Now,  I never ever see 13 lanes avenue roundabouts like Arc-de-Triomphe in SimCity4.....

larc-de-triomphe-old-photo.jpg

Is that possible to make in SC 4?

I think it's not possible, there are not so many angles to all the avenues like in Arc de Triomphe.

Just a couple of small roundabouts and a three-way intersection.

I really like how the overpasses turned out here, I might use more of these.

Has anyone ever tried a roundabout in a roundabout?

tumblr_nrhv2dahLL1rhk4yto1_540.jpg

Wow, that's redundant.

It's impossible as well, maybe it might be possible if you have good 3D-moddelingskills and make it into a BAT of some sort. But I don't know if that would be possible since I'm not experienced with designing. Besides, why would you? It seems kind of pointless to me.

I just had to look it up. Apparently it's known as a Magic Roundabout.  People hate it but its supposedly good for traffic and safety.

Think I might try my hand at something like it in game, just to see if it is possible.  Though i agree it'd probably be a lot easier, and better,  to just make something you can plop in.

Having driven on one of the two prototypes (they never extended them to other cities) I can tell you the problem is that whilst the theory of such a roundabout is actually pretty sound (albeit complex), the reality of driving over it is as follows:

  1. Stop at roundabout
  2. Wait for a clear space
  3. Gun it and make it totally clear to others you've no intention of stopping until you are clear.

My brother can actually cite the correct traffic flow rules from memory for these, personally I see lots of confussed drivers just waiting to get into an accident because they can't think clearly when faced with such a complex set of rules on a roundabout type most of them are totally unfamiliar with.

You can string the Road 2x2 roundabouts together from the NAM and make a pretty good approximation of one however.

Time for another bump. Mine's nothing spectacular, but eh. Anything goes. Actually, what I really wanted to show off is the surroundings.

I love it, looks like a lot of the interchanges between avenues and the beltway here in Mallorca :D

Good job!

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

So when I initially laid out this intersection I meant to go back and rework it as it is obviously not an intersection that was fully reworked by the NAM team. This being a large city tile I kind of overlooked it for a bit as I was letting the simulation run a bit to see some growth in another area of the city. When I made my way back to this area I noticed the forgotten intersection and figured I had a traffic problem but in checking ...nop no real problem the intersection actually functions(mostly). The right side of the small stretch of Avenue in front of the Subway station (circular building) is the only route that is not working but the opposite direction lanes are working. Since there is a way around for the sims to avoid the non functioning lanes I might just go ahead and keep this intersection in my game, maybe one day the NAM team will clean this type of intersection up so we can better use in game.

Looking at this setup myself, I think the pathing may be an issue. You can turn right from to use the corner flanking the subway stop just fine. But coming from the diagonal avenue or the other direction, perhaps those paths are broken.

These pieces are quite complex and allow for 8-way Ave intersections, so the paths need to allow for a lot of potential variations. I'll try to take a look at it at some point, see if it can't be resolved. In the meantime, you could plop and avenue roundabout in there, which would work.

@rsc204  Thank you. I was hoping to avoid a roundabout at this intersection, would like to use a traffic light intersection at this location. Will probably be reworked for a roundabout. Question with my little knowledge of modding, does the amount of tiles that are part of an intersection affect the paths? For instance a roundabout is a 4x4 tile piece and the average intersection is a 2x2. The one above seems to be a 2x2 but there are 2 more offset tiles from the diagonal ave, is this what throws it off? Is it possible to make an intersection that has this unequal tile configuration?

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

Paths and the individual pieces are intertwined. Each one is only 1x1 tile in space, but multiples can be combined to create a large piece. This modularisation is how all such intersections or puzzle pieces come together. You can also re-use pieces, including rotating and flipping (mirroring) them. This is where the paths must all join up correctly in every possible configuration of a given piece. Otherwise you end up with some broken paths that will limit their function. So if there is an issue, it's simply that in some configurations the paths line up, but in others they do not. In this case, I think there just need to be some additional paths added here.
