That's a horrible time for anyone living on the other side of the world! I couldn't get Beta 1 or 2 to work in time to playtest, eventually found a workaround (origin offline mode) but too close to beta 2 cut off time. I haven't preordered and probably won't, as I have no evidence that the gold (final) SC will work on my machine. Maybe this 3rd beta will become a time-limited trial after the release date? At least then I might have an opportunity to see if SC is going to work or not on my PC (Ivy Bridge). The beta period this time is early morning here, so that's probably why I wasn't among those chosen.

I wonder if I'll be able to give the beta a whirl this time? I got a key for beta 1 but a bug with the software prevented me from launching it. Didn't even get as far as the start screen with server status! Maxis know about my troubles but I don't think there's been enough time to fix it. We will see, perhaps?

I guess this is a good reason to break the lurking silence! Has it really been 10 years? It doesn't seem like it. Perhaps because SimCity 4 is one of the few games that has survived this long? Anyway, happy 10th birthday, the big 1-0. And I registered about a month and a half later I remember ST 3.0 design very well, it was very colourful. I vaguely recall ST 2.0 but was either viewing as a guest or only freshly registered.

There is fine print on the Origin SimCity Chat page which reads: SimCity (2013) would be a preorder. That's why this particular coupon isn't working. Maybe there's another one floating about specifically for SimCity (2013)?

This seems like the most appropriate thread to mention this, but one of the earlier leaked concept images actually appears on the SimCity.com website in a more completed looking form. Well this will be interesting.. I wasn't successful in getting a key from the jointhebeta site, so maybe I still have a little luck. I am on the other side of the world to some of you, so it will certainly be interesting to see how the random release times will work.

One of the questions asked at the beginning was why did EA take over Maxis... I remember seeing the answer to that! Maxis didn't have enough money to market The Sims 2: Livin Large enough, and then EA Stepped in. I remember reading that on an official site somewhere. Ive managed to remix a lower quality version (with barely noticable quality loss on my speaker setup) and it comes to about 39megs. I am waiting on the_new_simman's permission before I post/upload my low-fi version.
