About This File

*********************************************This file has had a complete overhaul*************************

It has been re-scaled, re-modelled, re-textured, re-modded and re-lotted. I am leaving the original files here for legacy purposes (in case people want to re-build plugins or just happen to want the original) but I strongly suggest you get the updated version here:

As you can see, the new version is much nicer than the original screenshots.

These 1850’s terrace houses in Forbes St Woolloomooloo are some of Sydney’s great survivors. Perched on the edge of the CBD and a stone’s throw from Sydney Harbour, they were built primarily as housing for Sydney town’s large iterant mariner population, who, in-between commissions on the clippers to Africa, Europe and the East, would often take lodging in this port city.

These row houses have survived the economic downturn of the 1890’s, the bubonic plague of the beginning of the 20th Century and subsequent slum resumption orders; they narrowly missed demolition in the 1960’s when the eastern suburbs railway line was constructed and again were saved from the encroaching skyscrapers by the green bans of the Builders Labourers Federation during the 1970’s. Resumed by the Department of Housing during the mid 1980’s after a heritage order, these houses were restored by the government; thereby their future is ensured.

The design of these homes has overtones of the peaky, yet playful, Gothic – steep gables, traceried barges, tall chimneys and ecclesiastic design in the ironwork of the Juliet balconies.
