Now that everything is down, how do I get the Toronto buildings that were for download on the Maxis site? :(

Do you mean the official lot exchange? I'm afraid this was taken down in around 2011, probably due to a decline of use.

All additionally released Maxis items can be found on the link from this thread's original post.

The good news is the range of content now available is far superior to back then. For example, spa has a good range of Canadian buildings, including some from Toronto. It'll be a big ask to make an lifelike recreation of a real world city (after all, this is a game). But by getting the main landmarks, it's possible to get somewhere close. Downloading generic buildings such as shops and office buildings is a good way to fill the gaps. If stuck, the CJ section has some great examples to acquire some inspiration.

Hunt around.  Try searching on Google.  Far as I know, there were never any Toronto Buildings made by the Maxis Crew.  You could look at some of the buildings by MattB325, Madhatter106.  Both of them are quite prolific.

Ah, okay. I saw a site showing someone rebuilding Toronto. The Nathan Phillips and Canada Trust buildings, he said, were downloaded fom simcity.com Exchange...

The main problem with the Maxis (Simcity.com) exchange is that it was unmoderated.  Full of viruses, many of them Trojans.  Not sorry to see that site go away.

Welcome to Simtropolis and back to the game! :)

Probably would've been better to start a new topic, but never mind.

I'm a bit unsure if you have the disks or just an empty case, but will try and explain some possible options:

If you have the disks, as long as they're not damaged, a reinstallation should be possible. You'll need to insert Disk 1 first to start the installer. Follow the instructions, entering your license code. Then about half way through, it'll prompt Disk 2 to be inserted. Click OK to continue, which will copy the remaining files. After this you'll need to update your game. Download the EP1 update, extract the installer to your desktop and run. Also, if you wish to fully utilise custom buildings, you may wish to install the BAT nightlights update.

Otherwise, if you don't have the disks, I'm afraid you'll probably have to repurchase the game. I don't think it's possible to redeem an original CD key with an online vendor like Steam or Origin. Instead, it's probably best to buy the digital version which doesn't require a CD to run, and includes both published updates. Personally I'd go for either Amazon, GamersGate or Steam. These will work exactly the same with no drawbacks, while Origin messes slightly with the installation structure (may affect BAT installation).

Hope this helps somewhat.

I'm never deleting backup files again. I hadn't seen these landmarks in years and thought they were lost. I'm really looking forward to working on regions-over-sync with some friends using NAM (never used it before).

Thanks to @Zelgadis for originally posting, @Craig_Abcvs for still hosting, and @meister1235 for pointing me here today.

Woot!

This didn't work for me either,, AGAIN, I tried everything. I;m stuck with a game that has a 1.1640.0 exe file with no real publisher and won't accept any type of upgrades.

I hate the fact I had taken for 20 dollars on amazon.

What is the point of playing a fracking game only to have it crash when you hit 100 k citizens.
that is called false advertisement, if customers knew this game would crash they wouldn't purchase it and was worse it that I won't accept any fix software.

Instead of wasting my time trying to make the new patches work which they don't I will just use my time in a more constructive time and track track down the amazon seller who won't accept a return, and shovel this game up his anal cavity so that this will never happen to anyone else.

You are (female dogging) in the wrong thread.  If you look at the Bugs and Technical Issues thread you will discover how to keep your game from crashing (mostly).  This has nothing to do with the title.

In regards to the updates from the screw pile website, what are the "texture problem fix" and "transportation update"?

The Texture Problem Fix was something that was available on the official MAXIS site, the information that was provided said

A few users have noticed problems with building textures in the game after utilizing the B.A.T. or downloading new lots with B.A.T.-created content.

the rest of the explanation is here

http://www.citybuilders.co.nz/index.php/cbex/viewdownload/8-sc4-and-sc4d-official-downloads/162-texture-problem-fix

as for the transportation update, it gives you a airforce base, a number of planes ie fighter jets, it also gives you a steam train, steam boat and a Model T car.

I think its worth having, but the airforce base is big and your city has to meet certain conditions before you are offered it.

I've been moving things around on the new site, the link above has been updated to the correct location

Just to let people know, I'm currently upgrading the CB Exchange here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cbex

The software is the same, but its gone up several versions, it does mean that in a couple of days once I've finished tidying up, there will be some changes but hopefully it will all make sense, the manuals are public downloads, the rest you will need an account to download them.

And the old SC3 and SC4 tutorials are here

A note for those looking for the Maxis files.

With the closing of the MobileMe site, the Maxis files have become a little more difficult to find. Fortunately, a couple of the members here have made them available at their own sites. See the links below for the Maxis files (including the two bldgprop files and the additional Landmarks):

Wait what? I can't find downloads for this. If I'm on windows, am I missing out if I have Rush Hour?

September 10, 2006: NDEX Global Essentials.dat now up with permission from SC4meister!

Can't seem to find this file?

Aug. 16, 2006: Landmarks which were previously available at the Aspyr site are now up! The Aspyr links were dead...

Which were these, Maxis Landmarks DLC? Do I need SC4Bat Installer and Update?

Just a hunch, but that's probably content originally included in the PC version. If you have NAM, even with the Maxis Highway Addons, it blows anything Maxis created (options-wise) out of the water.

Google search "SC4 NDEX Essentials" - first hit!

All of them are optional. SC4BAT is a tool used to create models for SC4. The 1.1.640.0 patch (if that's what you mean by update) is necessary to see night lights on custom buildings. If you have a digital version of SC4, it's already patched.

The Maxis DLC is still available. The only difference between MAC content and PC content for SC4 is the installer package. Windows installers don't run on Macs, likely this is just duplicates of the PC files, but in a more friendly Mac Package. To my knowledge, the entire official Maxis DLC is on Screwpile Developments site, if you've everything from there, then you should be fine.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

I'm pretty certain I gave @fredinno the link to the CBEX in another topic, but in case I didn't here it is again

and here

EDIT: Just looking at the above posts and it seems all these links are already listed, maybe its time this topic got redone with a list of sites that have these files I know of at least another three sites that have them

I've just briefly scoured the thread, you don't need it if you have the PC version of the game. Basically Mac users have drawn the short straw from the beginning and this was to add some functionality that was included in RH but never in the Mac versions.

My point about NAM is that the additional pieces it adds are far more comprehensive and worthy to have, even if you don't install RHW.

The game patches are only for the disc version of the game. If you need those they are installers and will handle where to go on their own.

The other files are extra content and they go in your Plugins Folder under SimCity 4 which is in your Documents folder.

As part of our ongoing reorganization, this topic has been unpinned. You can still post in it and the master list is the Index of Useful SC4 Resources - Look Here First thread.
