Then you have the issue of management at the big gaming companies (i.e. EA) which try to push the developers to get the game done by their scheduled release date, however unrealistic the dates may be. They have after all promised release dates to Wall Street. But in the end, they concede that the only thing worse than missing a launch date is releasing a horribly unfinished product. Delayed sales, or minuscule sales, hmmm... I think we all know what management prefers. (Look at Starcraft 2. Hopelessly delayed, but it was done right. And it ain't sellin too badly now.)

How do you build your cities?

I try to build cities organically, that is like how cities were built over history, gradually, and with a lot of redevelopment. While grids are much more efficient, I try and use them only in spurts and within neighborhoods, like cities actually grew. The most satisfying part for me is growing a realistic transit network that looks like something that would exist in the real world, and that usually means nonsensical meandering of roads, and complex intersections to boot. -

Mod, no, BAT'ed lots, yes, all found in the lot exchange. (well, here, or on other sites.) A question to everyone else here: (or two) Since I've been gone from SC4 for a while, as mentioned (RLS), is there any other places for good lotted planes? I.E. Second Q: I assume that double-jettied gates like raja_indy14 created were done custom in lot editor? Or did I miss a file somewhere? Likewise for other odd-angled gates, as we all know that airports love to pack 'em in. Third and final Q: anyone seen any DEW bridges created to date? Little stubby bridges, as seen here at MSP One of my goals with my free time this summer is create a realistic airport. Now let's see if it happens!

I love this idea. I suggest that this thread get stickied. My biggest concern: programmers. They are the lifeblood of a project, and you need enough that a core few don't get overwhelmed. I for one don't have any real talents to contribute, unfortunately.

I think, like many, the resounding answer to their question of whether the game will flourish will be a resounding "no." EA probably looked to find a new Sims-esque game that merged the Sims fans and SimCity fans into one game, and I don't think that they even chose the right developer to do that. EA really dug, and wasn't content for another traditional SC, and went for the blockbuster. And it did so swinging blind. Even from a financial standpoint I think they will lose. SimCity 5 would have at least brought in a predictable stream of revenue. SCS? You'll find it in those discount packaged EA/Maxis games. -

You may already know this, but an FYI: Dirk hasn't responded because apparently he's on some sort of unannounced 'vacation', as per the NAM-leak thread. Oh, and here's another request for the Metrodome. All it is is a roof and walls, all of which are almost the same all the way around the stadium. Oh, did I mention awesome work?

I'll give you two freebies. LHR's ICAO code is EGLL, and ILS stands for Instrument Landing System. Interesting to note that Heathrow is EGLL, while Gatwick is EGKK and Stansted is EGSS (Luton and City aren't that simple though.) In Japan, Tokyo Narita is RJAA, Tokyo Haneda is RJTT, Osaka Itami is RJOO and Osaka Kansai is RJBB. Hong Kong is VHHH. Pretty simple coding.
