this is my attempt at a somewhat asian compact low wealth residential.

Something you may want to use for inspiration is actual floor plans.

While we really do not know much of what is going on with the actual building I always find the floor plans a great inspiration for design. This particular design is call the H block. There is also Y and Harmony Blocks or sometimes called the + "plus" Block. To ensure great detail I typically model each window as a unit, this would include a window (usually 3x3 units or smaller) the window frame and the wall that the window is set into and perhaps a AC unit. After I have created several 'Modules' I can position them in all sorts of patterns without actually have to think out a floor plan.

If you look closely at this picture you will see typical HK style window panes and window frames. Follow that similar design closely. Also notice the Facade is usually never flat because Pre-Fabbing has become incredibly popular in HK because of lower cost design, they can simply cast the concrete mold on site and fit it with windows and frame and then practically place it anywhere they want.

The newer 90s HK buildings often feature what I call extruded spaces or rooms, here is a great example of windows jutting out from the main building.

Another thing I like to do is texture last. Instead use interesting colors with the color picker to test color schemes of the model, thereby quickly changing colors to get a different effect. See Simfox's Non-Asian project and you will see what I mean. After you like the color scheme find or create textures that suit it.
