Central Park of New York City

...okay, I know this is far-fetched and it would obviously be a very big BAT to make, lots of textures and dependencies.. BUT, since I gave up trying to learn the BAT and Gmax, plus my PC being the slowest renderer, and I am currently recreating New York City, I would just like to put it out here.

Yeah, I find Maxis' parks and trees very boring and making the lakes need precision just using the standard tools. haha, sooo yeah, I'll just be asking here if it is possible to BAT Central Park, maybe NYBT can do that, Idk. :)

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community: (Bold)

I think early 20th century buildings like this are very useful in simcity.  Everyone always likes adding some history in to their city, and these types of buildings fit the bill.  And these older buildings always blend into modern cities, no matter what style city the user is making, since all buildings from the early 20th century had this distinct look.  Also, this particular building has both orthogonal walls and diagonal, allowing the user to get creative in the placement of this building, perhaps simultaneously mimicking grid streets and a diagonal waterfront, etc.   Also, it is a very majestic looking building but is not too big, making it very versatile as far as being either a highlight of a smaller skyline, or blending with other hi rises in a larger skyline.

Hello everyone,

I have only 2 small requests:

1. could someone please could place this awesome BAT here:

onto a Version with the latest NWM? Especially 6 lane avenue and multi-one-way-streets? I know there is already a set available at the STEX, but they dont really fit for modern look-alike-cities. ;)

2. Can someone do an simple white plaza with 1 and 2 tile overhangings for underlaying elevated networks (streets, avenues, rail, etc) to cover the gras textures? Would be pretty awesome if this works!

Thanks in advance! :)

HI there, I would LOVE to get some Mega City 1 Mega blocks, particularly Peachtrees from the movie "Dredd"

85,000+ R$ residents

65,000 C0$ / CS$ jobs

HUGE amount of garbage

etc etc

Why?

why not?? I'm bored with the old, I want the new...  and 85,000 convulsing low wealth residents in one block is one heck of a meat-grinder!

as far as I know Peachtrees is some 1000m high and 200 storeys. You can see from the photo that it straddles two Motorways. I think the photos show the building in "Lockdown mode" but it would be good either way.

What say you BATters? you ready to obey The Law? or do you need some time in an iso-cube to think about it??

I think there needs to be an El-rail terminal, just something to end the line nicely.

Some more buildings that fit on a 45 degree corner would be nice too.

Download some park kits, and MMPs. You will get a much satisfactory result if you create it yourself.

Description: Cayan Tower

Has anyone done Cayan Tower yet?  I think it looks really cool.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/12/world/meast/dubai-twisted-tower/index.html?hpt=hp_t5

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

According to the CNN article, it's real, and open for business.  The majority of the BATs I've seen are straight up and down - there are only a few (Twist Co, Twist Tower, and McKepig Metropole on the STEX, and Turning Torso on sc4devotion) that are twisted.  This could provide some nice visual variety.

If any would like to create a pack (doesn't have to be a big one) of 1950's - 1990's buildings.

This would mean we could create a more modern city. The buildings could be fictional or 100% real, residential or comercial lots.

These would be some examples:

It would be greatly appreciated if someone would take this into consideration. I have noticed that these types of building are greatly needed for the game as this type of architecture is barely in the base game and not many mods have been released with this building style.

I would love if someone could do this,

  Alex

I am pretty sure a lot of those already exist.

can be a good starting point. Do look at the other files of the user, there are other downloads there. You could try to look for 'low-income' or 'apartment' or 'flats', 'commie', 'communist'. There is a lot to discover!

I alredy have alot of the stuff on the STEX :P that is under those search names but none of them really fit that kind of style, I haven't tried the LEX so far but I will in the future. Thanks for the help anyways! :D

Request: CS$/CS$$ Suburban Vertical Malls

2ft840T.jpg

To illustrate my request, I will use a "case study" of the little island nation of Singapore. Above is an image of 112 Katong which is a small suburban mall in the east of Singapore. I will provide more similar examples from the east of Singapore.

Such malls are called Vertical Malls in contrast to the sprawling strip malls and big box store format of malls. These are most commonly found in higher density areas where land is more expensive and thus there is a necessity to build upwards. I'm sure many examples spring to mind when considering Vertical Malls in city centres or other very dense areas. However, these tend to cater to higher wealth Commercial Services and will often have CO office towers as well. An example of this is Parkway Parade which is around the corner from 112 Katong (above). Such malls are not what I am requesting.

Description: My request is for smaller, suburban malls catering to low and medium wealth Commercial Services.

Below, I share the examples of Siglap Centre and Bedok Point. These are both smalls that serve their respective neighborhoods and are essentially a small strip mall compacted into a much smaller area. These illustrate the relative small size yet high density of services/jobs met by them as well as their regional and suburban nature.

LINK

Why would it be beneficial to the game or community?

SimCity 4 as a game is a very american game. As such almost all CS$ lots are very low density in terms of jobs/tile. THey also mostly only grow in low density zones.

When players attempt to build medium density settlements, it becomes ridiculous to zone low density lots just to create 3 CS$ jobs per tile. It is not economically viable, not good planning and not good cosmetically to create low commercial zones so as to meet CS$ demand in such cases.

A personal gripe of mine is that CS$ lots (more than others) seem to grow into lots that are mostly parking lots. In medium density settlements and in public-transport heavy settlements, this is even more frustrating.

But to the community in general, such malls will provide a way to provide commercial services to the sims (and thus CS$ and CS$$ jobs) even when creating higher density settlements. For my personal game, these will allow me to build the medium density suburbs as in Singapore (or UK) as opposed to the typical sprawling american suburbs.

A BATer may begin by creating 2 types of malls - one with more CS$ than CS$$ and the second with more CS$$ than CS$.

Stretch goals could be to add CO$$ towers to these malls and to create a mall with more CS$$$ than CS$$.

Further stretch goals could be to add multi modal transportation options to the malls.

A BATer fascinated by the larger vertical mods may even like to create the larger CS malls. I would suggest looking to CO malls for inspiration.

Grand Ole Opry House

grand-ole-opry.jpg

It is the country music stage concert in Music City(Nashville), TN that has presented the biggest stars of Country music.

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Grand+Ole+Opry+House&aq=f&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&sa=N&tab=wl

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

The sims can now visit the most iconic Country music concert stage in their city. They can now drive trucks and listen to Country music and watch Country music in live concert :D

Well in the real community, this landmark would help people(like me) who wants to recreate Nashville, TN. :D

Aquaculture lots needed.  Example, an oyster farm in the syle of the Basin D'Arcachon just north of the Gironde in France.

There are only a couple of these on the various exchanges, but I haven't been able to find any others.  I have this neat pool in one of my regions that reminded me of seeingt the one at Arcachon (France) which is also famous for its Pilat Dune.

It is a beautiful work of architecture, and at 850 feet tall, it's the 45th tallest in America, tallest in Oklahoma City, tallest in Oklahoma, and it's the tallest building between Dallas and Chicago.

someone should do the Wainwright Building. It's beautiful.

The building, listed as a landmark both locally and nationally, is described as "a highly influential prototype of the modern office building" by the National Register of Historic Places.[1]Architect Frank Lloyd Wright called the Wainwright Building "the very first human expression of a tall steel office-building as Architecture." Anyone up to the job of just some bog standard British terraces? There are some fantastic mainland European ones but hardly any central city-inner city ones on the STEX. Here are some examples:

Hopefully these have given some ideas. These would really add immense value to the game as they are the kind of building that can be repeated across large areas rather than a single-plotted landmark. SC4 is in short supply of British terraces and with so much variety and simplicity, more should be on the STEX. At least then I would be able to get back to playing SC4 more often.

Any help is much appreciated from one of the many fantastic BATters out there, Thanks.

County Sheriff's Department

Description:

Law enforcement buildings the supplement the Maxis police buildings with a slightly different flavor.  These buildings (and would be nice to have vehicles to go with it, but I'd be fine with just the buildings) are designed to cover entire city tiles (i.e., an entire county).  But I wouldn't want it to feel cheaty.

Essentially, I feel there should be a set of buildings.  The number of cars and number of cells would closely parallel the stats for the original Maxis police options, but the range would simply encompass an entire city tile.  Optionally, if it's even possible, you could limit the number of these buildings placed to just one (like some of the rewards work), because a county shouldn't really have more than one sheriff...

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

So, this would work perfect as an alternative law enforcement option in rural areas.  Additionally, it can work as a nice supplement to the city cops in urban areas.  Consider Los Angeles for example.  The city of Los Angeles is actually made up of several different cities all within Los Angeles county.  Each of these individual cities have their own police department and their jurisdiction is limited to the city limits, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is the main law enforcement arm within Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, in a city like New York, it's one city spread across multiple counties (boroughs), so there's not a single sheriff's department that covers all of the city.  So the main law enforcement body is the NYPD.

Then, there are the little towns with populations under 1,000 that may not even have an actual police department.  These towns rely on the county sheriff's department for their law enforcement needs.

I believe there are already buildings that serve similar rural purposes on the STEX (schools, hospitals, etc), but I didn't find a proper sheriff's department.  Ultimately though, I don't want these to feel cheaty.  The small police station has 25 cells and 2 cars to dispatch, but has a short range.  The small sheriff's department should have maybe 10-15 cells and 2 cars to dispatch, but an unlimited range... but it should also cost more to maintain than the small police department.  Large sheriff's department should have 30-40 cells and like 5-6 cars/vans and cost slightly more to place and a bit more to maintain than Large police derpartment.  Deluxe sheriff's department should have 60-80 cells, 7-8 vehicles, a chopper, and again, slightly more than the deluxe police department.

And then perhaps a county jail with like 1,000 cells, and maybe even 2 extra cars.

Mostly because I hadn't yet found it at the time I posted this.  This is about what I was looking for, but it would be nice if there was something like this with an even larger radius.  If not, oh well... this isn't an official request for one with a larger radius...

The radius on this building is the same as the largest police department in the game, which is far from an entire large tile.  I was looking for something with this sort of efficiency that would cover an entire large tile, but this one works good enough.

Changing any civic building's radius is pretty simple to do with the iLive Reader program. All you do is just open the said building's exemplar and change the radius to what ever you feel is best. You can even lower the funding if it's to steep for your rural area. Though changing funds is subject to the phantom slider bug if you don't bulldoze the old stations first and then plop the newly altered custom civic building.

The Reader allows you to alter any of the custom contents settings to your liking. So all you have to do is find the "building" that you want, and then make it do what you want for your city.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

Los Angeles has seems to not get as much attention in BATs as much as NY or the Chi. This tower is planning on being a focal point of sorts in the second largest city in America. It has a really unique design and a nice building to shake things up in future Downtowns by players.
