Farm Desirability MOD  1.0

About This File

In the years I have spent playing SimCity there is one thing that has always annoyed me, add a few cars to any rural road and the surrounding farmland dilapidates. This has never seemed realistic to me. Many rural roads in places like the Greater Toronto Area are crammed with commuters driving to jobs in the city and yet farming continues unhindered... at least until developers arrive to build cul-du-sacs! Contrary to popular belief and common sense, in SimCity it's not just pollution that causes farmland to dilapidate, it's just the presence of traffic. Farm desirability decreases in direct relation to the amount of traffic passing by. It's the reverse of commercial service desirability. This little mod of mine removes traffic as a factor in farm desirability and allows realistic rural commuter sheds to be built. Farms will still dilapidate through pollution so a really excessive amount of traffic that causes high air pollution will still end up causing dilapidation, but it takes a lot and a player, if they're willing to pay, can always enact one or both of the anti-pollution ordinances.

Included in this upload is a cam and non-cam version. Choose one and only one (delete the one that's not relevant from the plugins folder). This mod isn't compatible with any other mods that alter desirability parameters like, for example, PEG's SPAM Mod.

Well, the SPAM mod already considers this issue - traffic does not cause dilapidation (or much less than the defaults)... in other words - if you already play with SPAM, you don't need this mod.

So this is definitly a very good addition for folks who play agricultural settings, but for some reason don't use the SPAM (SimPeg Agricultural Mod)...

Really? I have several troubled large farming community tiles--they're below the 30,000 population milestone and don't have sufficient education, and yet farms have stopped growing! I managed to solve the issue for two previous similar tiles, but at the cost of temporarily removing 1/3 of the population while I added the last farms. I do use SPAM; but the only thing I dislike about it is how it skyrockets the jobs available from agricultural industry. I'd have to check the SPAM plug-in files to see if the differing demand mod can be changed for this one.

Stumbled across this by accident and it's EXACTLY what I need. Dilapidated farms are ruining my current city, even though it lacks any pollution. Great stuff works perfectly.

I had missed this mod previously and downloaded it. When I unzip it into a folder, nothing is there - empty folder. Tried several times. I've never had this happen before and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

In the real world, pollution from traffic is good for crops, at least ever since we got the lead out of our gas. All the air polution that's bad for crops comes from industry and garbage.

Orchards grow especially well next to highways, due to the densly packed trees competing for CO2.

What this mod should really do would be to make traffic desirable for farm land, but make water pollution, radiation and industrial polution a bad thing. You might also want to find a way to make crops reduce air polution, especially if the crops are orchards.

This mod isn't working for me :/ I have tried both the regular and CAM versions of the mod (I deleted the other version I wasn't using as instructed). I also uninstalled SPAM. Regardless of the version I use, I wait a few game years for my farms to spruce up, but nothing happens. I demolished and re-zoned my farms and they grow back with polluted trees, nothing has changed.
