Growify Plopped Buildings Cheat - DLL Plugin  1.0.1

About This File

A DLL Plugin for SimCity 4 that adds a cheat code to convert plopped buildings to a growable RCI zone type.

This mod is an in-game equivalent to the SC4 command line tool's growify command for editing save games (and the website version).

One of the differences between the two tools is the building exemplar property that is used to detect the RCI building type.
The SC4 command line tool uses the Capacity Satisfied property from the savegame's lot subfile.
This plugin uses the Purpose property from the building's exemplar.

System Requirements

  • SimCity 4 version 641
  • Windows 10 or later

The plugin may work on Windows 7 or later with the Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 x86 Redistribute installed, but I do not have the ability to test that.

Installation

  1. Close SimCity 4.
  2. Copy SC4Growify.dll into the Plugins folder in the SimCity 4 installation directory.
  3. Start SimCity 4.

Using The Plugin

The plugin adds a Growify cheat code with the following syntax:

Growify <zone type> <zone density> [make historical]

The <zone type> parameter is one of: Residential, Commercial, Agriculture or Industrial.
The <zone density> parameter is one of: Low, Medium or High.
The [make historical] parameter is optional, when not present it will default to true. This behavior is intended to prevent the game from replacing the plopped building as part of its normal zone redevelopment process. Setting the value to false will preserve the game's existing historical option for that lot.

All commands are case-insensitive.

Example Commands

The following command converts all commercial plopped buildings to the Commercial Medium-density zone: Growify Commercial Medium To save typing, you could also use: Growify Com Med or Growify C M. This works with any zone or density value.

Because the Agriculture zone only has 1 density, it can be used with just the zone name: Growify Agriculture.

Troubleshooting

The plugin should write a SC4Growify.log file in the same folder as the plugin.
The log contains status information for the most recent run of the plugin.

15/03/2024 - the day the "grow and bulldoze then reload if it doesn't bloody grow the building you want routine" died!

This is so easy to use and works perfectly and has changed everything for me; I wasn't aware of other methods to plop residential without breaking the game. Since 2006, or whenever I started playing this game, my belief has been "plopped residential doesn't work so don't even bother" so this DLL is even more of a groundbreaking mod for me than for other more advanced players who have been using other methods.

The mod works perfectly and is one of the most important mods ever released. Many thanks to everyone involved!! 21 years and it feels like 2004 again!

Whilst not strictly new functionality, doing this through a DLL mod has made things more user friendly. Now you can just 'activate' everything without leaving the game. Even for those who prefer 'building' over 'painting', this will allow us to fill any gaps as we like without worrying about functionality. I will surely be making use of this mod more and more.

Oh my, this is honestly SO good that I had to check whether today it was the 1st of April. Already tried it and it does work like a charm with patched WIndows 7 like all your other mods. What can I say? An absolute must-have for all serial ploppers like myself, who until today had to growify their cities either online or with a lot of typing on the Node prompt. This is incredibly easy and quick, simply amazing!

I never give any file more than 10/10, but this is well deserved. The ability to growify everything in-game is a big deal.

12/10!

Amazing. Just. Amazing.

I wrote the sc4 command line tool with the growify command a few years ago. While not ideal because you had to save the city and exit to region, at least it provided a workaround for ploppable residentials. To now have something that works in the game itself... Wow. I'm so excited to see where all this DLL modding is still going to take us! Seems like nothing is impossible anymore!

It really works pretty well in game, I always wanted a way to manually plop some industrial or residential buildings and get them to work as planned, but the plopplable condition made that impossible. This solve the problem with ploppled buildings.
