the selection still seems lacking. I have never made buildings, I'm strictly a SC4 player, so maybe there are factors I'm not sure about. Some of these variables may include the following: Maybe building stadiums/arenas is a lot more difficult/challenging/time-consuming than creating other types of buildings? Maybe the pieces/props/whatever stuff (like I said, don't know diddly about creating buildings) doesn't include things that are key to constructing a stadium/arena? Maybe there's not nearly the amount of sports nuts that I thought who also play SC4 (like me, haha) on Simtropolis? Maybe the majority of those who do enjoy and make and submit buildings to the exchange just aren't sports fans? Anyway, this has been on my mind for a looong time, so maybe I'll get some sorta insight for my curiosity.

There are a lot of great stadiums and arenas out there, some with a long history, some new, state-of-the-art, some defunct or demolished, and some that are just really good lookin', but I'm surprised some of these (CAUTION: VERY LONG LIST, hahaha!) haven't been created and would love to see one or more of these made in the future:

National Football League (NFL) venues:
Lambeau Field (home of the Green Bay Packers)
Mercedes-Benz Stadium (home of the Atlanta Falcons)
AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys)
Soldier Field (home of the Chicago Bears)
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (home to the University of Southern California Trojans (college football), former home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Raiders, host of the 1932 &1984 Summer Olympics)
Arrowhead Stadium (home of the Kansas City Chiefs)
Mercedes-Benz Superdome (formerly named the Louisiana Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints)

Major League Baseball (MLB) venues:
Fenway Park (home of the Boston Red Sox)
Wrigley Field (home of the Chicago Cubs)
Oriole Park at Camden Yards (home of the Baltimore Orioles)
Dodger Stadium (home of the Los Angeles Dodgers)
Citi Field (home of the New York Mets (my team, Let's Go Mets!))
Yankee Stadium (the 1st or 2nd incarnation, not the present stadium, as its trash)
PNC Park (home of the Pittsburgh Pirates)

National Hockey League (NHL) venues:
Bridgestone Arena (home of the Nashville Predators)
Nassau Coliseum (home of the New York Islanders) (ugly but historical and beloved by Islanders fans such as myself)
Scotiabank Saddledome (home of the Calgary Flames)

National Basketball League (NBA) venues:
American Airlines Center (home of the Dallas Mavericks)
Bankers Life Fieldhouse (home of the Indiana Pacers)
Barclays Center (home of the Brooklyn Nets)
Fiserv Forum (home of the Milwaukee Bucks)
Golden 1 Center (home of the Sacramento Kings)

College Football (NCAA) venues:
Autzen Stadium (home of the Oregon Ducks)
Camp Randall Stadium (home of the Wisconsin Badgers)
Folsom Field (home of the Colorado Buffaloes)
Clemson Memorial Stadium (home of the Clemson Tigers)
Michigan Stadium (home of the Michigan Wolverines)
Neyland Stadium (home of the Tennessee Volunteers)
Ohio Stadium (home of the Ohio State Buckeyes)
Rose Bowl (home of the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) Bruins)
Sanford Stadium (home of the Georgia Bulldogs)

Historical/Cool Venues No Longer Being Used and/or Demolished:
Boston Garden (former home to the Boston Celtics (NBA) & Boston Bruins (NHL))
Joe Louis Arena (former home to the Detroit Red Wings (NHL)) *I may have seen this one on the exchange, will have to check
Omni Coliseum (former home to the Atlanta Hawks (NBA))
Montreal Forum (former home to the Montreal Canadiens (NHL))
Maple Leaf Gardens (former home to the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL))
Civic Arena (former home to the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL))
Chicago Stadium (former home to the Chicago Bulls (NBA) & Chicago Blackhawks (NHL))
St. Louis Arena (also known as "the Checkerdome", former home to the St. Louis Blues (NHL))
Stampede Corral (former home to the Calgary Flames (NHL))
The Forum (also known as the "Great Western Forum", former home to the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA) & the Los Angeles Kings (NHL))
The Alamodome (former home to the San Antonio Spurs)
Crosley Field (former home to the Cincinnati Reds (MLB))
Tiger Stadium (former home to the Detroit Tigers (MLB))
Shea Stadium (former home to the New York Mets (MLB))
Orange Bowl (former home to the Miami Hurricanes (college football-NCAA) & Miami Dolphins (NFL))

Congrats if you've read all this, I wrote a lot!

@SpogNYC

Welcome to forum posting, and that looks like a jolly good list of sporting stadiums!

I have moved your post to the BAT Request Thread from the Modding one, so those who have the BATting talent will be more likely to see it here. *;)

Just make sure to re-follow the thread using the option in the top right of the page. That way you'll be notified of new replied.

Initially it was the Modding Requests thread which is more meant for mods than new BAT or lot design ideas, but no worries at all.

It wasn't any trouble to move it over to here, and as staff it's why we have tools to help when needed. *:)

Hello, guys! Happy New Year! I wish you all a great 2021!

I'm going to show you some buildings and would like to know if you're interested in them or in something inspired by them.

image.png.2bc33f7890cc46e507c4a1aae269ea6f.png

image.png.660a6c892066380604822f381c558f54.png

image.png.78763523de7efb8a12a38fa4de4cdf0c.png

Those buildings are from my city (Goiânia, Brazil). They were built around the mid-to-late 60s following the first construction boom here, but started to decay a few decades later after the radioactive accident in 1987 which made people and business flee from downtown.

The crossroads where those buildings are located used to be a roundabout (you can see it here in 1972 and here in a postcard dating back to 1977) thus, they have a rounded corner.

go42677.jpg&maxwidth=800&maxheight=600

I'm showing you them, because I miss some roundabout-friendly lots, like this and this on Simtropolis or SC4Devotion, and every time I make an urban roundabout and try to fit a w2w on or close to it, the effect is not so good or realistic and I have to save a 1x1 space only for the corner itself. Overhanging 2x2 buildings like those in the pics would be great!

Tell me what you think! I can show more detailed pics if someone is interested.

Thanks in advance! Best Regards *:D

I agree with that, IMO we don't need more restaurants (although they're always welcome! *), but I'd love to see more McDonald's signs. They're quite nostalgic and the most recent BATs don't feature one!

I'd like to see more of this!

I dissent. I have been trying for several years to build out total replacement tilesets for historical-style play. While there are plenty overall, there are very few BATs of fast food / roadside restaurant architecture pre-dating c. 1980, and less than a handful of buildings from the 1950s or before.

Indeed, I have searched and searched and I can't find a BAT of the original 1950s McDonalds design (which was occasionally replicated at the turn of the 21st century). Here is the oldest surviving McDonalds, in Downey, California (outside Los Angeles), and which opened in 1953:

Here is a webpage with more images and commentary on historic McDonald's (page 1 of 2; see link to second page at bottom of first).

However, the Big Boy may be worth prioritizing, since I don't think there is a single example of one yet for the game. For references, here is a webpage with more images and commentary on Big Boy (page 1 of 2; see link to second page at bottom of first).

And if anyone is interested, here is the oldest Bob's Big Boy (built 1949) in Burbank, California:

Oh, I could swear that I've seen an older version of McDonald's restaurants like this one before. I was counting on it! lol But if it's not available anymore, it certainly would be great for those who like historic cities or CJs set in the mid 20th century.

I'm pretty sure I have a 1970s McDonald's in my Plugins folder, though.

After a deeper dive, you are correct. Thanks! There was indeed a 1950s McDonald's made a mere three months after the BAT software was released in 2004, (available here), and it seems remarkably well-done for one of the era, so I withdraw that request! However, I maintain that there are relatively few BATs of 1930s-60s roadside architecture, in particular CS$$ and CS$$$ (and especially when compared to the plentiful options for low-density CS ca. 1980-present). I am indebted to anyone who wants to help broaden the options in that space.
