About This File

Intro

Far too long in the works, but finally here, is version 2 of my Filler Set.

Used together, this set of lots can provide a powerful set of tools to deal with the diagonal jaggies problem and help to create more visually pleasing areas. The basic filler lots are texture-based and intended to transition cleanly between Sidewalks, Grass & Concrete textures. Sometimes though, we want to fill half a tile or an unsightly gap, which such fillers alone can't handle. Due to game limitations, a lot can either be fully transparent or completely show a texture. If you try to use partial transparency, the water bug appears, which is both ugly and annoying. Overhanging Lots can help here, because they do not use textures, but models that display them. So we can use transparency and/or extend textures beyond the boundaries of the lots they are upon. The main downside is that such models aren't very slope tolerant.

During install, you can choose which types, if any, of overhanging fillers to install. Note that different textures include different pieces, I've tried to balance flexibility whilst being mindful of the number of menu items. Each sidewalk variant has 8 lots, grass comes with 5 and all others just 2. But, I think for most users that will cover the bulk of situations you will really need. Find all installed lots at the top of your Parks Menu. The Extender options are as follows:

DFS_3.jpg.ec1bd2bf5a3d93dcbd225cb4a8b73b

Lotters/Tinkerers will find 156 props to play with, 13 for each of the 12 supported textures. So if you are willing to make some lots, it's possible to have every prop type for every network. But that wasn't something I felt I wanted to do for various reasons. The complete package runs to 60-ish lots already too, you have to stop somewhere.

Included are the following options, which can be selected from the installer of this download:

  • Diagonal Filler Lots
Like the v1 release, but with many updates/tweaks and a few new lots. All lots are sidewalk adaptable and supported by TGN.
  • Overhanging Filler Lots
Using S3D / RTK0 Props, here is a very flexible set of Lots and Props, which unlike traditional BAT models, are not fixed in terms of the textures upon them. AutoMagically™ certified, most of these props will simply adapt to your installed texture choices. Some will require overriding included textures to adapt, but this is still a new level of flexibility for such items. Lots for the following networks are included:
    • Sidewalks (all wealths)
    • Rural / Dirt (used for Rail/I-AG zoning)
    • Grass (all wealths)
    • Concrete (I-M & I-HT)
    • Pedmalls (Cobble, Red Brick & Sandstone)
  • Overrides for Paeng's Mods
Extenders for Paeng's Parks, Bikepaths and overhanging models made by Krashspeed, which were used in various releases by Paeng. See this post for a more complete explanation and links to those files. Installing these will convert existing and new lots from the fixed models to my adaptable set instead. Allowing sidewalks, grass and other elements to be customised like never before.

Install

Run the installer package after downloading it. From there you can select which parts of the mod you wish to install. Note that it is built with NSIS, so can be opened using 7zip if you prefer to manually install everything.

Dependencies

There is only one main dependency, SFBT Essentials. Only the file "SFBT_ArkenbergeJoe_Texturen.dat" from this package is actually required. TGN users will not need this file either, provided the "Diagonal Filler Override" option was selected when installing it.

Additionally if you use MAS71's Walls Pack 2 and have the file"01_Mas71-Walls2_Essentials-090924.dat" from that pack installed. You will then see an optional helper piece when placing some fillers, designed to make orienting/placement easier.

Thank you so much - I've been looking into these but haven't been able to use the ones available because I use an old asphalt mod and haven't found one with that color.  Thanks for feature of it using the default mod.

:( - It didn't change/adapt to the default sidewalk mod - it showed the Maxis light color.  Did I do something wrong?

I love the content you are uploading rsc204! Simple, useful and great items for cleaning up cosmetic annoyances.

I wonder if you will ever get round to FAR fillers or overhanging FAR fillers?

@ Oren: well others seem to have no problem, I've only uploaded one version, so I guess you should try again, it should contain just one .dat file and a readme.

@ Urielgarcia: The ID of the texture is the Maxis white one, just simply having a custom sidewalk won't work, you need to have a sidewalk replacement mod (overrides the Maxis defaults with your personal sidewalk). If your sidewalk doesn't have one, here is a mod by Gobias that includes a generic version you can use. :edit: It appears I got this terribly wrong, sorry. To make up for it, I've written up a simple guide to explain how to make one here.

@ Ln X: I'm not sure about making FAR stuff really, I love the dragable FAR because you get 2/3 tiles width to place zoning unlike diagonals which are only every single tile. I have way more problems with diagonals personally. Perhaps in the future though, though my list of things to do is already bulging right now.

I think most of the ones I've seen use diagonal overlays with the sidewalk, all I did was use the grass triangle overlays instead and that way the base texture will change. I use more than one sidewalk mod, so I try to make everything like this so I don't have to constantly re-lot everything.

Without question the best diagonal fillers yet. Very prudent to incorporate prop families, sidewalk mods, and guide arrows.  Btw, does anyone know where to find MAS71_GuideArrows_v100.dat?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, the linked file - Walls pack also contains the same prop too, you don't have to use the walls, but I think they are great :D.

If you use my automated version of MTDRK, you can create an override for your sidewalk very easily.

These are awesome! I just downloaded your updated version and have been using it extensively. I'm having a small issue though: I can't seem to get the $ grass lots (x2, x3, half, etc) to install. No matter how I run the installer, only the $$ and $$$ grass .dats show up. Am I doing something wrong? Any chance you could post these lots without the installer?

@khimera: Thanks for highlighting this problem. Looking into it there is a bug in the installer code, which means it will never actually install the $ Wealth Grass pieces. I've just fixed that and am uploading a new version which works correctly.

I use this mod a lot. This mod is one of the most important mod for eye-candy purposes and I can't play without it. There're just some certain scenerios that I need 4x and 5x extender pieces and some fillers with more eye-candy options like with benches, trash cans, light poles etc. So having these would be great really but I know it's difficult, so thank you so much!

I could make you a couple custom Props for that purpose, but you'd have to know how to handle the lotting side. If that's of interest, send me a PM.

Like with 4x and 5x fillers, everyone will no doubt have their own specific wish list. With the exception of light poles, you could easily MMP benches/trash cans onto the plopped pieces, to add detail and variation. By providing only the blank lots, it simply keeps the set more compact and flexible. Once more though, use of the Lot Editor is the best way to customise things to your liking.

@franyer: SubMenu support is something I will add eventually, I have already done the bulk of the work, just needs some polish and repackaging to release it.

Update Mar 25: Optional SubMenu support now available, see message at top of STEX entry.

This is caused by the in-game wealthing system, Plopped Lots like this can't be set to a specific wealth/density. Other than using altered network textures that only display Med/High wealthing, there isn't really anything you can do about it.
