ha ha ... your BAT roots are very visible there!!

You take for granted one thing that you should be adjusting first (well not may be the very first but definitely BEFORE applying all the textures).

About set shot... I think it would benefit from camera being moved off center of the road and lifted from it as well. That will solve several problems in one go - make the overall composition more dynamic (it lucks in this department somewhat) and resolve emptiness issue pointed out by tankmank. Just putting things ON the road would do that - it would remain a large gap smack in the middle of your picture.

Then to the point I've started this message with. Light and atmosphere. These are the KEY for successful image. Sometimes even more then models themselves. Like in any graphical art form light should not simply BE there so you see something... it has to WORK to produce designed effect. As that design is the artistic part I guess it isn’t something that should be discussed here – it is fro you to decide on. But general rule of thumb is that both - sharpness and contrast should decline the more the farther the object is from camera That is a very powerful visual hint for the view to see the depth of you scene.  This could be achieved through many different ways - postproduction editing - when you edit different layers and then assemble them in some 2d graphic program of even in MAX itself but that depends on the version your using. In MAX 9 you can add distance haze right into your daylight system.

So place some neutral grey override material on everything in your scene and start tinkering with lights!!! Once you get what you want take a serious look at caustics – they would HAVE to play quite a significant role in the scene like this.

All in all this has a great potential to become a cover level shot!!

PS

Are you familiar with SLRs? if so think of you MAX camera just like it would be SLR - play with lenses! by changing them you can get very different results from same very scent and very same camera location and zoom levels.

PPS

what have happened to the shadows from the lanterns??

That school looks like it would be a great addition to the game. And the last picture looks weird! Those small apartments are in a very bad place amongst the skyscrapers.

Well I've got a few I think are ready or very close to BAT status, we'll start with 8 Queen's Rd. AKA the Sing Pao Center.  This commercial building is located in Central, HK, designed by Rocco Design Limited (www.roccodesign.com.hk/), it stands 142 m./467 ft. high accomodating 27 office flats, and sits on a corner lot with a small footprint of just 612 sq. m..

And the pics won't load...and there's 8 of them...hmmm...

That's Tin Shui Wai new town and an overview of the wetland park. I like that highway that circles the 'city of sadness'.

There are 6 towers I did already from Tin Shui Wai new town. Ting Heng and Tin King

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=18644

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=18617

placed properly they will form that far left wall of towers next to the canal

I would love to see more close ups of the 10 white towers that are located center and slightly to the left.

I love coffee and buildings.
