Tankmank, a friend of mine loves those old, decriped, dirty buildings like those. He would say those buildings are awesome. I like them too, sort of the old vs. new, wealthy vs. poor.

I like these old town buildings too. they are part of the history of HK, reflect a different life style. I think buildings like this are very necessary for a city with depth in its culture.

The last 2 photos look funny. Wealthy looking business building next to poor residential buildings.

Wow, tankmank, those pics show exactly what is missing in SC4. The ability to create that look and feel... of slumminess. I guess we all need to get moving and make some low rise residential buildings. Oh well... Two and a bit months of school left and I will be able to BAT again.

Indeed some amazing pictures there ... the contrast is something you rarely see in pictures of Hong Kong ... it's all about the construction or new buildings or water front .. but those pics are beautiful due to the fact that they show the guts of the city in all it's ugly glory.

Changing the subject for a moment... jumping across the bay to Macau ...

    g117czip2.jpg

I remember seeing this proposal for a casino last year sometime... and thought, wow what an ugly casino and boo for approving it for construction. At the same time I thought ... there's no way they could build something like that, they are crazy!

    But here it is!

    wb070212051ka3.jpg

I'm still under the inpression it is one of the most ugliest buildings I've seen built, but what does everyone else think?

I like the bottom half, but I am not so sure about that flower tower on top. The scaled model looks so much better, there seems to be more edges and corners in the real building. Its not complete yet so I hope the finished product will look much better.

It is a beautifully designed building, although the tower stands out a little like a sore thumb on the side there.

More than a casino, the Oceanus project is a great complex that includes commercial center, luxury shopping malls and villas and a 600 rooms hotel in its front part. With over 450 000 sqm the Oceanus complex is announced as the biggest casino in Asia and eventually one of the biggest in the world.

The main building comes into the sea like a majestic ship whereas the tower springs towards the sky and becomes one of the highest towers in Macau.

It is actually supposedly already started construction and die to be completed in 2009... although I do not have any official word of this fact.

    Here are more stats ...

    Construction scheduled : 2006
    Area : 450 000 m2
Architect : Paul Andreu Architect Paris
    Project Manager: Christian Gay
Principal Architects: Roberta Affatato, Hervé Langlais
    Client : Stanley Ho, STDM
    Length : 452 m
    Height : 135 m / 185 m for the tower

Well I was thinking of it ever since I saw it for the very first time on the Paul Andreu's page - - there is plenty of very interesting stuff there. But the "beast" as you have put it is really huge and VERY location dependent. Structure like this simply wouldn't fit in the middle of the land. It has to stand on the shore or some such. Another thing is that although many pictures of it available they do mostly repeat each other without adding to the information needed to successfully recreate it. So it would have to be pretty much creating and not recreating it...

Marketing, marketing. Absolutely clearly there are more buildings in the background. I thought omitting buildings in marketing artist renderings was a North American thing, but HK as well?? And since when is Victoria as smooth as glass? Sorry, I had to critisize the artist rendering, not the building itself. BTW Simfox, when you work more on One Silver Sea, remember that there are large halogen lights that shine on each of the towers facing the harbour at night. I noticed this when I was in HK back in November. Also, can't wait to put that in my city!

I had sent a PM to "hkskyline" (the photographer) and ask him for support.

    Hopefully he can help us.

I'll tell you, if I get some news.

    Cheers

    Surumi

Edit: "hkskyline" is pretty fast. Unfortunately he is on travel and has no access to his main PC.

When he's back, he will check out if he has more pics of One Silver Sea.

Btw: Did you have the floor plans ? If not, I have them.

You can find them here: www.ricacorp.com/kln/onesilversea/floorplan.htm  incl. tower 1.

I don't know, if ricacorp is the developer or the marketing company, but on their homepage you will find information about Sorrento, Harbour Green, etc.

    Unfortunately only in chinese.

*uaaahh* while lurkin at Ricacorps site, I've found another beauty: Crystal Cove.

A real monster block of nine slim towers plus five or six beneath.

    Check it out: http://www.ricacorp.com/nt/crystalcove/mf.htm

I hope this is a place to place suggestions.

I would really love to see the ICC and AIG Tower in SimCity, the ICC being iconic, and the AIG is one of my favorites in HK

And HK BAT Team, your buildings are absolutely breathtaking, leaves me wordless!

Also, I'm quite inexperienced (try zero), so is there a place where I can find a "BATting for beginners" type of help file? I'm quite inspired to try to develop some BATting skills, and if I find it worthwhile, I hope to contribute!

Welcome to Simtropolis! Probably as you see in BAT request thread, the quickest way to get the building you want is to BAT by yourself. There are lots of BAT tutorials hanging around - try making small houses first and see what you can do.

    https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/categories.cfm?catid=140&forumid=1

Then, you can join whatever BAT team as an apprentice, giving updates on your BAT projects, get feedback, and improve your skills. Once you do 3-4 buildings, probably, you are officially a BATer :-)
