About This File

Colossus Addon Mod - CAM Controller is the popular SimCity 4 mod that involves substantial changes in the RCI (Residential - Commercial - Industrial) simulation as well as essential bugfixes. The mod was developed by the various members of the CAM Team who over time have brought modifications to improve this mod

Please note that this pack may receive updates in the near future. Do not redistribute without asking first, mostly as doing so would complicate efforts to properly maintain, update, and provide technical support for the pack.

Extra feature, if you hover over the folders in the installer, you will get some extra information about each contents

WARNING: From version 2.5 onward Colossus Addon Mod works only with the digital version (1.1.641) of SimCity 4 (Microsfot Windows and Linux only). If you run CAM 2.5 or later on systems different from those listed, the mod may malfunction and no support is provided

MIGRATION:

Migration to CAM 3.0 and later versions can be done if you meet these requirements

  • Players coming from CAM 2.5 can upgrade to CAM 3.0 using only the CAM Controller
  • Players from vanilla can switch to CAM 3.0 using the CAM Controller but must create a new region

Migration to CAM 3.0 and later versions cannot be done if you meet these requirements

  • Players coming from CAM 2.1.1 cannot upgrade to CAM 3.0
  • Players from SPAM cannot switch to CAM 3.0 using only the CAM Controller.
  • Players from vanilla cannot switch to CAM 3.0 if it is used in a developed region
  • Players coming from CAM 3.0 with the CAM-SPAM Controller cannot switch to CAM 3.0 - CAM Controller
  • Players coming from CAM 3.0 with the CAM Controller cannot switch to CAM 3.0 CAM-SPAM Controller

If you are installing CAM starting from these given directions it is discouraged not to use the already developed regions as you may experience compatibility problems with edphics, problems with RCI simualtion so it is strongly advised to create a new region to avoid the problems.

CorinaMarie: During the process of installation even after sc4datpacker fails to update SimCity_1 file the installer give me choice weather to continue with installation or quiet it. As I continued, the process finishes and in the end it says you have successfully installed CAM.

To be more specific, in your Solution in 5.b its been said the installer will fail and rather than quitting it nothing else will happen but in my case the installer ask me whether I would like to continue with installation or quiet it. as I press continue then again another message arises which says you need to merge the file SimCity_1 from the original and so on (you know the rest). and finally the installation process completed and says " you have successfully completed CAM".

So how did it happen? as I failed to comply with the sc4datpacker.

why would CAM v1.0 installer work but then the new 2.1 version  sends back SC4 install path not found? If there is ever a new SimCity game that comes out it better not depend on volunteers to make their damn game playable. SPENDING HOURS INSTALLING MODS FOR A GAME TO BE ENJOYABLE AND FIGURING OUT HTF TO INSTALL THEM IS GD VIRTUAL RAPE..FU EA. Hows Rory or any of yalls trash going. Boycotted yall mofos in 2013 after Madden 25, Tiger Woods, a new f'ed SimCity, and Rory. Sadly, all game developers are becoming trash and I fear the good days are behind us in this realm, minus better graphics is all we get decades later in exchange for bugs, patches, mods and microtransactions. Yay us...

To be honest, this doesn't make a good first impression IMO. :O

And our site really isn't the place to rant about game developers either. *:P

TBH, I'm not on here to make a good impression or to impress anyone. I'm here to get CAM to run, period.  Way to be a snob, behind a keyboard no less. It was a quick rant, sorry to hurt your feelers..get over it

That was clearly evident from your prior comment, and also your message just now.

If intending to set a bad initial impression, you've certainly achieved it so far. But, that's your choice. I will say though that it's not something we're wanting to make an issue over, providing you don't make an issue over it any further. To acclaim you're not here to make a good impression sounds like you are well aware how it was a bad one. Again though, the choice is yours.

We know you're frustrated about getting the CAM to work, and also it sounds like you've had bad experiences from other games. That's totally understandable. What isn't encouraged is continuing to use a ranting manner of posting, because that's not a good way to seek help from those able to assist. So I think adapting due politeness and respect would be a very smart choice from here on.

Well now, that's not a very nice thing to say. *:(

You can (of course) choose to reply to my post here in a similar way if you'd like too.

Yes, it was a rant. And yes, I don't think you've yet gotten over it, but I suggest now is the time to move forward.

There is no issue here unless you wish to escalate this further. That choice is also yours.

I installed the missing dll files and tried to manual installation, but there seems to be a problem with SC4 datpacker, which refuses to launch.. oh well.

Hi folks,

You see, I haven´t played SimCity 4 in years, now I´ve installed it again from steam on a Windows 10. I remember this CAM V.1 made an awesome difference to the way cities developed.

My cities would look better aesthetically . I also remember I would make a mess of my plugins folder, I had NAM and CAMV1 installed, even though I saw people say they don´t run very well together, but everything looked so awesome and I would have a great time designing the cities.

Even with that messy plugin folder full of bats, lots, dependencies, these two MODS (NAM and CAM), everything looked nice and working good, only a few crashes sometimes.

I would like to know if I can use the CAM V1 instead of this CAM 2.1, which I find extremelly hard to comprehend how to do it manually (I tried and failed), it comes with all those instructions but still it is time consuming and a bit difficult. I needed a manual for dumb people or a step by step video explaining how to manage these files, but I can´t find any. Do you reckon I can install CAM v1? Was there a big problem with that ?

Thanks to you all for keeping this great community alive.

Unfortunately, CAM 1.0 will require the same install process as well, otherwise you will suffer a doubled regional capacity bug that can cause all sorts of problems.

For the record, there is absolutely no compatibility issue with CAM and NAM

That said, whether you're playing vanilla or CAM, you need to choose the capacities for the traffic simulator that suit your style of play and the cities you want. You can't have 20k Residents in a skyscraper all trying to use the same 1000 capacity street as their neighbors without a problem.

That is good to know, I will keep them both then. Thank you so much.

Now it seems I managed to install CAM following this guide (https://www.simtropolis.com/library/misc/Solution to CAM Installation Problem Using Windows 10.pdf), at least the program said it was successfull.

But still something is not right , some weird issues , only residential demand is working and rising, industrial and commerce are way down, not even cheating will make them rise.

I will play a bit and if it continues I might unistall the game and folders and reinstall over and over again until it Works. I just wish life was easier lol

Try using the Census Repository for more information about what's going on.

CAM is unlikely to create new problems, but may exacerbate issues you already have. Keep in mind that CAM also depends on the entire region, so you may want to open and save every city with a neighbor connection, in order to get things adjusted properly.

But I do believe CAM is recommended for fresh regions.

Hi

When I try to install CAM, it tells me I should update the game to the version 1.1.638.0 or higher. But what I don't understand is I'm using the Steam Version of SimCity 4 deluxe and it should be up to date. I looked for the patch on google as well and it installed it.

But still, your installer is telling me the same message. What am I doing wrong?

Hey, sorry to bug you guys about this but I followed the same instructions for installing CAM and now I can't open any of my city files. The game crashes and the exception file says the thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access. Is there some permissions issue here? I've been reading through forums and nobody else seems to have this issue.

For reference, I'm running it on the Steam version.

@Woody1142

I'm sure you've already read the linked info atop this entry with installation steps.

While I'm not a CAM expert myself, it sure sounds like there is something not quite right. It might be worth you posting a new topic in the Custom Content forum, since your question would be more visible there for those who can hopefully help. *;)

Big Thanks for CorinaMarie and JimC (?) for providing installation information for newer operation systems.

Maybe one day there's someone making a new approach to the basic idea of expanding grow stages so to extend development/playing time. Imo it could be a completely new mod - if it respects the values calculated by pim-x wouldn't break existing game content.

2 things that kinda confused me:

1. Invisichem said "A final note, The FarmOverride file can be kept with all playstyles, it just provides a ton of boost to the normal farm demand drives. I suggest removing it if you are not using rural CAM though". So I really don't know if should leave it there or not. Although installation of extended version will not install the IR demand override... Maybe you can clarify this on the guide for installing CAM

2. I couldn't find any information about the residential halving mod will work along CAM 2.1, neither on the manual or ST and SC4Devotion forums

this was the issue i had but the error log for datpacker doesnt even say what the real issue is or if there is in fact dll files missing/which ones? there was some kind of issue during the CAM installation where it stopped and prompted me to either continue on or exit

I'm certainly not certain, but I believe the original CAM 1.0 also included a Traffic Controller which has to use a specific Exemplar and that is the same one which NAM modifies. If so, that's likely the reason some posts would say they don't work together. However, afaik, making sure the NAM controller loads later than the CAM one solves the problem and based on the folder names created during install for CAM and for NAM, said overriding is automatically handled.
