So, somehow I have become the ultimate lurker! I haven't opened 3ds max once in nearly six months, and haven't visited Simtropolis much either. When I have, I haven't bothered even to log in. I've flirted with ending my BAT career a number of times in the past (as Jasoncw knows only too well) but I never seriously thought it would happen.

This is by far the closest I've gotten.

Real life has hit me in a very real way this year, with long hours at work, and lots of social and family things to keep me busy. Then, starting in the spring, my laptop became very unreliable (and recently died on me completely). In May I bought a MacBook Pro, which I'm sure you all recognize stopped me from BATing, since 3ds max does not run on Mac OSX. I also hadn't installed the game.

All of this is sounding pretty dire, huh? Well, there is good news, and bad news.

The Good News is that I am back! Last night I installed Windows 7 on my Mac so I can boot up either, and I installed the game! Next step will be Photoshop, 3ds max, and all the little programs I need to mod.

The Bad News is that, as of now, I have lost all the BATs that I had been working on right before I got my MacBook. My old Dell laptop will no longer boot up, and I did not back up the last work I had done on Cadillac Tower or the row houses. I also did not back up the Davidson Block or 333 E Chicago, which both were completely finished.

I have no intentions of losing those BATs, so at some point I will see if I can recover my Dell's hard drive, but for now they are inaccessible.

So, that's the skinny. Hey guys! I'm back, and I've missed the game and this community! Hope everyone has been doing well, and I can't wait to get back to work!

First of all I'm very glad to see you back. Second of all shame on you! OH yes! SHAME ON YOU!!!! How could you even think of leaving us and Cadillac tower, well that was disaster waiting to happen, you had 99.99% completed bat and you just kept on prolongating finishing it. However, I'm glad you'll recover it ( I have a memory of a horse btw and WILL BE reminding you till you recover all of your BATs!!)

AND I WANT MY CAREW TOWER AND ITS BADONKADONK!!!!!!! Recover your BATs please asap! Sooner is always better than later! And please start working on something soon

Congrats on your new MBP! If your old Dell's HDD isn't totally scrambled or physically damaged you should be able to put it in an external enclosure and recover the data, even if the OS is toast. Check out a case like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817392014 before paying someone for data recovery, it can get pretty expensive depending on the size of the drive and other factors. Good luck!

Great to see you still around, don't worry about RL, nobody here is pressuring you to do any BATing in a hurry, we just appreciate it when you do have a chance to share.

Super hope you can recover the data, can't see it being too big an issue and I think it would be a sad day for SimCity if it never got to see the Cadilac Tower or Davidson block which I was especially excited about.

Vlasky: Oh my gosh! Angry fan mail! I'll just take that as a sign that I was missed. I missed you all too! I won't be leaving again any time soon.

PBGV103: Thanks for that link! For $20 that's a steal. I'll buy one soon and see if I can't recover my hard drive.

I can't believe you guys remember Carew Tower! The good news is... THE BADONKADONK IS BACKED UP!! So I can work on it again soon.

Other good news: Jason actually has the final version of the Davidson Block, since I was going to release it as a BSP project, so that's 1 out of 4 finished BATs saved!

This morning I got most of the applications I need installed on my laptop. Now I just need to set up 3ds max and BAT4max and I should be ready to go!

So I wanted to post so that people wouldn't start to worry that I fell off the planet again. I'm still here, still getting up and running. I installed 3ds max and BAT4max (thank God for SimFox!) today and have started a new project...

Don't everybody freak out now, I know it's incredible.

Now, the unfortunate thing is that day after tomorrow I'll be flying to North Carolina for a week, which means no updates on here, but I do plan to spend some time BATing.

To get back into the swing of things, I've started a new, modestly sized BAT:

I hope to get this done rather quickly, and then see what I can do about my other projects that were in progress before my hiatus.

So, this is a real building, and judging from what i saw in street view, a very nice one!

Well Nolan, i'm really curious to see how it develops...i'm sure it will look wonderful in game.

Aw shucks! I should have known that somebody would identify the building. So, I won't deny that this BAT is inspired by 20 N. Michigan Ave, but I do not intend to make a full re-creation.

Here's a current preview, and you can see it's starting to diverge from the building in Chicago.

I still have a lot of work to do, particularly tweaking the textures for the game and working on the back and the skylight, but it's coming along!

SimFox: I'm still thinking about how to handle the back of this, and will be sure to show a preview once I do something!
