Privatize Your Water & Power Companies!  1.1

About This File

Plop these lots and you will have an infinite supply of water and power covering all of your city without the need for a single pipe or cable. These lots are for people who are fed up of laying pipes/cables/pumps/stations ...which is not really a challenge but takes up a lot of time.

But isn't this cheating?

In a word no. You are effectively privatizing your loss making Power & Water Industries! The private sector can take the strain of providing water and power to your citizens and in the process leave you free to focus on transport infrastructure, attracting business and increasing living standards! Much in the same way as you do not have to waste time running the Cable Company or Telephone Company in SimCity.

The lot is composed of three key files:

  • One will allow you to privatize your water industry (1x1 plaza)
  • One will allow you to privatize your power industry (1x1 plaza)
  • And the last insures universal access to water and power, no need to lay a single pipe or cable

The legal costs of privatizing each industry amounts to $20 000, the monthly cost to regulate each industry is $350 which funds the Ofwat and Ofgem quangos. There is no financial dividend to privatization due to unfunded pension liabilities.

PLEASE NOTE: To achieve the visual set up shown in the picture you will need to download the VIP girafe EDF Tower building and then place one of each of the plazas in front of the building in additional to one pedestrian mall (NAM) or simply duplicate a power/water plaza.

Feedback welcomed! (:

I am not clear... so if I plop these, I will not need to lay down any pipes or power lines at all?

Yeah, I'm a little confused on how it works too.  Can we get a little more detail?  Because it sounds intriguing.

Can you give some real world explanation instead? Your description is too...broad. It's an interesting concept...although in a game where one can simply create infinite money via cheats it seems redundant to take this approach. Unique...but I don't see the point of this.

Hey all,

I have updated the description to make it clearer. As for the point, the concept is more about saving time than money. Infinite money cheats won't save time but they will take the realism out of the game with this solution you still need to run a balanced budget.

I think a disadvantage to this should be regular water shortages and a poorer, unhealthier, and grumpier population, since here in London the water companies cannot be bothered to fix the centuries-old rusty pipes.

Not a fan of privatization of everything in real life(!), but in game it is something new it seems and can be worth to try. Interesting idea!

If I use this prop, do i have to delete all existing power and water infrastructure?  I already go the phantom slider bug once from using stuff like this and I don't feel like dealing with it again.

Hey Silverbullet, I have sent you a message to see if it's possible to establish the cause of the game crashing. Thank you for the feedback.

Not sure if it would be hard to do or not, but could you simply scale the monthly cost based off the demand?

Okay, it worked well until - hmmm, dunno exactly, first every single lot showed the "lack of water" symbol, then the whole game kinda freezed and after one minute of patience I decided to kill the process.

I guess - no more - that perhaps the industry sector grew (I created a few new zones recently) and the water pollution came up that much that the whole water infrastructure was polluted.

My idea:

usually only a specific water tower or water pump is affacted if the pollution raises, so that specific water tower or water pump is shut down.

Using this mod, if no water towers or water pumps exist at all AND the pollution raises, the result is a completely chaos as I described above.

Could that be?

Now I'll load the last save, pause, build up water towers here and there, build up pipes, build up powerplants and poles if necessary - then bulldoze the privatize lots, save, exit the game and remove the mods.

But that was kinda experiment.
