In my opinion, this is the best soccer stadium I have seen here at ST. Yep, the first one has the best pavement, but that vortexed style at bottom still looks cool.

You're darn great at this DMScopio!

A great result for 2 minuttes work.

Had a look for the flags at simcity.com. The one I was thinking of was International Day of Peace Prop (found under, Cool stuff->Downloads->Landmarks & Props.)

Out of those two final visions of space around stadium I think first one is more ”justified”. But I must say that neither in my view is as interesting and impressive as the original one – it had such a bold original and dynamic design very much in tune with the stadium itself. But, well…

For the first one I think you should align the lawn patches with the vectors of those “bridges” Then the whole thing would look much more purposeful. Here is a crude illustration of what I mean by this:

Thank for the useful comments guys. i had just rerender the stadium(thanks to dusktrooper, now it got a nickname, the glass bagel). New night light and with goals finally. And as simfox pointed out, i will try my best to fix the overlay textures. those texture are from the WTC textrue pack, and is the best one that fit into the bridges. But i now i got the sc4tool, i think i can create a custom one for the stadium. Thanks again guys. i will post the result here when i got the texture right.

I have a problem with the overlay textures. I make my own textures in SC4tool and thay looks fine in the LE and SC4tool, but they just don't show up in the game. It is the first time using the SC4tool making textures. i got a .dat file and a .sav file generated by the SC4tool, and I have no idea how these files works. I am asuming the dat file is the textures, but what is the sav file for? anyway, Anyone have this before?

The circled texture shows in the LE:

And they also looks ok in the SC4tool:

But they don't show up in the game!

The fifth digit has to be over 4 and above. The texture IID 0xF260001A should be 0xF260401A or 0xF260501A ect....

I had the same problem at first.

Not that I'm against greenery as such , but I think in this lot it diminishes the monumental effect of the very structure.

There is strong reminisces between bridges leading into the arena to those in the court of the Forbidden City and grass is somewhat destructing from them by introducing very differently tactile element, Pavement of different color on the other hand create variance and bracing and braces monotony, but at the same time doesn't stand out to much as to brake single grand space into small, insignificant patches...

I think this looks just superb, dmscopio! But I do have to agree with SimFox regarding the lot. The grass does detract from the grandeur of the stadium. Whatever happened to the lot with the swirls of colored tiles? That was truly breathtaking!

TBH, I really like this lot, too, and it will look even better once you get the overlays figured out. But that first lot was truly spectacular. Regardless of which lot you choose, this stadium will find a home in one of my cities!

I think the lot is good, but I agree with SimFox that there is a bit to much grass... perhaps a little less grass would be nice... And maybe some more tress on the existing grass to sort of fill it up. Just my 2 cents. 4.gif

But either way, incredible job on the Stadium!

I'm with vester, I think the look of the grass better compliments the organic/natural appearance of the stadium.

But man is that ever beautiful. I'm stunned.

hm... quite a commotion here about the plaza look...

Well What I meant right from the start is that I liked the best the very first version with paved plaza with those swirls. "Organic" feel of those was very right for the stadium and materials were a very good match to the stadium itself. Sort of non symmetry of the design made it truly dynamic - very fitting for sport arena. It almost looked alive, in motion. This effect is what I miss most in new designs be it grass or this new pavement in same pattern as glass. DMScopio, I hope you wouldn't consider me rude for speaking my mind, or something, but they are (both new designs) are quite static and pretentious. Something what would be more at home in Versailles then in say modern Shanghai. I don’t want to put anyone down but I find it a bit too simplistic how people claim something to be this, or that. They see grass – grass is a biological in nature – hence it is organic, a bit too primitive... We are not speaking biology here, but design, art if you will. Somehow they miss entirely rigid almost set in stone (although actually in organic grass) composition. Unfortunately in real world this conservative, "scared" approach wins quite often – Architecture, especially on such a grand scale is an expensive, very expensive form of art. But this is rather a mark of inability to break from the bond of traditionalist bounds, inability to creatively transform them, bring them, or their essence to the new millennium. Way too many people are mistaking (in a words of Otto Wagner - prominent Austrian architect of XIX-XX century) Archeology for Architecture, hide in a comfort of replication.

Your stadium is truly remarkable but this plaza design is, although not bad, but ordinary - technically good, but artistically motionless and dead. If at all possible try to resurrect original swirls, if not it will do, but something will be a miss, such something that could be understood only when comparing two - for me it is a sign of true discovery, breakthrough.

BTW this is what I meant:
    r16da4.jpg

    PS

Also on purely practical basis… what is a capacity of this stadium – 60-80-100 thousand?? Imagine all these masses of humanity entering and leaving the stadium.

Herding them into those rather narrow paths (left by grass on the plaza) would also be unpractical and bad ergonomics.

But on the on the other hand it could be handy as to separate say two groups of fans(hooligans) about to “replay” the battle on the pitch…

Well it is very complex thing to decide.
But my vote definitely goes to the original swirl.

And I think you can perfectly render the entire thing, just make LODS stick to the ground really closely, then you could put other the BATED plaza what ever props (crowds, I presume) you wish.

I'm personally really anal about the ground being BATed, since shadows from other buildings and props will not fall on the BATed ground.

I also really like how the grass under the bridges could match with the LE base texture grass.

I like how the paths continued from the building with the LE textures].

I also like the colors and swirls of the original design, for the same reasons as SimFox.

So imo, I think it would be best to make a new set of LE textures that incorporates the grass, cement paths, and colored swirls all in one design.

But if the choice is only between the three things that you've already done, I'd pick the one where the pedestrian bridge paths continue off the lot.

As far as if the bridges are good for people flow, I'd say that they are, as long as the design of the insides of the stadium encourage people to leave through the closest bridge.  That way, the crowd would be distributed among all of the bridges, and I think it would work out ok.

I think the stadium turned out really well. 1.gif

Also, your renders seem really blurry.  I think you should re-render it so that it's less blurry.

@Simfox: Again, thank you for these suggestions. I don't think it is rude to apeak your mind here at all, in fact it is the opposite. I read them all very carefully. It is what this forum for, sharing ideas and progress. And the reason I went to a different approach from the original design is because of the rendering issue. Not sure if you recalled, I had tried rendering the stadium with the original plazza, but it gave me a code 30 error everytime. But later I found out it is the nightwindows texture that causing the problem, so I will give the orginal a shot for another render.

@Jasoncw: I don't think i can really come up with something new that intergrate all three designs into one. So i think I will pick one of them as my final version. but thank you for your comments.
