About This File

Census Repository Facility, version 4.0, as updated by Kel9509
based on the Census Repository Facility v3.5 by RippleJet
 January 10, 2025
With help from Null 45, CorinaMarie, and Cyclone Boom.

After 16 years from the release of RippleJet's Census Repository Facility v3.5 (since October 26, 2008), the Census Repository has been upgraded to take advantage of modern DLL functionality now available for Simcity4. There are also numerous fixes, one of them critical and some others identified by RippleJet himself subsequent to the release of version 3.5, which are now incorporated into the Census Repository query along with some other new features. The included readme has been revised to reflect the new fixes and features.

 INSTALLATION:

This package utilizes a Java-based installer (similar to the one used with the Network Addon Mod), and can also be opened and installed manually using 7-Zip or Keka.

To install it, you'll either need the Java Runtime Environment to run the installer--Adoptium's open-source edition is recommended--or a zip tool capable of opening the installer to allow manual installation. For Windows/Linux, use 7-zip, and for macOS, use Keka.

Once into the installer, after agreeing to the terms for the package, click to the Files tab to select which files you wish to install (you must select the files manually or nothing will install). To expand options, click the small "+" next to the name of the section.

Then, click to the Location tab to set up an installation location (this should be the root of your Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins folder). After this, click over to the Install tab, and click "Start installation" to begin the installation procedure. When installation is complete, the tab pop up a message indicating it, after which you are safe to close the installer.

To avoid conflicts, please, it is highly recommended to use any of the third party cleanitol tools and remove any previous versions from your plugins.
Optionally in the ~Documents folder in the main ZIP you can find a collective/master and separately all the individual cleanitol files and by using either the newer nos.17's SC4 Cleanitol or the older BSC Cleanitol tool you can search and remove old and outdated versions of these files.

Bear in mind that this Collection contains Prop packs only available with this upload. Those prop packs can be used and referenced by other contents may not part of this collection as dependencies. If a 3rd party upload references one of the prop packs available in this Collection, you don't need to install everything, you can select and install only the referenced prop pack. All prop packs (and the lot packs as well) have individual cleanitol files (besides the Cleanitol_Census_Repository_Facility_v4.0.txt) and they have Prop Catalogue index images as a help for lotters.

 DLL DEPENDENCIES:

In order for the contents of this package to display correctly by taking advantage of the new DLL Mods requires the complete installation of the following dependencies (the below listed dependencies are covering a full install):

  • SC4 More Demand Info DLL - You need it to get the mod working.

Compatible only with the digital version (1.1.641) of SimCity 4 (Microsoft Windows and Linux only).

 DEPENDENCIES:

The following files are required in order for the contents of this package to appear correctly and they work correctly (i.e., no "brown boxes" or missing textures)

 CREDITS:

The following members contributed models, textures, and modding support to this collection:

  • RalphaelNinja
  • RippleJet
  • Callagrafx
  • Colyn
  • Kel9509
  • Null 45
  • CorinaMarie
  • Cyclone Boom

This package has been made possible by the Project ZIP efforts of Tyberius06.

And to the community itself, we would also like to thank you for your support, making mods such as this possible too. We're still at it after 20 years thanks to you!

And last but not least, a thanks for the Maxis individuals too, for the [paid] work that they did. ;-)

I don't know how to get this mod to work, its too complicated
BSC Essentials v2024b seems not to be in version 9D

To be honest, installation is a maze and nightmare, I don't want to give it a 1 star review, so please help me out.

BSC Essentials v2024b is not in version 9D, because the documentation for 9D says it was updated to v2025b.  The new version in 9D is obviously merely an update to the prior version, and is still compatible.  You generally do not need to use older versions of dependencies unless there's a specific need for older versions.

As for the rest of the installation, what is the problem?  Launch the Javascript installer after extracting it, and follow the instructions carefully.  As per the installer's instructions, you need to select which version of the options you want.  For the Network, choose whatever Traffic Simulator version you have installed in the Network Addon Mod or use CLASSIC if you don't have the Network Addon Mod.  For the Query, choose if you want the expanded version or the regular size.

More information can be found in this support thread:

Note that the Installer also doesn't include links to optional dependencies, it only links required ones.

Anyway, hopefully that helps.  Let me know if you have any luck.  Lots of people were able to install it just fine so I'm sure you can too.

Thanks!! This mod is great! seems the essentials are installed automatically, but hopefully the author of this mod and the big package can come to a agreement that all necessary files can be included in this mod to no longer require external sources, also later I found I could remove the colossus files as they unfairly altered industry demand

Btw is it me, or is the CS$$ & CS$ display bugged? they both seem to show duplicate amounts?

It's you.  Those are different variables entirely, as you can see from the amounts shown in the pictures here.  One is $#game.g_tax_income_cs_low#, the other is $#game.g_tax_income_cs_med#.  Those variables come from the the More Demand Info DLL Mod, so if you don't have that installed properly those amounts won't show  up.

The Colossus Addon Mod is not required to use the Census Repository.  However, CAM does have the I-R fix that's needed to get the full amount of I-R demand info.  If you don't want to use CAM, you can install the separate I-R fix linked above (previously called CAM 2.1 stand permanent memo exemplar patch), or the renamed version - I-R Fix by Memo (it requires the Resource Loading Hooks DLL mod as well, since it's an exemplar patch. It previously required the submenu DLL mod but exemplar patching was moved over to the resource loading hooks mod).

I updated the dependencies to include the latest link to the I-R fix by @memo, as well as a sub-dependency for the Resource Loading Hooks DLL mod that the I-R fix requires.  Also, I threw in a link to CAM 3 Core for people who use CAM 3, since that has the I-R fix as well.

Hello all.

I've read an entire 5-page work in progress "diary" thread here in Simtropolis about the work you've done to build this mod - and I shall say this is absolutely stunning how carefully and scrupulously you approach every detail to it - from testing to naming things to reflect the data clearly.

I want to say thank you, @DeeKayOut for sharing your observations with the community; thank you, @CorinaMarie for vigirous debugging and testing; thank you @Kel9509 for putting it all together; thank you @Null 45 for contributions; thank you @Ulisse Wolf for translations; and of course huge thanks to @RippleJet for the initial mod, in the first place.

I haven't been posting to the community before as I didn't really think it was all still active and alive, but didn't bother to check. It is fascinating how a 20+ years old game is still in hearts of many. And given I've been a software engineer myself - bow down to you for the efforts once again, from your fellow almost-colleague.

That being said, there is another reason why I decided to reach out here. Basically, I came back to playing SC4 and, given I am an older guy now, I started to approach this in a more mindful manner. So I wondered - how can I check that my residentials and commercial/industrial demand/supply are in balance. In the beginning of the game we can seek that from the RCI, but later the demand is positive for both residential and commercial/industrial zones at the same time. But since I am using Cori's NKO mod I wondered - how can I know that I have enough medium and high wealth residents to fill the commercial and industrial job slots entirely. I thought - if I have toooo many low-wealth residents, and if I fulfill their demand with jobs, these jobs probably want to medium and high wealth residents as well (which I don't have yet). So I asked for help in Reddit. @Ulisse Wolf has come back to me and suggested I installed the Census Repository mod, which I did.

Then I pretty much realised I couldn't make sense out of data that it presents, and then I read everything about this mod, including, as I've mentioned, the whole thread about the implementation of the 4.0 version.

I kind of understand what the "Commuters or Vacant Jobs" means, and I understand why this couldn't have been separated into two distinct fields. But there are a lot of things that I still struggle to grasp. For example:

  1. What do the "3 months" and "1 year" fields represent? I saw the discussion that it seems these show the actual data that time ago, not the difference between now and then, however I saw some LUA formulas and there were delta values involved (now minus some time in the past).
  2. I still do not understand how the "anticipated regional growth" works. I saw in the readme file that if one loads the neighbouring tile (empty, but with the road connected from another developed neighbour tile), then the demand from another city will be shared with it. I've seen this effect in the past, but I didn't think about the numbers. But I saw some "10%" value flickering in the discussions. And also (the second point) that if I exited the city without waiting, then that demand disappears - can one elaborate a little what is meant by that? Do I need to save a newly established but still empty city and exit for it to disappear or I need to zone something first? I understand that demand disappearing is not a good thing, but I want to know how to replicate it, so that I could choose to avoid doing that.
  3. Am I right when I perceive the "drives" as the total amount of jobs an industrial/commercial unit can supply?
  4. And finally, I've uploaded a screenshot of my lone town in San Francisco region (that has no neighbouring cities, and in fact doesn't have any cities in an entire region), and for some reason under the "Industrial Job Supply" window the "Industrial Jobs" value in the "City" column is higher (like way higher) than the "Industrial Jobs" in the "Region" column - 4,889 and 181 respectively. For the record, the circumstance with the "Commercial Job Supply" is different  - values under both columns match - which they should, in my opinion (if I understand the mechanic correctly - and I understand it that the "Region" column should be an aggregate for all the cities). For the record, I don't have dirty industries in my rural lone town - only farms, and a bit of manufacturing.

P. S. I use Industrial Revolution mod, CAM, NAM, Less Abandonment and NKO.

Looking forward to hearing from you. And apologies if I missed anyone to thank.

Thank you in advance.

Hello all.

Hiya!

That's an impressive post you've made. I do believe it'd go much better as a New Topic in the SC4 Discussion Forum. *;)

There's just way, way too much to deal with in the comments of Kel's mod. *:P
