Catt@sc4d, Thank you greatfully.

I need HELP in a few questions, if you may:

1. The Landmarks are beeing installed automatically in the Programs/Maxis/Plugins folders.

Will they still be operational if I CUT and PASTE them in MyDocs/Simcity4/Plugins in a NEW folder of mine, in order to manage better my plugins folders?

2. Some of the Landmarks .DAT, when download, lose their NAME and appeared just as PLUGIN. I had to MODIFY their NAMES (Example: "ArcTriomphe" was just called PLUGIN) so I could manage the dowloads and instalation of the Landmarks. Is there a problem changing the Landmarks .DAT names for a more eficient organization of the plugins?

3. Some files like "America Flag Props", are just a .DAT file, contrary to others Landmarks that are .EXE (aplications).

Is "American Flag Props" and others not part of the Maxis LANDMARKS, or are they?

Are they part of another group of MAXIS downloads?

In what Plugin folder should I put these files (not .EXE, just .DAT)? MyDocs/...plugins or Programs/Maxis...plugins?

Can I just put them in a MyDocs/Simcity 4/plugins folder created by me?

Thanks

1. Yes.

2. The file name doesn't matter. All plugins are identified internally.

3. When a file shows up as a props file, it is actually that. It is for use by the Lot Editor to place decorations on a lot. They should be in your plugins file.

However, something worth noting. The game is set up for multiple users on the same machine. If permissions are set correctly on the Program Files section, any user can access the game. Simply launching the game it sets up the user area files including the defaults and an empty plugins folder. Maxis has sent the landmarks to the base files of the system which means that anyone who starts the game gets them.

By moving them, you disable the multi-user features intended by Maxis. Frankly, I would leave them in their default locations. This way, if you create a special purpose ID to run something like Sim Mars, you will still have them.

Some people never realize that most operating systems these days support multiple users. This causes all kinds of angst when a common account is used by several persons (in a family for example). If everyone has his own account, password protected, then no one not having admin permissions can disturb other users files.

So, perhaps it is not smart to change the destination of supplied plugins from Maxis. There usually is a reason to be unselfish.

Hi tocamacho

Sorry for the delay I only tend to visit Simtropolis at the end of the day (NZ Time), if you have any more questions posting on the citybuilders forums here

http://citybuilders.co.nz/index.php/forum/20-site-noticeboard/40-city-builders-exchange-cbex

will get you a faster answer, I see A Nonny Moose has answered you :thumb:

as for your questions

1. The Landmarks are beeing installed automatically in the Programs/Maxis/Plugins folders.

Will they still be operational if I CUT and PASTE them in MyDocs/Simcity4/Plugins in a NEW folder of mine, in order to manage better my plugins folders?

up to you were you put them, see A Nonny Moose answer

I use WinXP and it saved them (using the ArcTriomphe as an example) ... Plugin_003_ArcTriomphe.dat, as long as you don't change the .dat its up to you what you call them

3. Some files like "America Flag Props", are just a .DAT file, contrary to others Landmarks that are .EXE (aplications).

Is "American Flag Props" and others not part of the Maxis LANDMARKS, or are they?

Are they part of another group of MAXIS downloads?

I'm not sure why Maxis didn't make the Flag props, etc an EXE file, it doesn't matter as they are still .dat files and you can save them in whichever plugin folder you are most happest with, hope that helped.

Hi Catty@sc4d, thanks

One more info, the Landmark "Nam Dae Moon" from Maxis Files, is it for SC3000 or SC4? I doesn't appear on my Landmark controls during the game. I put the .DAT file with all the other Landmarks files in the samen folder, and it is the only one unavailable in the game.

Hi tocamacho

I've never heard of ""Nam Dae Moon" and I've been thru everything on the site and the original files looking, the only SC3000 file is a Landmark Pack and I plan on moving it to its own sub-directory so it and the others when I get some time to upload them won't get confused with the SC4 files.

But I would recommend that you ask these questions over on the citybuilders forums, rather than on Simtropolis as its more appropriate to ask questions on the site you are downloading the files from.

The official name of Namdaemun is Sungnyemun (the name used in the game), which is one of the SC4 landmarks. It is one of the Maxis files that comes as an installer, not a .dat, so it will need to be run to install it. When the installer is run, the .dat file is placed in the Program Files plugins folder, but can be moved to the My Documents plugins.

Note: The installed .dat file is named "NamDaeMoon"- don't know why... :???:

Thanks for that, its in my plugins folder as Plugin_009 so I didn't spot it when I was looking for NamDaeMoon for tocamacho

Thanks CaptCity and Catty@sc4d .

Problem solved.

I've played Simcity 4 since it came out, but only last month I am trying to add pluggins/mods and all that stuff.

I can say that it's a all new universe of dependencies, versions and mythic packs. It takes a while to understand how all this stuff works, and what's essencial and important.

The fact that you guys keep coming here after all these years, must be a proof of the quality of this game. Thanks a lot for the help.

Good evening to you all. I'm new here and I come see you. Problem for a personal encounter with sim city4. Since the installation of several pack for SIM CITY 4. Including the famous NAM. I lost the exchanger access to highways on the ground. How to retrieve? Cordially.

Ps: Also, I am having problems of creation of exchanger. With normal highways. That will create three access ramps, in correspondence with a road. But with an avenue, it's four branch.

If, by 'exchanger' you mean traffic interchange is sounds like you are having conflicts within your Plugin suite. I suggest you proceed as follows:

  • Rename your folder <user>/Documents/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Plugins to Plugins.old and start the game. This has the effect of creating an empty Plugins folder. Shut the game down.
  • Reinstall the NAM in the new folder (just use the installation .exe).
  • Start your game and check for the interchanges that have disappeared. They should all be there at this point.
  • You now have the onerous duty of adding back each of your old plugins one at a time until you find the one that causes the problem. When you find it, remove it and put all the rest back in your plugins suite.

I hope this helps.

Later: Sorry, bulleted lists don't seem to be working in this editor.

Yes, EP1-Update-1 and the BAT update will be needed unless you already have the updated version (1.1.640).

Here : https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?page=14 (The installer will install two programs, the BAT and the SC4PIM)

Another BAT, you will also need gmax (it should be installed first before BAT) and LE.

What is the 'Transportation Update'? It has something to do with Maxis' Transportation Bonus CD? I downloaded and ran it, and the system said that plugin was installed correctly -- but nothing updated in my SC4 plugin directory. I'm using SC4 Deluxe on Steam.

UPD As Air Force Base appeared on my buildings list, this file was a Transportation Bonus CD equivalent. But why do I now have three cemeteries on my building list? And how do I uninstall this update, just in case?

Since it is a Maxis update it was stuck it in the Plugins folder over in the system residency.  Feel free to move it to your user data area.  What you have found is what it is.

Maxis files (including SC3K) are also available here (need to be registered on the site)

http://citybuilders.co.nz/index.php/cbex

Hi Guys

This link to the SC3 and SC4 Maxis Files is being phased out, the downloads software has been replaced on the City Builders site, the two new links will be

http://citybuilders.co.nz/index.php/cbex-releases

and

http://citybuilders.co.nz/index.php/cbex-repository

Only registered users will be able to see and download files from either of these two areas.

NOTE: I uploaded the first 17 files to the new CBEX last night (NZ time) and made them open access (anyone could see them or download them), this morning found the 17 files had been downloaded 116 times by the same person, I have a reasonable amount of monthly bandwidth for file downloads but I can't support that kind of insane downloading by one person, so much as I might like the idea of open access its not going to happen ... sorry
