About This File
Description: Located in what is now Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, the Sakhalin Regional Museum was home to the prefectural government of Karafuto during the period of time the Japanese ran the southern half of Sakhalin. At the end of World War II, the Soviet Union seized the remaining part of the island, repatriated the ethnic Japanese and some of their local allies to Hokkaido and other parts of Japan, and converted the structure into a museum.
