I started off here to gain access to the STEX, but it's now my home due to the great community atmosphere and forums35.gif40.gif35.gif40.gif

You have neglected the biggest reason.

Back in '03, SimCityCentral was the Biggest and the Best. Everybody went there because it was so. Then SCC went down, and everybody then went to SimTropolis because it was the Second Biggest and the Second Best. In the meantime, SimCity.com fell apart and everybody there came to SimTropolis, making SimTropolis the Biggest and the Best. Once SCC came back up, it never regained dominance, because it was the Second Biggest and the Second Best, and has remained that since.

That, incidentally, was why I joined SimTropolis. I had considered joining earlier, but I was only twelve years old, and thus waited until I was thirteen before I joined.

SC4 is a great game and the extensions provided here make it even better.

And this is my first post here so hello all folks.

Hello Hologram. Welcome to Simtropolis.

I put Other. The reason I joined Simtropolis is because I was looking for a forum or fan site to ask some questions about Sc4

I was just beganning to get into the whole forum thing at the time. This was December 29th, 2003. I just got Sc4 at the time, and the first day I got it, I went to Simtropolis. I remember going into chat and asking some $%&^! like questions. 18.gif

Then eventually I got really attached to this website and I dont think there has been a single time in the past 1.5 years when I have not visited Simtropolis when I am online.

This place is like family. I think I stayed more because of the nice people, rather then the game itself. Of course the game is huge part of it also.

Well..many people stay for the community, john. I have to say I have met some really nice people on my journey through the forums. I would like to name a few,Johnb,Cheese89,Cheese91,DudyConstructor,NitendoMaster128,Hello_SC4, thatmonkeysim and Superstar. That is the reason for my frequent visits to the forums and just the website in general.

I joined because I really thought this could be a super-swell place one day! 19.gif  I'm sure glad all these other people joined, too, because, boy, it was pretty quiet way back then... and the excitement of posting replies to yourself seemed to diminish fairly rapidly ... 47.gif

It's really cool to hear your reasons for joining -- even if it's just to use the stex. 2.gif  But really, no one joined back in the day because we were giving out free copies of the game!?  18.gif

Simtropolis has pretty much replaced my SimCity 4 game -- I still get to experience all the mayoral duties of makng decisions, delegating duties, providing for citizens, bringing down disasters (uhm, usually by accident, ok?) and building things so that all will come...

Well, you guys keep on coming, so we keep on buildin'!

But really, I'm with you guys, I can't imagine not ever having met all the people that I've met here...
9.gif

Free rubber duckies for the next fifteen minutes... 40.gif40.gif40.gif40.gif40.gif Go!

I made this!bzt.gif

I joined for the free rubber duckies....18.gif

Seriously......I could see a big difference in quality between the BAT's at SimCity.com and the STEX.  There was no question.  That was why I joined, I stayed because of everything I have learned about the game and the people I have met.  I mean, come on, I can't talk to my wife about SC4, so who am I gonna talk to42.gif

Back when the Lot Editor was rather new, I came here on a links omeone at Simcity.com gave, and found a lot of radically modded lots on the LEX that I liked. So I signed up and downloaded them. It wasn't until about a month later that I really started posting here (and stopped posting at simcity.com).

I mostly joined to meet other fellow SC4 players and to chat with them, and I'm very glad I joined! I have learned so much from entering this community, such as; how to deal with people, work in teams, organize projects, web design, how to not be a $%&^!, and finally getting me to be interested in the game community.

Without ST I don't think I would be as interested in the game industry as I am today. Everyday I try to find new updates for games, or look up how they made WOW, or try programming my own website. ST has been a great experienced.

ST has even taught me how to manage my time...

I couldn't have learned these things without ST and the community on my side. I really thank all of you, from my heart.

I wanted to gain acess to the STEX because I saw the sweet BAT's but I later got interested in the forums and chat. I think ST is the BEST.

I joined ST because my brother kept saying that I should join because it is such a great website and i would love it. So i decided to check it out, and it turns out that he was right, and ST is a really great website and i do love it. I have met so many cool people on here, and I've made a ton of friends...I've also had some cool experiences, learned so much, and gained some things that i will take throughout my life. At first i thought it was sort of weird that a website could do all of this to me, but I've gotten out of that stage and now i can't imagine what life would be like without the friendships and things I've done on ST. So thanks everyone 1.gif

Really looking at it, the main reason I joined the site was pretty since it was on the list on SC.com and I eventually got passed the donation screen (yeah, I know, but I didn't look at it enough to understand how to continue)

Anyway, through the last ..... year and a half (eh, give or take) I have found myself go from the bottom of the totem pole to becoming one of the people known around these parts for ..... various reasons. Duke with anime, Myles through SV, DT through ..... something, N747 through his CJ (I think), beyond the many others I have got to know. Joining the ST staff doing news on the homepage ...... when I get around to it 21.gif.

Overall, this place is just family to me and is like my second home in a second reality! Thankz everyone!

I can remember just wanting to make my own posts, to ask about how to get State 8 Skyscrapers (The Maxis buildings, because this was 2 years before the bat, and I am still loyal to the Maxis buildings) and stuff like that. This was in early 2003, when there only were about 3,000 members. Compare 3,000 to 70,000. 3.gif

There was no Simtropolis exchange then, no network addon mod, no lot editor, nothing like that. Just the forums and the MEX, and just those two were good enough back then.

I miss the old days. 10.gif

I remember your first city journal I think47.gif. I seem to remember that you had an awful computer and you had to have your graphics settings on low. Or maybe I'm thinking of someone else...

Yeah, my first three City Journals either had or started out with the low graphics. A lot of City Journals were like that then, I think, but there are very few now with low graphics. Back in the good old days when it took a week for an unreplied CJ to reach the second page. Now it takes about three hours.

I remember I joined about a little over a year ago because I wanted to be able to play the mystery city games and post in the Train Mods thread. Now those seem to have both lost their popularity, but I am sure still glad that I joined.

I would have put that in but I didn't even know that. I joined on 8th July 2003 so I think I missed that. And I will assume your birthday is on the 15th of march considering u waited until u were 13.42.gif

In general, I love reading how you guys joined and it's great 2 see that most people are posting and voting.44.gif

Sorry to break the monotony, but I joined a year and 8 months ago (roughly) becuase I was searching for a way to get a SC4 guide on Google. I got this guide/walkthrough from a certain thy451 18.gif and it sorta progressed from there until today. It wasn't to get BATs or anything 3.gif.

Funnily enough, until half a month ago, I would probably be reading this and saying to myself 'meh'. I've been lurking and absorbing all the knowledge you people have to offer (which is quite substantial 18.gif) for the past year and 8 months.

I've only been posting for half a month (since 4/15/05)...kinda sad...wasted time 2.gif But I'm catching up; 283 posts to my name and going strong!! 17.gif

Joined after I saw it on maxis simcity site and saw the great buildings and said I must have these all of them and 2000 files later I'm still downloading, now if I could only figure out BAT I might be able to do something of my own. I really want to do a build it your way air force base, maybe after I move to Florida for my new job.

I joined because I had a question, and the SC site, was no help at all. Now some days, I spend more time on Simtropolis, than playing SC4. Ive learned so much about SC4, from ST, and I learn something new everyday. Simtropolis is the best!44.gif

It started off that the EA SimCity 4 site was useless for downloads, and so I found this site. At first I was never going to post, and didn't even know how to.  I became a member to access the mouth watering lots on the STEX, and then posted for the first time. I was a $%&^! back then, but that was 685 posts ago 10.gif.

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

I have to agree with comdude.

Back in the days (in 2003, with another name) I never got my cities to grow or stay on budget so I searched for help and found ST. I didn't even know about SCC, still don't actually.

I came for the great turtorials and all the help I got from reading posts. Back in the days when Game Experiments was the most active thread...

Big thanks to everybody helping me back then, and now.

Then I just stuck with it, and with the STEX and all, I'm still here. Since I bought the game, I've only played like 20 cities, I just hang here all the time.
