The Portland Building  1.0

About This File

The Portland

Building was designed by Michael Graves to house City of Portland

agencies and bureaus. It also boasts Portlandia, the second largest

hammered copper statue in the United States (second only to the Statue

of Liberty). As the first major U.S. post-modernist structure, it is

regarded by some to be THE symbol of the rise of the post-modernist

school of architecture worldwide.

This unique

building elicits a full range of emotions from admirers, detractors,

and those neutral toward it. Regardless of how one feels about

Post-Modernism, the Portland Building will be sure to stand out in your

city!

Versions and Specifics:

I have included

2 model files for your use: One which includes the flagpoles and flags

of the US, Oregon, and Portland, and a non-flagged version for those

wishing not to display flags. All lot variations have been included for

both models:

Bureau of Bureaucracy (standard BoB stats)

CO$$ Growable (Stage 7) and CO$$ Ploppable both with 1817 jobs.

Landmark

All lots are 4x4 SC4 tiles, and look best when surrounded by roadways.

Installation:

Unzip to

your  c://...mydocuments/simcity4/plugins folder.  There will

be two folders, "flags" and "no flags". Select the version you wish to

use by discarding or moving the undesired folder out of the plugins

folder. Inside the folder, select the version you wish to use and

discard or move the undesired lot versions out of the plugins folder.

Start SimCity 4 and enjoy!

NOTE: All

versions will appear in the landmarks menu except the Bureau of

Bureaucracy (BoB) and growables. The BoB may be found in your rewards

menu, and should be available even if the standard BoB isn't.

Looks pretty good! If you ever feel like doing another Graves high-rise, you should set your sites on the Humana Building in Louisville---even though, you know, you do Portland buildings. Just sayin'. Again, great work!

These are just the comments I expected about this weird building. Glad I am redeeming it in some way. lol :P Seen the Humana Building I think. Is it that one that curves in with a huge column in it? Very strange building indeed. What was MG on in the 80's?!?!?

Oh and if you think this is weird, check out the Swan and Dolphin Resort at Walt Disney World. Much more over-the-top than the Portland Building could ever have hoped to have been (even the most fanciful of MG's PB designs!)

Yay! Great job. You did such a good job on this one, and amazing work to Riptide, his skills on the statue are amazing.

I have to say that is a remarkabely accurate BAT. Even though I actually don't like the real one in Portland, I say a 10/10 for accuracy and uniqueness

Ah, it finally rendered! I'm gonna plop it into a test city before I say anything more... I just can't make up my mind whether I like it or not... the building, I mean, not the BAT! The BAT is great, and as I said in the thread, I love those night lights.

Well, this certainly is a building that only it's creator could love! Imagine being used to being around this thing! Most Portlanders have quietly accepted it, although they still will grumble about it from time to time. I'm just neutral about it now.

Great job Sparky, you really put some time and effort into this one and it really paid off, in fact I think we need to make a poster of your Portland Region, it so cool it would make a great souveigneer item.

He actually designed a fairly nice buidling in Osaka, but you can't access the information on his site.
