About This File

Long, long ago the Corillionites built a double walled city atop the tallest hill in the area. The walls, towers, gates, tunnels and moats remain in place while all other traces of civilization have vanished. Cori's Castle Region is complete and ready to play featuring @onlyplace4's City Walls and Moats.

To use:

Unzip the file into your Regions folder and place the Alamo Cost Minus $50,940 For Cori's Castle.dat file into your Plugins folder.

Dependencies:

  1. City Walls
  2. City Wall Moats
  3. Alamo Cost Minus $50,940 For Cori's Castle.dat (included under the download button)

Optional:

Notes:

  1. I have toggled off the U-Drive It missions in each city tile. Should you prefer to have floating bubbles all over your city, feel free to toggle them back on.
  2. Each tile is filled with Maxis trees and shrubs. If you use a different tree controller you may need to toggle Flora Off then Flora On in each tile.
  3. The optional (attached) Alamo Park has been plopped in the center tile and will exactly negate the exorbitant maintenance costs of the walls and moats. If you have some other method of money management, feel free to bulldoze the park.
  4. The center tile (Cori's Castle) has the Building Style Control set to Chicago 1890 only to simulate only older buildings being grown. You may also want to change that to your preference.
  5. You may share, modify, and/or distribute my works in any manner you like.

This is an incredibly ingenious and inventive idea.

It revolves around the concept of a template region which features individual city tiles with a defined purpose. In this instance, the main focus clearly being the central tile with those neighbouring to complement.

Once installing the necessary dependencies and copying the folder to Regions, it can be loaded like any other map. Since these are pre-existing tiles already rendered, it saves time being ready to play right away. I feel there's scope for a whole range of cities to be developed and uploaded to the STEX in this way. Maybe airports and seaports in a similarly specialised designed map, then in-keeping with the concept of shareable cities, allowing each mayor to use each as a base to work with.

In terms of Cori's Castle itself, it truly is a magnificent creation. The effort involved to individually and strategically place 3,392 lots including 1,909 walls and 1,483 moats. It's clever how the walls conform to the flattened terrain elevations, while the cliff edges from the "ENN Rock" mod define a rock face emphasising the boundaries and with the moats. I highly recommend using this with the Columbus textures. The ferry terminal in the north side is also a nice touch, along with the tunnels and other details including the entrances.

While already from the template having a mightily impressive aesthetical appearance, I can see endless potential here for developing a thriving empire residing inside. How currently the castle is a relic from a long ago era, and now it's possible to be restored to its former glory, or however one wishes.

For a sample, here's a few preview pics I've captured:

Themed sets such as the 19th Century Small Shops by @CT14 and various Mountain Theme Pack fillers from @Pegprod would be ideal alongside. With the possibility to keep everything self-sufficient inside the castle grounds, then perhaps segmenting wealth levels between the outer and inner quadrants. All while still maintaining RCI growth functionality, helped by the advantages of extra control provided by No Kickout (a mod which I wholeheartedly endorse using).

A superbly conscripted and extremely well executed concept.

Queen Cori reigns supreme! *:)

Wow! What a great "little" project... *:D

Having been a long time user of CP's Columbus Mod, I just threw it in the plugins and came up with this curio - without realizing I use the lower snow version...

Cori's Castle in winter time (brrr...). Now off to find some things medieval-ish.

Thanks for providing this.   *:thumb:
