Public Transport in Nieuwezee
dazflint posted a City Journal entry in Nieuwezee - Noord-Holland Polder Town
So, I saw this picture (below) in der Nieuwezee Nieuws, and it inspired me to write about public transport in our town. Don't worry, nobody was badly hurt - and the buses here usually run without crashing into bus-shelters! So, you know that Nieuwezee always had the one old tram-line, running from the Old Town to the Peninsula... then extended to the Harbour in the 60's/70's. And when they built the Oosterpolder, a second tram-line was extended to cover that district. The second line saw brand-new trams introduced to the city. Here's a crowd of spectators trying to board Tram 2 at the Oosterpolderplein on the first day of service: Our new trams are much more comfortable and spacious than the old ones from the 1960's. I'm not sure I like the new red-and-blue colour scheme, though. I think it's supposed to represent the colours of the Dutch flag, or something... There's no denying it though, they're better than our old yellow trams. They were noisy, and draughty... :/ So that's Nieuwezee's trams. Well, we also have a number of bus lines! Some of these are old, traditional routes that have stayed the same since the early 20th century. But the latest routes, have only been added since the Oosterpolder development and the construction of the Biotech Campus across the river: Here's the new campus, and you can see four types of Nieuwezee public transport in one shot. At the top of the image, a Regiorunner 'Verm' double-decker train is heading towards the station in the Old Town. Near the centre, you can see one of the University's yellow mini-buses parked outside the Student Union building... The campus provides its own private 'on demand' transport for students and staff. To the left, you can see a tram approaching the Campus tram stop, which links to Tram Line 1 via a short spur (approx. 750m). And to the top right, you can see a 'bendy bus' pulling away from the stop at Westerhuizen Rotonde. A tree-lined walkway links the bus-stop to the campus. If you're curious, here's a route map which shows how everything hangs together in Nieuwezee: And if that wasn't exciting enough (!), look at this: It's one of our brand-new bi-articulated trolley-buses! The council have been electrifying the bus routes between the Old Town and Oosterpolder, now routes 10 and 11 are (mostly!) run by trolley-buses. They're almost like trams without the tracks. "So why are there tram-tracks in this picture?" you may ask! Well, this is the corner of the Poldergracht where the no.11 bus turns across Tram-line 1. See it on the map? All-in-all I'd say that public transport runs very well in Nieuwezee; with all these modern trams and buses it's better than it ever was, and we have excellent connection to nearby cities like Amsterdam and Hoorn. But now the authorities want to take things 'to the next level'. Oosterpolder has brought new wealth to Nieuwezee, and the Bio-tech Campus is encouraging expansion towards the South-west of town. As a result, the regional government is seriously considering changing our town's status into a City, and real money may be thrown at stages 4-5 of our Strategic Development Plan. This would mean bringing High Speed Rail to the city, and zoning for even more development in future. So, it looks like Nieuwezee's adventures in public transport are only beginning! -

FANTA1990 Presents: Ever wonder who's driving that little green go-cart wandering around the tarmac at your airport? Among all the figures available in the game, a policeman looked best and was chosen to sit behind the wheel. Next, the absence of any baggage behind the baggage cart had to be addressed. So, three simple, yet realistic curtained cars were attached to the rear. The resulting combination fit the bill nicely, so that particular mod was deemed complete. To boost realism even further, another more elaborate option was created from a series of aircraft ground support vehicles extracted from "Emergency 4" (aka "911"). A modern fuel truck ranked most essential and was first to be included. The generic trolley was then replaced with a five car assembly, each having a unique function and appearance complete with intricate detailing. Finally, self-propelled boarding stairs were positioned amongst the other two vehicles completing the trio. Any additional equipment only detracted from the simulated independence of the others. The result is a mobile group of easily recognizable airplane support apparatus. Both options work equally well and are available to suit a variety of individual tastes. Neither require dependencies. Even the most impressive and realistic airports will be incomplete without this one inconspicuous, yet crucial mod. Required: Luggage_AIRx3-Police.dat - Replaces the default luggage cart with a 4-car trolley manned by a policeman. -OR- Emergency4 Airport Vehicles.dat - Replaces the default luggage cart with a mobile group of ground support equipment Optional: Emergency4 Airport Vehicles_7f1038a5.sc4lot - Optionally installs a demonstration lot with props for use in the Lot Editor *** For the latest updates and other spectacular creations by Fanta Soda, visit his homepage on SimCity China at the following URL: http://www.SimCity.cn/thread-99303-1-1.html Fanta has taken considerable measures to make his site accessible to English speaking users. Welcome to Jessoria! Please enjoy your stay here in the borough. May we reccommend a stay at the Grace Hotel on Princess Avenue in our Historic Downtown? Or perhaps an exquisite dinner at the Princess Avenue Steakhouse? Maybe even a nice romantic movie with your sweetheart in our historic downtown Grace Theater? Whatever may be your fancy, at least enjoy your stay in our wonderful borough. History of Jessoria Jessoria was chartered as a borough in 1932. Back then, Princess Avenue was thriving with people going shopping in one of our 300 downtown retail outlets. The historic train station was rumbling with steam passenger trains rolling in from all across the wonderful country of Erodia. The view outside a window of one of the shops was a busy scene with Erodian Railway Company (ERC) Pullman passenger cars rolling by with one of the beautiful steam engines pulling them, and people chatting on the sidewalks loving life as it was. Now, as we continue our tour in the 1930s Jessoria, we must note the premium passenger train which served Jessoria and Barrett. The train was a streamlined K-4, pained Green and White for the Erodian Railway Company's Colors, and it was laid with gold trim and a beautiful nameplate, one which beared the name of Jessie Grace. It was named so after the amazing Queen of Erodia, Jessie Grace. Ironically, the whole borough was named after the queen as well. Now, back to present day Jessoria. Travelling to Jessoria today on the Jessie Grace or "Jessie" as it's called by the locals is still the same as it was back in 1932. Thanks to efforts by the king and queen of Erodia, Jessoria still maintains its pure 1930s tradition. You can still go shopping in the historic downtown shopping district, you can still ride the trolley car as it rolls down princess avenue. That is what is so great about Jessoria! So please, visit Jessoria today, and experience the "Borough of the Queen". Fan Photos Below are some photos ordinary people just like you took when they visited Jessoria. Yes, they did take some photos from the helicopter ride we have available in the borough. Above: The Grace Theater | | Above: View of Jessie Avenue in Jessoria Above: Another view Of Jessie Avenue. The tall building in the lower middle is the Cohrac Company's HQ Building. It is the tallest building in Jessoria. Also, the Jessoria Grand Central Terminal is in the top-middle of the picture, and directly in front of the Terminal is the Jessie Grace University, which is ranked the #1 university in the Nation of Erodia. That is all for now! Enjoy your stay in the borough, and please come again! ~Possibly more pictures to come soon!~
