Please try creating things that bring something new to the table. One could easily put a park just like this one together in game. I appreciate the fact that you're creating things for the game and sharing them with us, but do try to have some innovation in what you make. As I said, there's plenty of creators who I'm sure would be happy to help and guide you to making better lots.

First of all it's great to see that your interested in making new lots for the game we all love.....but that being said your lot kinda doesn't make much sense.  Ask yourself.....can you really imagine a park that has such a mish mash of stuff in it.  Take for example the large parking garage...even though there is already a parking lot?  What purpose does the barn looking building serve?  Have you ever seen a park that separates the tennis courts like this? What's the purpose of the large brick area in the middle.   My point is you would be better served to start by picking a real park that you know and like and try to recreate it.  As you put together the lot ask yourself if it makes sense or if you could picture that layout in real life.  Keep trying....even the best batters on this sight would have to admit that their first few try's at lot making were "marginal" at best.

...and not to forget, "no dependencies" is not just a phrase that you say like "hello" and "goodbye". "No dependencies" means "nobody out there will need to download anything else to see everything that you can see on the screenshot".

In this case, this claim is once again totally wrong. There are definitely several dependencies, although I don't know exactly which ones. I'd guess about 3 prop packs and at least 1 texture pack.

You probably say "no dependencies" because YOU can see everything. And why? Because YOUR plugins folder is chock-full with dependencies. But other people may not have them. So you need to point out which ones will be needed.

I've said it a bazillion times, and I'll say it again: Undocumented dependencies are not an unfortunate blow of fate. Undocumented dependencies are the result of sloppy testing (or no testing at all).

Before you release something - anything - make sure you did the following:

1. Compile a list of all the dependencies you think you used.

2. Then rename your Plugins folder to something else ("Plugins_REAL" or something).

3. Make a new, empty plugins folder.

4. Copy the lot you made and all necessary dependencies into this new plugins folder, NOTHING ELSE.

5. Start the game, plop your lot and check if everything appears as it should. If it does, your list of dependencies is correct. If it doesn't, you missed something.

It's really as easy as that, and there is no reason at all not to be 100% sure about dependencies before you upload.

In order to get a grip of dependencies first hand, I recommend the following:

1. ALWAYS make your own lots starting with a totally empty plugins folder. THIS is "no dependencies".

2. If you need something else (a dependency, in other words), add ONE prop/texture pack and see if it contains something useful. If it does, leave it in there. If it doesn't, move it out of your plugins again and try another one.

This is a foolproof, easy way to keep track of dependencies and to stay in control all the time.

Good advice all round. Everyone has to start somewhere, and I'm sure you'll progress from experience. Just remember, dependencies aren't a bad thing, although people often frown upon them. After all, they're what adds the unique details on each lot. Otherwise we'd only have the plain old Maxis ones to use. For finding prop packs to use, I'd suggest making use of the PIM-X tool, available at SC4Devotion. It allows individual props to be previewed from each pack. This can help to find the ones you'd like to use, and limit the dependencies.

To help find the dependency links, a list of the common ones can be found here.

lovely oil rig in the middle there.

Maybe it's an Industrial Park... haha... ha.

Okay, I'll show myself the way out. That was horrible.

You can do better than this, don't you? Open a thread and show us what you are working with. We can give you tips and advices there.

PLEASE stop uploading here. Your lots are terrible.

I don't see any reason to disencourage someone like that.

are you sure this doesn't have dependencies

There are definitely dependencies associated with this lot, as T Wrecks pointed out.

Just from eyeballing the pic, I think there is one of MJB's mega prop packs and one of C.P.'s mega prop packs.  There are probably some texture packs as well - the creator will need to chime in with an updated list.

I like the idea of a big park. But 10x10 doesn't make a lot of sense. It would be hard to use as a downtown "feature" park since the city blocks would be too big. Also can't fit in as a seaside/riverside park since it isn't green enough.  Too many things (except for the parking garage) that would fit in parks in general, but that create a mish-mash if all used in a specific park.

If the "oil rig" is intended to be a climbing aparatus, it is way out of scale. If it is intended as a sculpture/architectural feature, it doesn't have enough 'artistic' qualities to it.
