About This File

Transparent Power Utilities
By Craig-Abcvs

This pack contains two lots, that are designed to power lots in remote areas that use effects or props that require power. The lots have no visible props or buildings and have a transparent base... when plopped nothing will be visible. Nada, nothing, zilch. This is to allow terrain detailing with any MMP Flora of your choice.

The Transparent Transmission Utility lots can be used to bring power from anywhere in the tile without spoiling the look of your pristinely detailed wilderness with transmission towers or visiable power stations.

Turn on the power view in your Mayor menu and then evenly space the transmission lot across your tile to where you need the power. The power will now extend two grid squares around the transmission lot. Place the next lot two grid squares away from the green power view edge, and so on.

Fantastic idea! Now, onto the invisible water and waste disposal...

Heh... I wonder if this is the first ever lot uploaded to the STEX that has no props, building or base textures!

Possibly

Nice idea, surely something people will like, I myself won't be using them but 4/5 stars (4 for thought!)

@durfsurn: My thoughts exactly. ;)

If so, it just proves the potential of feedback and constructive criticism once again: through a critical view on an item and an anylisis of its strengths and weaknesses, knowledge of possible improvements is generated, and this often gives rise to new ideas, which in turn might end up in the shape of finished items that enhance the game even further - such as here.

That's why I often have my problems when a culture of "say something nice or shut up" is taken too far.

But enough off topic already...

These lots are a prime example of the "jeez, why has nobody made this before?" category. We have had small power generators of various kinds, ploppable forest lots (that can also be used to distribute power to remote areas) in many versions, but a simple, invisible power transmission lot?

Now we have one!

So far I've been able to do without, but should I need these, I know where to find them now and save some time and effort because I won't have to make them myself, so TYVM for uploading. :)

uhm... how is it even possible to get a brown box on an empty lot, like I do?

So... does this mean no more ugly red power lines at the corner of every city? So I can do neighbor connections with this?

There must be a building (invisible) to make it work as a power plant, but I see what you mean
The only problem is invisible base textures always become completely black (or whatever you are using as your city background) after a while...
Still 5/5 :thumb:

It actually was one of the first things I made in the PIM, never thought about uploading though :whatevs:

That happens when the city is saved, enter and exit 'zones' view to revert. It does mean however there'll always be a black patch in the region view, though it won't be too hard to cover up with some MMPs.

Sorry, that is not correct :-) The 'black holes' (aka WaterBug) only happen when the lot is made the wrong way - namely, the base texture was removed, but not the overlay texture. In other words - do not use overlays on "transparent" lots.

Paeng is correct... these lots will not cause a black hole, because there are no overlay textures. Transparent base textures have been used extensively on other lots for quite some time without any problems.

Of course these lots wont be for everybody, but for those that do need them I am sure that you will know exactly who you are!

These lots were created in LE, with a completely clean plugins folder, there can not possibly be any dependencies for these lots.

here's to a screenshot, all plugins except this pack disabled.
and like I said, (on my other system) I got a clean reference install of the game, same result.
I so don't get how this is possible.
Only thing I can think of is that the game wants the invisible building as a dependency. LE shows it right at the edge of the lot, just where the missing dependency is supposed to be (better visible with peg's no more brown boxes mod)

GMT: I have posted your pic in my thread over at Simpeg, to see if anyone else is having the same problem. At the moment I don't have an answer, but we 'are working on it'

I think I have solved the mystery! The lots use the BLAM blank building model... the power lots work in my full plugin folder with only the sc4lots because the BLAM blank is used on other lots... while developing the lots with a clean plugins, of course the BLAM blank building was there... ::headsmack::
